This paper explores the relationship between surface radiant temperature and fractional vegetation cover derived from satellite imagery to estimate soil surface wetness (triangle method) in Allahabad district. The pixel distributions create triangular shapes because the range of surface radiant temperature decreases as the amount of vegetation cover increases and sufficient number of pixels exists. A very weak correlation is found between the simulated soil surface wetness and ground measured soil moisture at deeper soil layers (R2 < 0.15) on all the dates under investigation. This is because the drying rates at the surface discontinue to be linearly correlated to that at lower levels (depths). The standing water pixels distort the shape of the triangle especially at lower left edge of the triangle. This distortion is removable. The spatial and temporal inhomogeneity of soil surface wetness is examined.展开更多

The antibiotic susceptibility test against the test organisms was performed by Disc Diffusion Method. Results:Lemongrass was found effective against all the test organisms except P. aeruginosa.Gram positive organisms were found more sensitive to lemon grass oil as compared to gram negative organisms. The test organisms were found inhibited by Lemon grass oil at lower concentrations in Broth Dilution Method as compared to Agar Diffusion Method. Conclusions: The tested organisms, particularly gram-negative organisms had shown high resistance towards different antibiotics whereas they were found to be inhibited by lemongrass oil even at lower concentration. Thus lemongrass oil is effective against drug resistant organisms. It can be suggested that use of lemongrass oil would be helpful in the treatment of infections caused by multidrug resistant organisms.展开更多

METHODS: A retrospective analysis was performed for patients undergoing colonoscopy for suspected ileocolonic tuberculosis between January 2000 and June 2004, in whom retrograde ileoscopy had been performed. Only patients diagnosed with tuberculosis on the basis of histological findings of either a caseating granuloma or those having non-caseating granuloma or a collection of epithelioid cells at a minimum of one endoscopic lesion (either in the colon or the terminal ileum) on histology with good responses to conventional anti-tuberculous drugs were enrolled for the study. RESULTS: Fifty-three patients were included. The terminal ileum was involved in only 11 patients. Eight of these patients had involvement of the cecum too. Two patients had ileal lesions without cecal involvement; however, lesions were noted in the ascending colon. In one patient the whole colon was normal and only the terminal ileum showed nodularity and ulceration. Histological examination of the ileal biopsies obtained from the ileal lesions showed noncaseating granulomas in five, collection of epithelioid cells in four and nonspecific histology in two patients. Mucosal biopsies obtained from the lesion in the terminal ileum, in the patient in whom mucosal abnormality was observed to be confined to the ileum, showed noncaseating granulomas. In two other patients the ileal biopsies alone showed histological evidence of tuberculosis with biopsies from the colonic lesions showing non-specific inflammatory changes only. CONCLUSION: Retrograde ileoscopy should be performed in all patients undergoing colonoscopy for suspected ileocolonic tuberculosis. In some patients only the terminal ileum may be involved and histological examination may reveal evidence of tuberculosis only from the lesions in the terminal ileum. This approach would lead to additional lesions being picked up andincreasing the chances of well-timed diagnosis of tuberculosis.展开更多

Bead-on-plate welds were performed on stainless steel plates by automated SAW machine. The experimental data were collected in accordance with the response surface methodology(RSM). In addition to RSM, the regression analysis was performed to set up inputeoutput relationships in the SAW process. It was found that weld parameters define the geometry of weld bead and determine the mechanical properties of the joint. The influence of the input variables on weld bead geometry is represented as graphs. It was found that an increment in voltage increases the bead width but decreases the bead height, whereas the current increment result-in an increment in bead height and no change in bead width. The bead width and height decrease with the increment in the welding speed. With an increment in the nozzle-to-plate distance, bead width decrease, but bead height increases. The value of bead hardness increases with the increment in current but the increment in voltage and travel speed does not have a significant influence on the bead hardness. The predictions from the mathematical model developed and the corresponding experimental results are having a fair agreement. Further, the genetic algorithm(GA) is also used for predicting the weld bead geometry.展开更多

文摘Nanotechnology is a ground-breaking multidisciplinary fi eld across a broad spectrum of basic and applied sciences for producing and applying nano-sized materials for innovative solutions. The use of nanomaterials in industrial applications, medical products, and consumers has increased repeatedly over the last few years, and these applications will likely continue to grow.In an aquatic ecosystem, nanoparticles take entry through a direct route that includes industrial discharge, disposal of wastewater treatment e ffl uents, and indirect runof f from the soil. After reaching the aquatic environment, the nanomaterials are highly af fected by their backdrops and subsequently go through various conversions like agglomeration, aggregation, dissolution, sulfi dation, etc. The fate and the behavior of nanomaterials in the aquatic system not only depend on their physical-chemical properties but also on the pH,temperature, salinity, water hardness, and concentration of natural organic matter present in receiving water. In this review, emphasis has been given to the toxicological properties and potential risks of nanomaterials in terms of factors contributing to their toxicology, bioavailability, and accumulation in aquatic organisms as well as the environment.Furthermore,we summarize the published data on engineered nanoparticles’ef fect on aquatic organisms. The issues related to the accumulation and penetration of nanoparticles in the aquatic organism, their toxic ef fect, and biotransformation along with the food web are also discussed.Since nanomaterials are being increasingly released into aquatic bodies,it is important to pay greater attention to their toxicity and how it af fects the aquatic ecosystem. The nanomaterials are bioavailable to plants, resulting in trophic transfer, and they impact other organisms through biomagnifi cation,as discussed in this review. To close the enormous information gap, extensive research on the interactions and impacts of NPs on dif ferent species belonging to dif ferent trophic levels of the aquatic environment and the destiny of NPs along the food chain of the ecosystem is urgently needed.
文摘The present work aims to demonstrate the capabilities of Laser-induced Breakdown Spectroscopy(LIBS)coupled with a multivariate technique for rapid quantification and classification of old Indian coins made of various alloys.Thirteen old Indian coins in different years of circulation,(1922–1986)were selected for the study. The concentrations were determined by Calibration free LIBS(CF-LIBS)method.The concentration of cuprum(Cu)is negligible, and aluminum(Al)is maximum in the first five coins, and vice-versa in the remaining eight coins. Two different multivariate methods,Principal Component Analysis(PCA)and Soft Independent Modelling of Class Analogy(SIMCA)have been used to classify and identify the coins.PCA classified all thirteen samples into four main alloy categories. The discernment of unknown samples to their probable class membership of alloy was performed using SIMCA.The surface hardness(Brinell hardness number)is linearly correlated with the plasma temperature and LIBS intensity ratios. The sample surface of the first and fifth coin belongs to Al-alloy,having the least surface hardness, and it became harder for Cu–Ni alloy,Ni-brass alloy, and bronze alloy. The hardness of the surface is more for bronze sample twelve. It is also observed that the plasma temperature increases monotonically with the Brinell hardness number. This analysis provides valuable information on fabrication methodology and explains large diversification in the elementary composition of old coins.

文摘Irritable bowel syndrome(IBS)is a chronic functional disorder which alters gastrointestinal(GI)functions, thus leading to compromised health status.Pathophysiology of IBS is not fully understood, whereas abnormal gut brain axis(GBA)has been identified as a major etiological factor.Recent studies are suggestive for visceral hyper-sensitivity,altered gut motility and dysfunctional autonomous nervous system as the main clinical abnormalities in IBS patients.Bidirectional signalling interactions among these abnormalities are derived through various exogenous and endogenous factors, such as microbiota population and diversity, microbial metabolites, dietary uptake, and psychological abnormalities.Strategic efforts focused to study these interactions including probiotics, antibiotics and fecal transplantations in normal and germfree animals are clearly suggestive for the pivotal role of gut microbiota in IBS etiology.Additionally, neurotransmitters act as communication tools between enteric microbiota and brain functions, where serotonin(5-hydroxytryptamine)plays a key role in pathophysiology of IBS.It regulates GI motility, pain sense and inflammatory responses particular to mucosal and brain activity. In the absence of a better understanding of various interconnected crosstalks in GBA,more scientific efforts are required in the search of novel and targeted therapies for the management of IBS.In this review,we have summarized the gut microbial composition, interconnected signalling pathways and their regulators, available therapeutics, and the gaps needed to fill for a better management of IBS.
文摘A dielectric modulation strategy for gate oxide material that enhances the sensing performance of biosensors in junction-less vertical tunnel field effect transistors(TFETs)is reported. The junction-less technique,in which metals with specific work functions are deposited on the source region to modulate the channel conductivity,is used to provide the necessary doping for the proper functioning of the device.TCAD simulation studies of the proposed structure and junction structure have been compared, and showed an enhanced rectification of 10^(4) times. The proposed structure is designed to have a nanocavity of length 10 nm on the left-and right-hand sides of the fixed gate dielectric, which improves the biosensor capture area, and hence the sensitivity.By considering neutral and charged biomolecules with different dielectric constants,TCAD simulation studies were compared for their sensitivities. The off-state current IOFFcan be used as a suitable sensing parameter because it has been observed that the proposed sensor exhibits a significant variation in drain current.Additionally,it has been investigated how positively and negatively charged biomolecules affect the drain current and threshold voltage. To explore the device performance when the nanogaps are fully filled, half filled and unevenly filled, extensive TCAD simulations have been run.The proposed TFET structure is further benchmarked to other structures to show its better sensing capabilities.

文摘ESystems based on EHRs(Electronic health records)have been in use for many years and their amplified realizations have been felt recently. They still have been pioneering collections of massive volumes of health data.Duplicate detections involve discovering records referring to the same practical components, indicating tasks, which are generally dependent on several input parameters that experts yield.Record linkage specifies the issue of finding identical records across various data sources. The similarity existing between two records is characterized based on domain-based similarity functions over different features.De-duplication of one dataset or the linkage of multiple data sets has become a highly significant operation in the data processing stages of different data mining programmes. The objective is to match all the records associated with the same entity.Various measures have been in use for representing the quality and complexity about data linkage algorithms, and many other novel metrics have been introduced. An outline of the problem existing in themeasurement of data linkage and de-duplication quality and complexity is presented. This article focuses on the reprocessing of health data that is horizontally divided among data custodians, with the purpose of custodians giving similar features to sets of patients. The first step in this technique is about an automatic selection of training examples with superior quality from the compared record pairs and the second step involves training the reciprocal neuro-fuzzy inference system(RANFIS)classifier.Using the Optimal Threshold classifier,it is presumed that there is information about the original match status for all compared record pairs(i.e.,Ant Lion Optimization),and therefore an optimal threshold can be computed based on the respective RANFIS.Febrl,Clinical Decision(CD),and Cork Open Research Archive(CORA)data repository help analyze the proposed method with evaluated benchmarks with current techniques.

文摘Objective:To find the effectiveness of essential oil of lemongrass for the treatment of pathogenic organisms. Methods:Lemongrass oil was investigated for activity against Staphylococcus aureus (S.aureus),Bacillus cereus(B.cereus),Bacillus subtilis(B.subtilis),Escherichia coli(E.coli), Klebsiella pneumoniae(K.pneumoniae) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa(P.aeruginosa),using Agar Diffusion Method and Broth Dilution Method.Minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration(MBC) were determined by the Broth Dilution Method. It can be suggested that use of lemongrass oil would be helpful in the treatment of infections caused by multidrug resistant organisms.
文摘AIM: To study the role of retrograde terminal ileoscopy in patients suspected to have ileocolonic tuberculosis. This approach would lead to additional lesions being picked up andincreasing the chances of well-timed diagnosis of tuberculosis.

文摘Baicalin is a natural bioactive compound derived from Scutellaria baicalensis, which is extensively used in traditional Chinese medicine.A literature survey demonstrated the broad spectrum of health benefits of baicalin such as antioxidant,anticancer,anti-inflammatory,antimicrobial,cardio-protective,hepatoprotective,renal protective, and neuroprotective properties.Baicalin is hydrolyzed to its metabolite baicalein by the action of gut microbiota, which is further reconverted to baicalin via phase 2 metabolism in the liver. Many studies have suggested that baicalin exhibits therapeutic potential against several types of hepatic disorders including hepatic fibrosis,xenobiotic-induced liver injury, fatty liver disease, viral hepatitis, cholestasis, ulcerative colitis, hepatocellular and colorectal cancer.During in vitro and in vivo examinations,it has been observed that baicalin showed a protective role against liver and gut-associated abnormalities by modifying several signaling pathways such as nuclear factor-kappa B,transforming growth factor beta 1/SMAD3,sirtuin 1,p38/mitogen-activated protein kinase/Janus kinase, and calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase kinaseβ/adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase/acetyl-coenzyme A carboxylase pathways.Furthermore, baicalin also regulates the expression of fibrotic genes such as smooth muscle actin, connective tissue growth factor,β-catenin,and inflammatory cytokines such as interferon gamma,interleukin-6(IL-6),tumor necrosis factor-alpha,and IL-1β,and attenuates the production of apoptotic proteins such as caspase-3,caspase-9 and B-cell lymphoma 2.However,due to its low solubility and poor bioavailability, widespread therapeutic applications of baicalin still remain a challenge. This review summarized the hepatic and gastrointestinal protective attributes of baicalin with an emphasis on the molecular mechanisms that regulate the interaction of baicalin with the gut microbiota.

文摘The weld quality is significantly affected by the weld parameters(arc voltage, welding current, nozzle to plate distance and welding speed) in the submerged arc welding(SAW). Further, the genetic algorithm(GA) is also used for predicting the weld bead geometry.
文摘Objective:To evaluate the antihyperglycemic activity of leaves of Hyptis suaveolens using streptozotocin model.Mothods:Hyptis suaveolens extract(HSE) 250 and 500 mg/kg body weight was administered orally to streptozotocin induced diabetes, once daily for 21 days. Results:A significant reduction in blood glucose was observed in diabetic animals treated with HSE at different doses when compared with diabetic rats.Levels of triglyceride, total cholesterol, low density lipoprolein.very low density lipoprotein were decreased while administering HSE at different doses, compared with their control values in diabetic animals. Conclusions:Our results show that HSE possesses significant antihyperglycemic activity which might be attributed to stimulating effects on glucose utilization and antioxidant enzyme.
