Since the onset of the constitution 2010,the Kenyan community has put more weight on women empowerment. The emphasis is more on the girl child compared to the boy child. There are several steps that have been taken to uplift the status of the girl child;these include the creation of a special position in parliament just to deal with women matters.Apart from these there has been deliberate efforts put in place to bring women at per with their male counterparts by putting in place the one third gender. These efforts though laudable requires political good will. However, there is emerging a new phenomenon that seems to pose a challenge to these political-constitutional efforts. This is,the perception of religion and the equation of human equality. In this paper,I try to trace the female participation in the religious and political engagements in Kenya upto 2010. 展开更多

Politics is essentially about who gets what, when, and how.It involves realization of power relations and activities for impartial welfare of a populace. The varied human appeals invariably demand that politicians or institution advocate for means that meet physical and related needs of the public.Science is distinctly about experiential truths and how these truths distress human lives. It is broadly an intellectual activity about the systematic study of the structure and behavior of the corporeal and the natural world through observation and experiment leading to uncovering germane truths. The correlation between the dual disciplines is consequently symbiotic and relates to the welfare of the populace. This relationship is deepened in times of calamities as well as in times of natural disasters like medical tragedies, famine, draught, and social obliteration. While politics seeks to ameliorate such crisis by seeking short-term remedies for partisan contentment or as long as politicians have power, science demands caution and empirical truths regarding the causes for such misfortunes and proposes scientific solutions to the crisis. These scientific veracities are timeless, meant to provide remedies to such emerging calamities. The contemporary case of COVID-19 has validated how these two fields have either complemented or controverted each other occasioning weighty apprehensions regarding human lives around the globe. This paper is descriptive in nature and seeks to isolate the global lessons learnt since COVID-19 as politics encounters science. It has relied on obtainable and emerging literature regarding the subject. 展开更多

The Kenya Ministry of Health restructured the health sector in 2009 with the goal of promoting and improving the health status of all citizens. It established the Hospital Management Services Fund to be managed at the facility level by the Hospital Management Committees (HMCs). Since the establishment of the HMCs at the county level following the devolution of health services in 2016, no evaluation has been done to assess their performance in Busia County. We assessed the criteria, selection process, orientation, induction, and the performance of the HMCs in Busia and considered their implications for Kenya and similar contexts in Africa. Data were collected by purposive sampling of all HMC members in six level 4 and one level 5 hospitals through Focus Group Discussions and key informant interviews. Documents collected both at the facility and county levels were analysed and used appropriately. All seven hospitals evaluated did not fully comply with the National Guidelines. Three (43%) of the hospitals nominated persons with educational levels below the required O-level certification. Another 3 (43%) contravened the Constitution of Kenya (2010) by excluding persons with disabilities and minorities. The study identified systemic commissions and omissions in the recruitment process, leading to anxiety and frustrations by members of HMCs, staff and the catchment population of the respective hospitals. In conclusion, the nominated HMC members have no legitimacy to assume their roles and responsibilities as they have not been gazetted, appointed, oriented, and facilitated. 展开更多
