The existence of joints or other kinds of discontinuities has a dramatic efect on the stability of rock excavations and engineering.As a result,a great challenge in rock mass mechanics testing is to prepare rock or ro...The existence of joints or other kinds of discontinuities has a dramatic efect on the stability of rock excavations and engineering.As a result,a great challenge in rock mass mechanics testing is to prepare rock or rock-like samples with defects.In recent years,3D printing technology has become a promising tool in the feld of rock mass mechanics and engineering.This study frst reviews and discusses the research status of traditional test methods in rock mass mechanics tests of making rock samples with defects.Then,based on the comprehensive analysis of previous research,the application of 3D printing technology in rock mass mechanics is expounded from the following three aspects.The frst is the printing material.Although there are many materials for 3D printing,it has been found that 3D printing materials that can be used for rock mass mechanics research are very limited.After research,we summarize and evaluate printing material that can be used for rock mass mechanics studies.The second is the printing methodology,which mainly introduces the current application forms of 3D printing technology in rock mass mechanics.This includes printed precise casting molds and one-time printed samples.The last one is the printing model,which includes small-scale samples for mechanical tests and large-scale physical models.Then,the benefts and drawbacks of using 3D printing samples in mechanical tests and the validity of their simulation of real rock are discussed.Compared with traditional rock samples collected in nature or synthetic rock-like samples,the samples made by 3D printing technology have unique advantages,such as higher test repeatability,visualization of rock internal structure and stress distribution.There is thus great potential for the use of 3D printing in the feld of rock mass mechanics.However,3D printing materials also have shortcomings,such as insufcient material strength and accuracy at this stage.Finally,the application prospect of 3D printing technology in rock mass mechanics research is proposed.展开更多

Tip vortex cavitation is the first type of cavita- tion to take place around most marine propellers. But the numerical prediction of tip vortex cavitation is one of the challenges for propeller wake because of turbule...Tip vortex cavitation is the first type of cavita- tion to take place around most marine propellers. But the numerical prediction of tip vortex cavitation is one of the challenges for propeller wake because of turbulence dis- sipation during the numerical simulation. Several parame- ters of computational mesh and numerical algorithm are tested by mean of the predicted length of tip vortex cav- tiation to validate a developed method. The predicted length of tip vortex cavtiation is on the increase about 0.4 propeller diameters using the developed numerical method. The predicted length of tip vortex cavtiation by RNG k - e model is about 3 times of that by SST k - ~o model. Therefore, based on the validation of the present approach, the cavitating flows generated by two rotating propellers under a non-uniform inflow are calculated further. The distributions of axial velocity, total pressure and vapor volume fraction in the transversal planes across tip vortex region are shown to be useful in analyzing the feature of the cavitating flow. The strongest kemel of tip vortex cavitation is not at the position most close to blade tip but slightly far away from the region. During the growth of tip vortex cavitation extension, it appears short and thick, and then it becomes long and thin. The pressure fluctuations at the positions inside tip vortex region also validates the conclusion. A key finding of the study is that the grids constructed especially for tip vortex flows by usingseparated computational domain is capable of decreasing the turbulence dissipation and correctly capturing the fea- ture of propeller tip vortex cavitation under uniform and non-uniform inflows. The turbulence model and advanced grids is important to predict tip vortex cavitation.展开更多

The results of a detailed investigation ...Semiconductor CdS nanoparticles were synthesized by the sonochemical reduction of a mixed aqueous solution of CdCl2, Na2S2O3 and (CH3)CHOH in Ar atmosphere at room temperature. The results of a detailed investigation with X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectrum and optical absorption spec-troscopy are reported. A clearly red shift of the absorption edge and a broad absorption band related to the surface states of nanoparticles have been observed in the optical absorption spectra with the increasing of CdS particle size. The mechanisms of the CdS nanoparticle formation and size growth during sonochemical irradiation were discussed. This convenient method is found to be an efficient way to produce other chalcogenides as well.展开更多

Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) was used to identify Lhe structure of the polymeric dye, indicating an obvious carbonyl stretching absorption in disperse blue 14. Because nearby construction has harmful effects,precisely predicting blast-induced ground vibration is critical.In this paper,a hybrid artificial bee colony(ABC)and support vector machine(SVM)model was proposed for pr...Because nearby construction has harmful effects,precisely predicting blast-induced ground vibration is critical.In this paper,a hybrid artificial bee colony(ABC)and support vector machine(SVM)model was proposed for predicting the value of peak particle velocity(PPV),which is used to describe blast-induced ground vibration.To construct the model,5 potentially relevant factors,including controllable and uncontrollable parameters,were considered as input parameters,and PPV was set as the output parameter.Forty-five samples were recorded from the Hongling lead-zinc mine.An ABC-SVM model was developed and trained on 35 samples via 5-fold cross-validation(CV).A testing set(10 samples)was used to evaluate the prediction performance of the ABC-SVM model.SVM and four empirical models(United States Bureau of Mines(USBM),Amraseys-Hendron(A-H),Langefors-Kihstrom(L-K),and Central Mining Research Institute(CMRI))also were introduced for comparison.Next,the performances of the models were analyzed by using 3 statistical parameters:the correlation coefficient(R2),root-mean-square error(RMSE),and variance accounted for(VAF).ABC-SVM had the highest R2 and VAF values followed by the SVM,A-H,USBM,CMRI,and L-K methods.The results demonstrated that ABC-SVM outperformed SVM and the empirical predictors for predicting PPV.Moreover,the best results from the R2,RMSE,and VAF indices were 0.9628,0.2737,and 96.05%for the ABC-SVM model.The sensitivities of the parameters also were investigated,and the height difference between the blast point and the monitoring station was found to be the parameter that had the most influence on PPV.展开更多

An effective method is presented to determine the correct surface current, i.e., the correct surface current, i.e., the correct surface current is composed of the non-resonant mode current and the normalized resonant mode current multiplied by an unknown complex factor. The unknown complex factor can be obtained by employing the condition that the total field inside the conducting closed body must be zero at specified interior points. A numerical example is given for an infinitely long and perfectly conducting circular cylinder at the interior resonance, and the calculated surface currents are in good agreement with the analytical ones. The validity and accuracy of the presented method is thus verified.展开更多

Addition of POSS significantly increases the Tg of polyvinylpyrrolidone at a fair high POSS content and obtained high molecular weight polymers with very narrow molecular distribution.
