Transferrin is a single monomeric glycoprotein of molecular weight of 80 kDa that transports iron involved in many metabolic processes amongst the sites of absorption, storage and utilization, hence considered as the major iron binding protein in the plasma of vertebrate species. In this study, transferrin structure, synthesis, receptor and the mechanism of cellular uptake of iron from transferrin have been reviewed.Besides, the major biological functions of transferrin and the different forms of it(polymorphisms)have been indicated. 展开更多
