Stachyose is a prebiotic that traditionally extracted from plants,such as vegetable.It has been demonstrated to alleviate intestinal inflammation by regulating gut microbiota,but the mechanism has been unclear.This research aims to detect the potential mechanism of stachyose in alleviating the severity of ulcerative colitis(UC).The results indicated that the administration of stachyose could recover the body weight,protect against the colonic tissue damage,reduce the pro-inflammatory cytokines levels,and reverse the histological abnormalities in UC mice.Oral stachyose could restore dextran sulfate sodium(DSS)-induced disturbance in intestinal bacteria.Besides,the metabolome result of serum samples showed that stachyose treatment significantly altered serum metabolites against inflammatory responses in colitis mice.Also,a significant correlation can be found between 23 metabolite biomarkers and 18 differential genera.Our results provided a strong foundation for the future study of the protective role of stachyose in maintaining intestinal homeostasis. 展开更多

Lipid metabolism disorders commonly occur during menopause.Estrogen deficiency has been shown to lead to excessive energy intake and abnormal lipid metabolism in ovariectomized rats,resulting in obesity.Probiotics exhibit anti-obesity properties,and their underlying mechanism has been widely reported.In this study,we demonstrated the metabolic benefits of Lactobacillus plantarum CCFM1180 in suppressing appetite,controlling body weight,correcting obesity-induced abnormalities,enhancing liver lipid metabolism,and protecting liver function in estrogen-deficient rats.The mechanisms associated with the anti-obesity and anti-dyslipidemia effects of CCFM1180 on estrogen-deficient rats were clarified.The results showed that CCFM1180 dramatically reduced food intake by activating the expression of estrogen receptor alpha(ERα)and increasing the level of leptin in abdominal adipose tissue.These changes,combined with the increased butyrate concentration and recovered bile acid structure,helped enhance lipid metabolism.Additionally,CCFM1180 treatment was found to be safer than exogenous estrogen supplementation.Thus,L.plantarum CCFM1180 could be considered a new therapeutic strategy for preventing and alleviating menopausal lipid abnormalities. 展开更多

Photoprotection effect of the hyaluronic acid and ectoine composition was studied by evaluated its effects on inhibiting oxidative stress and MMP-1 production,ROS scavenging ability and promoting collagen synthesis in skin cells under blue light irradiation.The result show that the composition is non-toxic to keratinocytes within a concentration of 5%.And the sample can significantly inhibit the increase of reactive oxygen species(ROS)caused by blue light irradiation at a concentration of 2%,and can also repaire the damaged skin by scavenge oxygen free radicals.At the same time,the composition can inhibit the increase of MMP-1 caused by blue light irradiation,so as to have the effect of inhibiting the decomposition of collagen and promoting the secretion of Collagen I. 展开更多

N-Acetylneuraminic acid(Neu5Ac),the most common type of Sia,generally acts as the terminal sugar in cell surface glycans,glycoconjugates,oligosaccharides,lipo-oligosaccharides,and polysaccharides,thus exerting numerous physiological functions.The extensive applications of Neu5Ac in the food,cosmetic,and pharmaceutical industries make large-scale production of this chemical desirable.Biosynthesis which is associated with important application potential and environmental friendliness has become an indispensable approach for large-scale synthesis of Neu5Ac.In this review,the physiological roles of Neu5Ac was first summarized in detail.Second,the safety evaluation,regulatory status,and applications of Neu5Ac were discussed.Third,enzyme-catalyzed preparation,whole-cell biocatalysis,and microbial de novo synthesis of Neu5Ac were comprehensively reviewed.In addition,we discussed the main challenges of Neu5Ac de novo biosynthesis,such as screening and engineering of key enzymes,identifying exporters of intermediates and Neu5Ac,and balancing cell growth and biosynthesis.The corresponding strategies and systematic strategies were proposed to overcome these challenges and facilitate Neu5Ac industrial-scale production. 展开更多
