Very good 3-D computer models of the human body are now available and used routinely in anatomy instruction. These techniques are subsumed under the heading “virtual anatomy” to distinguish them from the conventional study of anatomy entailing cadavers and anatomy textbooks. Moreover, other imaging procedures (X-ray, angiography, CT and MR) are also used in virtual anatomy instruction. A recently introduced three-dimensional post-processing technique named Cinematic Rendering now makes it possible to use the output of routine CT and MR examinations as the basis for highly photo-realistic 3-D depictions of human anatomy. We have installed Cinematic Rendering (enabled for stereoscopy) in a high-definition 8K 3-D projection space that accommodates an audience of 150. The space’s projection surface measures 16 × 9 meters;images can be projected on both the front wall and the floor. A game controller can be used to operate Cinematic Rendering software so that it can generate interactive real-time depictions of human anatomy on the basis of CT and MR data sets. This prototype installation was implemented without technical problems;in day-to-day, real-world use over a period of 22 months, there were no impairments of service due to software crashes or other technical problems. We are already employing this installation routinely for educational offerings open to the public, courses for students in the health professions, and (continuing) professional education units for medical interns, residents and specialists—in, so to speak, the dissecting theater of the future.展开更多

Our approach introduces three new aspects for three-dimensional surface tracking in radiotherapy treatment. The first aspect is a new algorithm for noise reduction of depth values. Ueda’s algorithm was implemented and enabling a fast least square regression of depth values. The second aspect is an application for detection of patient’s motion at multiple points in thracoabdominal regions. The third aspect is an estimation of three-dimensional surface from multiple depth values. For evaluation of noise reduction by Ueda’s algorithm, two respiratory patterns are measured by the Kinect as well as a laser range meter. The resulting cross correlation coefficients between the laser range meter and the Kinect were 0.982 for abdominal respiration and 0.995 for breath holding. Moreover, the mean cross correlation coefficients between the signals of our system and the signals of Anzai with respect to participant’s respiratory motion were 0.90 for thoracic respiration and 0.93 for abdominal respiration, respectively. These results proved that the performance of the developed system was comparable to existing motion monitoring devices. Reconstruction of three-dimensional surface also enabled us to detect the irregular motion and breathing arrest by comparing the averaged depth with predefined threshold values.展开更多

Type 1 AIP seems to be the pancreatic manifestation of an IgG4-related systemic disease, characterized by elevated IgG4 serum levels, infiltration of IgG4-positive plasma cells and extrapancreatic lesions. When manifesting as a focal disease in the pancreas, it can be challenging to differentiate it from pancreatic cancer (PC). Because AIP is typically responsive to steroid therapy without the need for resection, differentiation between these two diseases is critical. We report the case of a 56-year-old man with initial suspect of PC, and final diagnosis of type 1 AIP according to the International Consensus Diagnostic Criteria (ICDC) without elevated levels of serum IgG4 or need for a histology sample. We take a review of literature in order to improve the diagnostic accuracy of AIP and describe clinical and imaging features to differentiate it from PC and avoid unnecessary surgery due to misdiagnosis.展开更多

Many variations in its origin and course have been observed;however, as far as we know, the association of true aneurysm of the PMA and its anomalous origin from the internal carotid artery has not been reported previously. We reported the case of a 59-year-old woman who suddenly presented a loss of consciousness without head trauma, computed tomography (CT) revelated intracerebellous hematoma associated with a subarachnoid hemorrhage of the posterior cerebral fossa. Cerebral angiography demonstrated a true aneurysm of the PMA which originated from the internal carotid artery.展开更多

In this paper, we proposed an automatic anomaly detection method using singular value decomposition analysis. Before applying this method, the investigator needs a normal respiratory motion data of a patient. From these data, a trajectory matrix representing normal time-series feature is created. Decomposing the matrix, we obtained the feature of normal time series. Then, we applied the same procedure to real-time data and obtained real-time features. Calculating the similarity of those feature matrixes, an anomaly score was obtained. Patient motion was observed by a depth camera. In our simulation, two types of motion e.g. cough and sudden stop of breathing were successfully detected, while gradual change of respiratory cycle frequency was not detected clearly.展开更多

Since then, several epidemics have been documented in Asia, the Caribbean, South America and Africa. The authors report two cases of dengue fever in children aged six (6) and twelve (12) years respectively. The diagnosis of several dengue pulmonary was retained in these children, clinico-radiological and biological arguments. In addition to the hemorrhagic syndrome, the pulmonary symptomatology associated cough, dyspnea. Chest X-ray revealed bilateral and extensive alveolar interstitial radiological lesions. From a biological point of view, the positivity of dengue-specific IgM has confirmed arboviruses. From the diagnostic peculiarities of the cases observed, the authors suggest the search for factors associated with a primary dengue infection from several onsets to pulmonary manifestation in children. Indeed, this fringe of the population is no longer concerned with acute respiratory infections. In addition, the socio-cultural context of poverty, of pre-hospital therapeutic itinerary favoring traditional medicine, delays hospital care.展开更多
