Coal is the dominant energy source in China,and coal-fired power accounts for about half of coal consumption.However,air pollutant emissions from coal-fired power plants cause severe ecological and environmental problems.This paper focuses on near-zero emission technologies and applications for clean coal-fired power.The long-term operation states of near-zero emission units were evaluated,and synergistic and special mercury(Hg)control technologies were researched.The results show that the principle technical route of near-zero emission,which was applied to 101 of China’s coal-fired units,has good adaptability to coal properties.The emission concentrations of particulate matter(PM),SO2,and NOx were below the emission limits of gas-fired power plants and the compliance rates of the hourly average emission concentrations reaching near-zero emission in long-term operation exceeded 99%.With the application of near-zero emission technologies,the generating costs increased by about 0.01 CNY∙(kW∙h)-1.However,the total emissions of air pollutants decreased by about 90%,resulting in effective improvement of the ambient air quality.Furthermore,while the Hg emission concentrations of the near-zero emission units ranged from 0.51 to 2.89μg∙m^-3,after the modified fly ash(MFA)special Hg removal system was applied,Hg emission concentration reached as low as 0.29μg∙m^-3.The operating cost of this system was only 10%-15%of the cost of mainstream Hg removal technology using activated carbon injection.Based on experimental studies carried out in a 50000 m^3∙h^-1 coal-fired flue gas pollutant control pilot platform,the interaction relationships of multi-pollutant removal were obtained and solutions were developed for emissions reaching different limits.A combined demonstration application for clean coal-fired power,with the new“1123”eco-friendly emission limits of 1,10,20 mg∙m^-3,and 3μg∙m^-3,respectively,for PM,SO2,NOx,and Hg from near-zero emission coal-fired power were put forward and realized,providing engineering and technical support for the national enhanced pollution emission standards. 展开更多

Ultra-thick steep coal seam mining will inevitably lead to the increase of greater and violent ground subsidence and deformation.A subsidence control method by inversely-inclined slicing and upward mining is proposed in this paper.By this method,the sequence of collapse of overlying strata and the direction of propagation of strata movement are changed,the extent of roof-side deformation thereby is lessened,and boundary angle of roof-side subsidence is reduced by 5°-10°.The mechanism of this mining method for control of strata movement has been evidenced by numerical simulation and experiments with similarity materials.A subsidence prediction model based on the variation of mining influence propagation angle can be used to evaluate the surface movement and deformation of the mining method.The application of the method in No.3 Mine in Yaojie mining area has yielded the expected result. 展开更多

At present, methanol to propylene(MTP) technology developed by Lurgi Company is adopted for commercial plants and refined methanol with the purity ≥99.85 wt% is required as the feed of MTP unit in Lurgi's technology.Therefore, high energy cost for refined methanol production is one of the bottlenecks to improve the economy of MTP technology. Reducing the grade of feed refined methanol may be an effective method to save energy and reduce operation costs in MTP process. In this work, experiments and process simulation were carried out to investigate the influence and feasibility of degrading the methanol feed. Experiments were conducted to investigate the influence of crude methanol feed on conversion and selectivity of MTP reaction as well as the performance of ZSM-5 catalyst. The experimental results showed that degrading the methanol feed had no obvious influence on the conversion and selectivity of MTP reactions and the catalyst deactivation was caused by the carbon accumulation and metals deposition on the active sites. The process simulation results showed that the influence on the conversion and selectivity as well as the stream load of MTP process was negligible if 98 mol% methanol was used as feed. Finally, industrial experiments were conducted by adjusting the operation parameters to degrade of feed methanol of the commercial 500 kt·a^(-1) MTP unit of Ningmei Group in China. The results of industrial application illustrated that annually 180 kt fuel coal and 150 kt desalted water as well as 1770 MW·h^(-1) electricity would be saved when the water content increased from 0.01% to 0.4%. This work has identified the feasibility to improve MTP technology by degrading the methanol feed. 展开更多

Accurate photovoltaic(PV)power prediction can effectively help the power sector to make rational energy planning and dispatching decisions,promote PV consumption,make full use of renewable energy and alleviate energy problems.To address this research objective,this paper proposes a prediction model based on kernel principal component analysis(KPCA),modified cuckoo search algorithm(MCS)and deep convolutional neural networks(DCNN).Firstly,KPCA is utilized to reduce the dimension of the feature,which aims to reduce the redundant input vectors.Then using MCS to optimize the parameters of DCNN.Finally,the photovoltaic power forecasting method of KPCA-MCS-DCNN is established.In order to verify the prediction performance of the proposed model,this paper selects a photovoltaic power station in China for example analysis.The results show that the new hybrid KPCA-MCS-DCNN model has higher prediction accuracy and better robustness. 展开更多

Experimental study on the membrane distillation of highly mineralized mine water

Membrane distillation(MD)is a promising membrane separation technique used to treat industrial wastewater.When coupled with cheap heat sources,MD has significant economic advantages.Therefore,MD can be combined with solar energy to realize the large-scale and low-cost treatment of highly mineralized mine water in the western coalproducing region of China.In this study,highly mineralized mine water from the Ningdong area of China was subjected to vacuum MD(VMD)using polyvinylidene fluoride hollow-fiber membranes.The optimal operation parameters of VMD were determined by response surface optimization.Subsequently,the feasibility of VMD for treating highly mineralized mine water was explored.The fouling behavior observed during VMD was further investigated by scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(SEM-EDS).Under the optimal parameters(pressure=-0.08 MPa,temperature=70℃,and feed flow rate=1.5 L/min),the maximum membrane flux was 8.85 kg/(m^(2) h),and the desalination rate was 99.7%.Membrane fouling could be divided into three stages:membrane wetting,crystallization,and fouling layer formation.Physical cleaning restored the flux and salt rejection rate to 94%and 97%of the initial values,respectively;however,the cleaning interval and cleaning efficiency decreased as the VMD run time increased.SEM-EDS analysis revealed that the reduction in flux was caused by the precipitation of CaCO_(3).The findings also demonstrated that the membrane wetting could be attributed to the formation of NaCl on the cross section and outer surface of the membrane.Overall,the results confirm the feasibility of MD for treating mine water and provide meaningful guidance for the industrial application of MD. 展开更多

The Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation(APEC)comprises of the world’s largest producers and consumers of energy,accounting for 60.3%of primary energy supply,50.0%of final energy consumption,and 63.0%of electricity generation worldwide in 2016.This study discusses the primary energy supply and final energy consumption situation of the APEC and analyzes the characteristics of electricity in terms of its generation structure based on fuel,consumption by the end-use sector,access to electricity,and so on.The renewable energy and electricity generation projections up to 2030 based on trends in the APEC are also assessed.It is seen that electricity in final energy consumption has been on an upward trend,with an average annual growth rate of about 4.8%during 2006–2016,in 2016,its share reached 24.3%.The industry sector consumes the largest share of electricity,accounting for about 45.5%in 2016.Coal supply and consumption peaked in 2011 and then began to decline,while renewable energy has been on an upward trend,with its primary energy supply share increasing from 4.80%in 2010 to 6.29%in 2016.Solar photovoltaic and onshore wind power are on the verge of costing less than the operating cost of existing coal-fired plants in 2018.In the APEC’s target scenario in which renewable energy is doubled,the predicted net growth from 2017 to 2030 of solar,wind,and hydro power is about 963,497,and 157 GW,respectively,and to reach this target,the APEC economies need to accelerate renewable energy development. 展开更多

China’s fossil energy is characterized by an abundance of coal and a relative lack of oil and natural gas.Developing a strategy in which coal can replace oil and natural gas is,therefore,a necessary and practical approach to easing the excessive external dependence on oil and natural gas.Based on the perspective of energy security,this paper proposes a technical framework for defining the substitution of oil and natural gas with coal in China.In this framework,three substitution classifications and 11 industrialized technical routes are reviewed.Then,three scenarios(namely,the cautious scenario,baseline scenario,and positive scenario)are developed to estimate the potential of this strategy for 2020 and 2030.The results indicate that oil and natural gas replaced by coal will reach 67 to 81 Mt and 8.7 to 14.3 Gm^3 in 2020 and reach 93 to 138 Mt and 32.3 to 47.3 Gm^3 in 2030,respectively.By implementing this strategy,China’s external dependence on oil,natural gas,and primary energy is expected to be curbed at approximately 70%,40%,and 20%by 2030,respectively.This paper also demonstrates how coal,as a substitute for oil and natural gas,can contribute to carbon and pollution reduction and economic cost savings.It suggests a new direction for the development of the global coal industry and provides a crucial reference for energy transformation in China and other countries with similar energy situations. 展开更多

This study focuses on the emission characteristics of NO_(x)under oxy-fuel combustion conditions.A comparative analysis with air combustion was performed.NO_(x)emission,control measures and influence factors under different working conditions were studied.Experiments were carried out on a 3-MWth test platform and a laboratory platform.The‘π’-type furnace was adopted,with the fur-nace width of 2.6 m,depth of 2.0 m and height of 10.5 m for the 3-MWth coal-fired boiler.NO_(x)emissions at different oxygen concen-trations and different air distribution were investigated;the effects of H2O and CO_(2)concentration on denitrification efficiency and SO_(2)/SO_(3)conversion rate were explored.Experiment results suggest that,compared with air combustion,NO concentration(volume basis)at the furnace outlet under oxy-fuel combustion is higher than that of air combustion,but the amount of NO_(x)emissions in the discharged gas significantly decrease compared to the air combustion conditions.In addition,the formation of NO_(x)can be effectively controlled through staged combustion.Furthermore,the selective catalytic reduction(SCR)denitrification efficiency and the con-version rate of SO_(2)to SO_(3)decreases when the CO_(2)concentration and the H2O content increase,indicating that CO_(2)and H2O have an adverse effect on the performance of the catalyst.Additionally,compared with CO_(2)concentration,H2O content has a greater effect on catalyst performance. 展开更多

This article introduces a portable wind turbine condition monitoring system(CMS)and its applications in wind turbine drivetrain damage detection.The portable CMS based on vibration detection and analysis has a long application history in conventional rotating machineries,but it is not widely used in wind turbines.There are several reasons why it is not used,including the labor-and knowledge-intensive requirements for test setup and result interpretation.There are also reasons specific to wind turbines,such as the structural diversity of drivetrains,the uncertainty of operational conditions,and the complexity of the damage mechanism of different parts that make the conventional vibration-based CMS inefficient and not cost-effective.All these factors affect the wide application of the portable system.The portable wind turbine CMS discussed in this article is integrated using advanced vibration measurement and analysis methodology.Fault detection for the acquired acceleration response and high-speed shaft speed signal is carried out by a suite of data analysis techniques specifically designed for a wind turbine gearbox.Using these techniques,damage detection accuracy for all the components inside a gearbox is improved significantly,especially for those related to medium-and low-speed shafts.The new data processing techniques also are briefly described with the developed methodologies verified by three wind turbines with typical low-speed shaft-related component damages.These damage assessments include the low-and medium-speed planetary stage ring gear,the low-speed planetary stage planet gear and damage to the main bearing. 展开更多

This paper investigates the effect of environmental policy on income inequality.It focuses on the central environmental protection inspection led by the central government in China.Using a diference-in-diferences approach,it finds evidence that environmental regulation decreased the per capita income and enlarged the gap between urban and rural income while showing an insignificant effect on employment.Although the policy can reduce pollution levels and bring environmental benefits in aggregate,the findings of this study suggest that the regulations appear to have reduced the proportion of manufacturing industry and hindered general innovation and investment from entrepreneurs,which resulted in greater inequality.Rural residents suffered more from environmental regulation due to relatively high migration costs and their disadvantaged human resources on the aspects of health,education level,and skills.The local government's execution incentive can also play a key role in the effectiveness of environmental policy.Regions with lower GDP growth targets and younger government leaders were affected significantly with regard to the income growth of local residents and the urban-rural income gap. 展开更多
