It is found that the effect of core polarization on the magnetic moments is suppressed by A tensor coupling. The A tensor potential reduces the spin-orbit splitting of pA states considerably. However, almost the same magnetic moments are obtained using the hyperon wavefunction obtained via the Dirac equation either with or without the A tensor potential in the electromagnetic current vertex. The deviations of magnetic moments for PA states from the Schmidt values are found to increase with nuclear mass number.展开更多

Compared with other industries, the most obvious advantage and benefit of RFI are not only economic incentives but environmental sustainability. Due to the increase in governmental income and global economic recession, RFI became an important way to broaden profit base for many governments. Recently, the successful RFI development in Taiwan is well-known. This research discussed the situation and main advantages of RFI, and mainly reviews RFI development/communicative strategies in Taiwan as a case study. Using F2 population derived from the cross of tall inbred 7922 by dwarf inbred 5003, an RFLP linkage map of maize has been constructed, on which 85 markers are distributed among 10 linkage groups and span maize genome...Using F2 population derived from the cross of tall inbred 7922 by dwarf inbred 5003, an RFLP linkage map of maize has been constructed, on which 85 markers are distributed among 10 linkage groups and span maize genome about 1827.8 cM with an average distance (24.4 cM) between markers. 106 F2:3 lines of the population were grown in a 10×11 simple rectangular lattice design of one-raw plots with two replications and evaluated for plant height (PH). With interval mapping procedure, 5 QTLs controlling plant height have been identified and their genetic effects and gene action determined. 2 major OTLs with opposite effect have been discovered. One for increasing plant height is ph 1 which is located at chromosome 2 and accounts for 51.8% of the total phenotypic variation; the other for decreasing plant height is ph3 which is located at chromosome 5 and accounts for 38.6% of the total phenotypic variation. Superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity in the leaves of transgenic tobacco plants with betaine aldehyde dehydrogenase (BADH) gene was about 36% higher than that in the control plants (parent plants), activities of per-ox...Superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity in the leaves of transgenic tobacco plants with betaine aldehyde dehydrogenase (BADH) gene was about 36% higher than that in the control plants (parent plants), activities of per-oxidase (POD) and catalase (Cat) increased by about 62% and 88% respectively. Activities of ascorbate peroxidase (AsSPOD), dehydroascorbate redutase (DAsAR) and glu-tathione reductase (GR) in ascorbate-glutothion pathway located at chloroplasts increased by 67.7%, 47.9% and 38.8% respectively. These results indicated that the H2O2 produced by SOD catalyzing superoxide anion radicals (O2-) could be fully decomposed, and could not derive to form the strongest toxicant radicals · OH. This is the first report to elucidate quantitatively that the activities of two kinds of antioxidative enzymes decomposed radicals and active oxygen were matched. Trypanosoma evansi is the causative agent of the animal trypanosomiasis surra, a disease with serious economic burden worldwide. The availability of the genome of its closely related parasite Trypanosoma brucei allows...Trypanosoma evansi is the causative agent of the animal trypanosomiasis surra, a disease with serious economic burden worldwide. The availability of the genome of its closely related parasite Trypanosoma brucei allows us to compare their genetic and evolutionarily shared and distinct biological features. The complete genomic sequence of the T. evansi YNB strain was obtained using a combination of genomic and transcriptomic sequencing, de novo assembly, and bioinformatic analysis. The genome size of the T. evansi YNB strain was 35.2 Mb, showing 96.59% similarity in sequence and 88.97% in scaffold alignment with T. brucei. A total of 8,617 protein-coding genes, accounting for 31% of the genome, were predicted. Approximately 1,641 alternative splicing events of 820 genes were identified, with a majority mediated by intron retention, which represented a major difference in post-transcriptional regulation between T. evansi and T. brucei. Disparities in gene copy number of the variant surface glycoprotein, expression site-associated genes, microRNAs, and RNA-binding protein were clearly observed between the two parasites. The results revealed the genomic determinants of T. evansi, which encoded specific biological characteristics that distinguished them from other related trypanosome species.展开更多

Ecosystem health assessment is one of the most important issues in regional ecological quality and safety studies.It also has a great significance to ecological conservation and regional development.This study focused...Ecosystem health assessment is one of the most important issues in regional ecological quality and safety studies.It also has a great significance to ecological conservation and regional development.This study focused on assessing the health status of forest,agriculture and urban ecosystems in the southwestern Beijing,China,including the Fangshan and Fengtai Districts.Based on field surveys and data collection,an assessment index system containing the vigor,organization and resilience factors was developed to measure the ecosystem health.Each index was scored from 1 to 5,representing five levels that contribute to the whole ecosystem health.The analytic hierarchy process(AHP)method was used to measure the weights of each index and three factors,and thus an overall score for a certain ecosystem was calculated.The results show that the forest ecosystem in the Fangshan District had higher health value than the Fengtai District,while the urban ecosystem had a slightly lower value in the Fangshan District than the Fengtai District.Both districts show lower resilience values in forest and urban ecosystems.Maintaining the ecosystem health will definitely benefit the long-term development of two districts.This study suggested that an approach for assessing the regional ecosystem health could be further developed to address spatial and synergy relationships between ecosystems and the three health factors.展开更多

The challenges to food securityfrom global change, sharply increasing food and feed demands, whereas increasing the frequency and severity of stresses,coupled with degradation and scarcity of natural resources, are indeed urgent and real (Prasanna et al. 2013). Crop productionmust double by 2050 to meet future production demands (Tilman et al. 2011). The ability to achieve this increaserepresents a significant challenge to plant breeders. Crop yields must increase at a rate of 2.47o per year, yet the averagerate of increase is only 1.3% with yields stagnating in up to 40% of land under cereal production (Ray et al. 2012, 2013). Therefore,crops with higher yield potential and more resistant to abiotic stress conditions are needed to address such challenges.展开更多

Two St chromosomes added to wheat chromosome in TAI-27 as well as two of them replaced two of 42 in wheat chromosomes. This indicates that TAI-27 is not only an alien additional line, but also a replacing line. The additional chromosomes in TAI-27 were microdissected and a microcloning library was constructed. A special probe of Th. intermedium was obtained from a microcloning library. The sequence analysis indicated that there were no homology with Genebank data. This makes it possible to screen genes with the disease-resistance, adversity-tolerance and fine character from Th.intermedium.展开更多
