As an artificial intelligence-powered language generation model based on natural language processing,ChatGPT,like other artificial intelligence technologies,possesses super real-time dialogue capabilities and is considered an innovative and intelligent auxiliary teaching tool in the field of language learning.This article first analyzes the current state of development of artificial intelligence technologies such as ChatGPT.Secondly,it examines the challenges encountered in the reform and development of English teaching in colleges and universities in China.Lastly,it summarizes the applications and recommendations for using ChatGPT technology in college-level English teaching.

Implications of The Gift of the Magi for Moral Education of Teenagers From the Perspective of Interaction Ritual Chains

Adolescence is a pivotal moment in shaping one’s character and holds great implications for one’s values and personal growth.The Gift of the Magi by O.Henry portrays how an ordinary young couple in difficult financial circumstances managed to show their love for each other,eulogizing truth,goodness,and beauty in humanity.We conducted a thorough examination of the significance of moral values conveyed in The Gift of the Magi for teenager education using the“situation-emotion-symbol”model that is based on Randall Collins’theory of interaction ritual chains in order to establish an interaction ritual chain model for moral education of teenagers.Our study reveals that situated cognition is useful in constructing the focus of attention for the moral education of teenagers;that shared emotion is the driving force for achieving moral education of teenagers;and that symbolic connections help teenagers put the virtues they’ve learned from The Gift of the Magi into action and provides effective measures that can significantly contribute to the cultivation and implementation of moral education among teenagers.

The Renaissance London in Verses and The Political Imagination of The Rise of Britain

Cities are co-built spaces by natural environment and human activities, and their formation and development rely on human activities. City spaces, according to Henri Lefebvre, are not only tangible and perceivable, but also heterogeneous, which can be reconstructed. London, as the most ancient city and the political, economic and cultural center of Britain, was depicted in verses of different periods, within which its landscape and city spaces took on different visions and had been endowed with various meanings. The heterogeneous London city spaces reveal historical changes, and, at the same time, reflect how the literary writers understand, perceive and expect from the city. From the Renaissance verses, readers can not only see what the London city was like in realistic writings, but also the imagined spaces based on the reconstructed history, which are the embodiment of the writers’ geopolitical imagination.

Research on Translation Strategies of Political Texts for International Publicity from the Perspective of Eco-Translatology

Eco-translatology provides a new perspective and methodology for the international publicity translation of political texts.This paper applies the viewpoint and methodology of eco-translatology,focuses on the three-dimensional transformation of language,culture,and communication,and discusses how translators can adapt to the eco-environment of political texts through the specific example of the keynote speech of China’s president at the opening ceremony of the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation and select suitable translation strategies and techniques to achieve an ecological balance of the target text in multiple dimensions.

The paper focuses on the four soldiers away from the battle field depicted in the short story Guests oftke nation written by Frank O＇Conner. The character analysis is achieved by the reflection of the human nature when the soldiers were temporarily living peacefully and their painful conflicts between duty as soldiers and human nature as men. Through the tragic fate of both the two executed Englishmen and the executors--two Irish men, the cruelty of the war is strongly condemned. The war mercilessly defeated the human nature cultivated through the friendship and knowing with each other.

The mismatch of beliefs about learning English between Chinese university students and teachers

The present investigation aims to explore the existence of differences of beliefs about learning English held by Chinese non-English major university students and their teachers of English in the southwest of China. Two questionnaires were used to collect the data. Chi-square （Z2） tests were used to analyze the quantitative data from both students＇ and teachers＇ questionnaires. The results of the chi-square （Z2） tests revealed that 34 out of 44 （plus 2 additional） items of beliefs varied significantly between teachers and students.

From TCM Practice to Classic Texts:The Case of Henry C.Lu’s A Complete Translation of the Yellow Emperor’s Classics of Internal Medicine and the Difficult Classic(Nei-Jing and Nan-Jing)

In memory of Dr.Henry C.Lu,a traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)practitioner,educator and translator,this article provides an overview of his masterpiece A Complete Translation of the Yellow Emperor’s Classics of Internal Medicine and the Difficult Classic(Nei-Jing and Nan-Jing)from the perspectives of book section,translation ideology and translation strategies.We then identify the features of TCM classics translated by overseas TCM practitioners and educators through analyzing exemplary characteristics of this translation.Their translations are often teaching oriented with plain and easy-to-read language,thus making TCM classics practical and applicable in clinic practice.Although these works are found in very few library collections of academic institutions,they received positive comments from readers including foreign TCM practitioners and students.

Effects of Nitrogen Application Rate to Late Rice on Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Soil Carbon Pool During the Growing Season of Winter Chinese Milk vetch

It is of important referential values for the further understanding of the effects of fertilization on greenhouse gas emissions and the effects of winter green manure on soil carbon pool to study the effects of fertilization on the greenhouse gas emissions and soil carbon pool during the growing season of winter Chinese milk vetch in the process of rice cultivation.This study investigated the effects of nitrogen application in late rice season on the yield of the succeeding Chinese milk vetch and greenhouse gas emissions as well as the soil carbon pool characteristics after the winter planting of Chinese milk vetch with the winter idling of no nitrogen application as the control.The results showed that the yield of Chinese milk vetch was the highest under the nitrogen application of 225 kg/hm^2 in the late rice season,reaching up to 18 388.97 kg/hm^2,which was significantly different from other treatments( P <0.05).Nitrogen application in late rice season increased the emissions of N_2 O,CH_4,CO_2 and global warming potential( GWP) in the growing season of Chinese milk vetch.Compared with the winter idling treatment,winter planting of Chinese milk vetch significantly increased the soil organic carbon and soil carbon pool management index.The yield of Chinese milk vetch was significantly positively correlated with N_2O and CH_4 emissions( P < 0.05),while it presented extremely significant positive correlations with CO_2 emissions,GWP,active organic carbon,and carbon pool management index( P < 0.01).Nitrogen application in the late rice season increased the emissions of N_2 O,CH_4,CO_2,and enhanced the greenhouse gas emission potential during the growing season of Chinese milk vetch.Therefore,without reducing the yield of rice,reducing the amount of nitrogen fertilizer in rice could reduce the greenhouse gas emissions in the growing season of succeeding Chinese milk vetch.

The Perception and Reaction of Indonesia to the Belt and Road Initiative and Suggestions for China's Response

Participation, support and understanding of countries along the Belt and Road are requisites for promoting and implementing this major initiative. Indonesia, a major ASEAN economy, is crucial but Indonesia has a limited perception of the B&R initiative. Although its government welcomes it and the ruling coalition cooperates positively, parts of the military and opposition are skeptical of China's intent. The B&R initiative is well-received among the Indonesian Chinese group, while Indonesian academic circles remain cautious and somewhat critical. From a Chinese viewpoint, easing negative or hostile emotions appropriately would be well-timed. China should settle the Natuna issue, adjust its publicity in Indonesia, use diplomacy, and promote Sino-Indonesia cultural exchange and communications. Chinese enterprises should focus on project quality and uphold social responsibilities. Short-term goals are reducing Indonesia's opposition and obstruction of B&R, while long-term goals are enhancing the recognition and likeability of the Initiative's worthwhile plans.

A Critique of （Pseudo） Feminist Criticism ofPost-1980s China

The feminist movement in current China has always been attracting controversial arguments, especially in contemporary women＇s writing and cultural criticism. The re-awakening of feminist consciousness took place in the 1980s and produced many good writers and critics dedicated to the course of women＇s enlightenment. However, after the International women＇s Conference in 1990s, the feminist movement took a theoretical and radical turn under the influence of Western feminist theories and their deconslructivist discourses. The dislocated confrontations between the Chinese female consciousness and the Western post-modern culture, along with the abusive application of Western gender study theories, make most of Chinese critics difficult to adopt a tolerant attitude toward Chinese experience, and tend to be hegemonic towards critics emphasizing reason and rationality. Its cultural politics ignored multiple forms of gender experience, and the conflicts between academic and political. This paper re-evaluates the development of Chinese feminist criticism of post-1980s China. And it proposes the Chinese feminist criticism should first and foremost be based on local experience of Chinese women, and then explores gender problems for Chinese readers.

Localization of Free Verse in China： A Case Study of Bing Xin＇s Short Poems

Intercultures play an important role in localization of translation. They are the essential reference resources for those who are translators as well as writers in their literary translation or creation. Translators contribute to the extension of source culture and in target culture by means ofintercultures to form new localized cultural paradigms. Bing Xin＇ s creation of the short free verse in the vernacular Chinese was influenced by Hu shih＇s new literature ideas and Zheng Zhenduo＇s translation of Stray Birds, a famous poetry anthology of Tagore. Through her translation, she borrowed new literary paradigms from foreign languages and successfully converted them into more acceptable ones in Chinese new literature. The paper, from the perspectives of Localization and Intercultures by Anthony Pym, explores the effects which Hu Shih and Zheng Zhenduo made upon Bing Xin＇s poetry translation and creation in the trend of poetry localization in the May Fourth Movement, and analyzes the interactions between Bing Xin＇s poetry creation and her poetry translation.

Manipulation always means a kind of extraordinary alteration for some purposes. All translation implies a degree of manipulation of the source text for a certain purpose. Liang Shih-chiu＇s literary translation serves for his literary creation which aims to promote colloquialism and to construct New Literature in the May Fourth Movement. Literary translation is the foundation of literary creation, or rather, its important strategy. The paper, from the perspective of Manipulation Theory, analyzes the purpose and strategy of Liang Shih-chiu＇s literary translation and explores the influence of his literary translation upon his literary creation in terms of ideology, poetics and patronage.

As a professional translator, Chinese history lecturer and academic writer, Julia Lovell has made a lot of contributions in translating modem Chinese literary works into English. Analysis of the Precision of Bispectral Estimation Methods

In order to evaluate the accuracy of bispectral estimation method, signals of cosine function were adopted. Because the cosine signals’ three order moment spectrum and three order cumulant spectrum are zero, Non zero part of the bispectrum estimated by no matter which method is the estimation error. Through the comparison of three kinds of estimation methods: the direct method, indirect method and AR parameter method, errors of various estimation methods were obtained, then changing the values of different parameters in all methods, and observing the bispectral error values changes with the parameters, so as to provide a basis for the various bispectrum estimation method and the selection.

HOW DIFFERENT VARIABLES AFFECT THE ACCURACY OF HAND-TIMING

To analyze the process of hand-timing and the resulting data collected from the hand-timing computer system(HTCS),including the timing operator′s reaction times of starting and stopping the watch,the results from the timing,the simulated electronic timing,the major factor that affects the time-keeper′s accuracy of time-keeping were studied,i.e.the stability of the timekeeper′s reaction time,rather than the time-keeper′s reation time.The leading cause that inflicts error between the hand-time-keeping and the electrionic time-keeping consists in the pitfall that the time-keeper makes a wrong judgment in stopping the watch.The analytical results provide theoretic gist for the selection and training of time-keeping operators.

An analysis of the motivational effect on employees of Maslow＇s Hierarchy of Needs in international culture circumstances

Maslow＇ s Hierarchy of Needs, which is one of the important motivation theories, has become a strategy used by managers to motivate employees. The project will explain the definition of motivation and Maslow＇ s Hierarchy of Needs from the perspective of organizational behavior and the strengths and weaknesses of the theory. Then it will consider how the theory is applied effectively in the USA and Northwest Europe and ineffectively in some developing and undeveloped countries with different economical backgrounds, political systems and cultural preferences. The conclusion suggests that managers should choose motivation systems that fit in the local cultural backgrounds.

Using Hierarchical Generalized Linear Modeling to Examine Contextual Differential Item Functioning:A Validity Study of Teachers'Sense of Efficacy Scale

The purpose of the study was to further investigate the validity of the instrument used for col-lecting preservice teachers'perceptions of sel-fficacy adapting the three-level hierarchical generalized linear modeling(HGLM)model.To serve the purpose,the study used data collct-ed by the research team which elicited preservice teachers'self-efficacy beliefs using Teachers'Sense of Efficacy Scale(TSES).HGLM were used to analyze the data.Results of the HGLM analyses(at level-two)showed that one item in the scale displayed gender DIF.Another item became DIF item when the context variable was added to the level-two model.However,the effect of the context on the DIF item was not big.
