This paper reevaluates the political and military significance of Hezbollah’s intervention in the Syrian conflict by exploring the organization’s strategies and dynamics and the outcomes of these in the post‘Arab S...This paper reevaluates the political and military significance of Hezbollah’s intervention in the Syrian conflict by exploring the organization’s strategies and dynamics and the outcomes of these in the post‘Arab Spring’Middle Eastern regional order.Hezbollah deployed troops in Syria.In May–June 2013,the leadership officially began to publicize the progress of its‘just war’based on a neo-muqawama scenario in which it called for an armed resistance to the dual threats of Zionists and takfiri jihadists.Hezbollah’s operations have assisted Syrian President Bashar alAssad to stay in power,albeit at a significant military and financial cost.However,it has also resulted in a serious side effect;the erosion of the organization’s identity as the‘Lebanese national resistance’and the subsequent escalation of Sunni-Shi‘a hostilities and sectarianism across the region.This,in turn,has incited further offensives by the Sunni takfiri jihadists active in the region and a vicious cycle of violence.Nevertheless,Hezbollah should not be seen only as a‘spoiler’for political stability in the Middle East.On the contrary,despite its provocative and radical revolutionary narratives,it remains in the‘conservative camp’and seeks to pursue a political status quo so as to prevent total collapse of the balance of power in the post‘Arab Spring’regional order.展开更多
The Sino-U.S.relations are one of the most important bilateral relations in the world.The sound and steady development of the relations not only conforms to the fundamental interests of both countries and peoples,but ...The Sino-U.S.relations are one of the most important bilateral relations in the world.The sound and steady development of the relations not only conforms to the fundamental interests of both countries and peoples,but also contributes to the future world security order structuring.However,U.S policies towards China have been undergoing significant changes since President Trump assumed power,leading to intensifying strategic competition between the two countries and making the bilateral relationship escalate in a complex,uncertain and uncontrollable manner.In the face of enormous difficulties,more efforts should be made to stabilize and further develop Sino-U.S.relations now standing at a juncture.This has sparked a wave of discussion and debate among scholars both at home and abroad.How to view Sino-U.S.relations in a comprehensive,objective,rational and pragmatic manner has become a major subject worth further exploration and clarification.Against this backdrop,on September 19,2020,the Editorial Department of Journal of International Security Studies of UIR and the PLA Information Engineering University(Luoyang Campus)successfully co-hosted the 13 th"Expert Forum"on the subject of"Assessing Sino-U.S.relations"in Luoyang,Henan Province.Under the framework of"future development of Sino-U.S.relations and the world security order structuring",distinguished scholars and researchers from all around China discussed such major issues as difficulties and development trends of Sino-U.S.relations,U.S.domestic political landscape and its policies towards China,as well as the construction of the future world security order and China’s strategic responses.Some of the viewpoints of the scholars and researchers are now offered to our readers.展开更多
