For a cubic cavity with a vertical temperature difference of 6.7°C and 20°C, the velocity pulsation profiles and the mean velocity profiles of the vertical section in the middle of the cubic cavity were simulated, respectively. And they are consistent with the experiment results. Furthermore, the mean velocity field of the vertical cross-section in the middle of the cavity was calculated. Structures of the mean velocity field in the two cases are similar. A counterclockwise large vortex is found to occupy the cavity, and there are two small clockwise vortices in the lower left and upper right corners, and the mean velocity fields at two different temperature differences are consistent with the experimental results. The two-dimensional instantaneous temperature field and mean temperature field with different cross-sections in the z-direction, as well as the three-dimensional instantaneous isothermal surface structure, indicate that the large-scale circulation motion within the cubic cavity is moving diagonally. In addition, the structure of the mean streamline also illustrates this viewpoint. For the reverse vortex formed at two corners in the mean streamline structure, we used the Q criterion to identify and obtain two vortex structures similar to boomerangs. The basic turbulent structure in RB thermal convection includes the rising and falling plumes generated by buoyancy effects.展开更多

Using the center manifold theorem, we obtain a three dimensional reduced map through the projection technique. The reduced map is further transformed into its normal form whose coefficients are determined by that of the original system. The dynamics of the map near the Hopf-flip bifurcation point is approximated by a so called “time-2τ^2 map” of a planar autonomous differential equation. It is shown that high dimensional maps may result in cycles of period two, tori T^1 (Hopf invariant circles), tori 2T^1 and tori 2T^2 depending both on how the critical eigenvalues pass the unit circle and on the signs of resonant terms' coefficients. A two-degree-of-freedom vibro-impact system is given as an example to show how the procedure of this paper works. It reveals that through Hopf-flip bifurcations, periodic motions may lead directly to different types of motion, such as subharmonic motions, quasi-periodic motions, motions on high dimensional tori and even to chaotic motions depending both on change in direction of the parameter vector and on the nonlinear terms of the first three orders.展开更多

The aeroelastic system contains both structural and aerodynamic nonlinearities. Hopf bifurcation theory is used to analyze the flutter speed of the system. The effects of system parameters on the flutter speed are studied. The 4th order Runge-Kutta method is used to calculate the stable limit cycle responses and chaotic motions of the aeroelastic system. Results show that the number and the stability of equilibrium points of the system vary with the increase of flow speed. Besides the simple limit cycle response of period 1, there are also period-doubling responses and chaotic motions in the flutter system. The route leading to chaos in the aeroelastic model used here is the period-doubling bifurcation. The chaotic motions in the system occur only when the flow speed is higher than the linear divergent speed and the initial condition is very small. Moreover, the flow speed regions in which the system behaves chaos axe very narrow.展开更多

The strain-displacement relation of the von Karman's large deflection theory is employed to describe the geometric non-linearity and the aerodynamic piston theory is employed to account for the effects of the aerodynamic force. The unconventional Hamilton-type variation principle can fully characterize the initial boundary value problem of this dynamics. In this paper, an important integral relation is given, which can be considered as the generalized principle of virtual work in mechanics. Based on this relation, it is possible not only to obtain the principle of virtual work in dynamics of Reissner sandwich plate, but also to derive systematically the complementary functionals for fivefield, two-field and one-field unconventional Hamilton-type variational principles by the generalized Legender transformations. Furthermore, with this approach, the intrinsic relationship among the various principles can be explained clearly.展开更多

The interaction between the regular waves and the fixed free surface mountain-type breakwater is measured in one wave flume(15.0 m×0.6 m×0.7 m). The wave propagation, reflection, and transmission process are simulated using the VOF method and the hybrid SAS/laminar method. The simulated wave profiles are consistent with the experimental observations. For waves with a length smaller than four times width of the mountain-type breakwater, the reflected wave amplitudes are slightly larger than those of the vertical-plate breakwater, while the wave transmission coefficients are all smaller than 0.5, and the wave loss coefficients are larger than 0.7. The wave energy is dissipated by wave breaking on the windward inclined plate, and turbulent flow around the vertical plate and the leeward inclined plate.展开更多

The Matlab software was used to obtain the 2-dimensional distribution of stress in the rock specimen for Brazilian test. Then the 2-dimensional stress distribution in Brazilian disk was analyzed by the Marc FEM software. It can be found that the results obtained by the two software packages can verify each other. Finally, the 3-dimensional elastic stress in the specimen was calculated. The results demonstrate that the distribution of stress on the cross section of the specimen is similar to that in 2-dimension. However, the value of the stress on the cross section varies along the thickness of the specimen and the stress is bigger when getting closer to the end of the specimen. For the specimen with a height-to-diameter ratio of 1 and a Poisson's ratio of 0.25, the tensile strength calculated with the classical 2-D formula is 23.3% smaller than the real strength. Therefore, the classical 2-D formula is too conservative.展开更多

The prediction of segregation in MIM requires a bi-phase flow model to describe distinctly the flows of metallic powder and polymer binder. Viscous behaviors for the flows of each phase should hence be determined. The coefficient of interaction between the flows of two phases should also be evaluated. However, only viscosity of the mixed feedstock is measurable by capillary tests. Wall sticking is supposed in the traditional model for capillary tests, while the wall slip is important to be taken into account in MIM injection. Objective of the present paper is to introduce the slip effect in bi-phase simulation, and search the suitable way to determine the viscous behaviors for each phase with the consideration of wall slip in capillary tests. Analytical and numerical methods were proposed to realize such a specific purpose. The proposed method is based on the mass conservation between the capillary flows in mono-phase model for the mixed feedstock and in bi-phase model for the flows of two phases. Examples of the bi-phase simulation in MIM were realized with the software developed by research team. The results show evident segregation, which is valuable for improving the mould designs.展开更多

The ideal elasto-plastic constitutive model of material under a Taylor impact is characterized by the Jaumann stress- and strain-rates. An updated Lagrangian format is used for the calculation in a nu- merical analysis. With the RKPM, this paper deals with the calculation model for the Taylor impact and deduces the control equation for the impact process. A program was developed to simulate numerically the Taylor impact of projec- tiles composed of several kinds of material. The simulation result is in good accordance with both the test results and the Taylor analysis outcome. Since the meshless method is not limited by meshes, it is believed to be widely applicable to such complicated processes as the Taylor impact, including large deformation and strain and to the study of the dy- namic qualities of materials.展开更多

文摘Projectile made of carbon fiber composite material shell and metal warhead penetrates concrete target at speeds of 336,m/s,447,m/s and 517,m/s.The angles between the perpendicu-lar of target surface and projectile axis are 0°and 30°.The thickness of concrete target is 200,mm and the compression strength is 30 MPa.The experimental results indicate that the strength of composite material structure is high.Composite projectile can go through concrete tar-get without fiber segregation and breakage. The percent fill is 18.5% in the composite material projectile. It is about twice as that of metal projectile,if the density of metal is taken as 7.8,g/cm3.Comparing with metal projectile,low-density,high-strength composite material can lessen projec-tile weight, improve charge-weight ratio of detonator and enhance destructive powder.

文摘According to the basic idea of classical yin-yang complementarity and modern dual-complementarity, in a simple and unified way proposed by Luo(1987), some uncon ventional Hamilton-type variational principles for dynamics of Reissner sandwich plate can be established systematically. Furthermore, with this approach, the intrinsic relationship among the various principles can be explained clearly.

文摘One mountain-type breakwater consisting of two inclined plates and one vertical plate is proposed based on several types of traditional free surface breakwaters, including the horizontal plate, curtain wall, and trapezoidal barriers. The wave energy is dissipated by wave breaking on the windward inclined plate, and turbulent flow around the vertical plate and the leeward inclined plate.

文摘It is claimed that the formula used for calculating the tensile strength of a disk-shaped rock specimen in the Brazilian test is not accurate, because the formula is based on the 2-dimensional elastic theory and only suitable for very long or very short cylinders. Therefore, the classical 2-D formula is too conservative.

文摘Powder segregation induced by mold filling is an important phenomenon that affects the final quality of metal injection molding (MIM). The results show evident segregation, which is valuable for improving the mould designs.

文摘The Reproducing Kernel Particle Method (RKPM) is one of several new meshless numerical methods de- veloped internationally in recent years. Since the meshless method is not limited by meshes, it is believed to be widely applicable to such complicated processes as the Taylor impact, including large deformation and strain and to the study of the dy- namic qualities of materials.
