Interaction of DNA with aromatic hydrocarbons fraction in atmospheric particulates of Xigu District of Lanzhou,China

Voluminously epidemiological studies show that the relationships exist between the air pollution and human health and cancer. Aromatic hydrocarbons （AHs） in air form a large class of organic pollutants, which are widely in environment and many of them are known to be carcinogenic and/or mutagenic and contribute to ambient air pollution. In the past decades, bioassays mainly have been used to evaluate the toxicity of chemical mixtures in atmospheric particulates or aqueous environment. However, it is well known that the covalent complexes formed by carcinogens with DNA may be exert negative results in bioassay. So the main aim of this paper is to develop an evaluation method of toxicity effects of chemical mixtures in atmospheric particulates from chemical standpoint. In this study, the in vitro interaction of the AHs with DNA was investigated by absorption, fluorescence and resonance light scattering （RLS） spectroscopic techniques. The results showed that the AHs in the atmospheric particulates could combine with calf thymus DNA （ctDNA） and herring sperm DNA （hsDNA） without being activated or metabolized by organism, respectively. Intercalation may be present in the mechanism of interaction. The binding constants of the AHs with ctDNA and hsDNA were 2.5x102 and 2.0x103, respectively, which indicated that the interaction of the AHs with hsDNA is stronger than that with ctDNA. In addition, the relationships of dose-effect between the total mole concentration of chemical components and the ability of binding ctDNA and hsDNA were confirmed. This research made it possible to study the toxicity effects of chemical mixtures in atmospheric particulates by chemical method. It is believed that the composition and contents of unknown AHs and the interaction of DNA with AHs in atmospheric particulates of Xigu District of Lanzhou City, China are first reported in the past twenty years.

CdTe quantum dots as fluorescence sensor for the determination of vitamin B6 in aqueous solution

A novel, rapid and simple CdTe quantum dots （QDs） based technology platform was established for selective and sensitive determination of vitamin B6 in aqueous solution. It can perform accurate and reproducible quantification of vitamin B6 in pharmaceutical with satisfactory results.

PREPARATION AND SWELLING PROPERTIES OF SUPER-ABSORBENT POLYMER

A super-absorbent polymer is prepared by graft polymerizing acrylamide (AM) onto potato starch using eerie ammonium nitrate (CAN) and N, N'-methylene-bis-acrylamide (bisAM) as an initiator and cross-linking agent respectively, and then subjecting the potato starch- poly(acrylamide) (PAM) graft copolymer (SPAM) to alkaline saponification. The water absorbency (WA) of the sample is nearly 5000 g H2O/g for dry sample in 24 h at room temperature and is far larger than that of reported in the literature([1]). The variables affecting the WA were investigated and optimiz;ed, they were: concentrations of potato starch, AM, CAN and bisAM were 26.3 g/L, 1.14 mol/L, 10.3 mmol/L and 0.53 mmol/L, respectively. The amount of sodium hydroxide was 15 g and the temperatures of graft copolymerization and saponification reactions were 60 degrees C and 95 degrees C. The time of graft copolymerization and saponification reactions was 2 h, respectively.

Electroless deposition of W-doped Ag films onto p-Si(100)from diluted HF solution

Tungsten-doped silver films were prepared by immersing hydrogen-terminated silicon wafers into the solution of 2.5 mmol/L[Ag2WO4]+0.1 mol/L HF at 50℃.Their growth and composition were characterized with atomic force microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,respectively.The effect of tungstate ions on the deposition of silver was investigated by X-ray diffraction(XRD)and scanning electron microscopy(SEM)by comparing W-doped Ag film with Ag film.It is found that the molar fraction of tungsten in the deposits is about 2.3%and the O to W molar ratio was about 4.0 and W-doped Ag films have good anti-corrosion in air at 350℃.The doping of tungsten cannot change the deposition of silver.

Study on the Structure of Supramolecular Inclusion Complex of β-Cyclodextrin with Retinoic Acid

Inclusion compound of retinoic acid with (-cyclodextrin was prepared by coprecipitating method, the structure of resulting product was studied by elemental analysis, differential scanning caloriemetry(DSC) analysis, FT-IR spectroscopy and X-ray diffractometry, and the formed supramolecule self-assembles in aqueous solution according to molar ratio 2:1 of host-guest.

Sol-Gel Template Synthesis and Photocatalytic Activity of TiO_2 Nanofibrils Loaded on Al_2O_3 Template

TiO2 nanofibrils were prepared within the pores of alumina template membrane by use of sol-gel chemistry. The TiO2 nanofibrils have good crystallinity and size. There is agglomeration free among the particulates of TiO2 and the fibrils show high catalytic activity.

Quantitative Structure-retention Relationship Study on the GC-MS Retention Time of Illicit Drugs

A quantitative structure-retention relationship（QSRR） study has been carried out on the gas chromatograph-mass spectrometry（GC-MS） system retention time（RT） of two sets of illicit drugs by using molecular structural descriptors.Heuristic method（HM） was utilized to construct the linear models.Appropriate models with low standard errors and high correlation coefficients were obtained（R2=0.9873,F=390.18 for data set 1 and R2=0.9881,F=749.13 for data set 2）.The results of leave-one-out cross validation showed good predictive ability of these proposed models（R c2v= 0.9812 and R c2v= 0.9824,respectively）.Each molecular descriptor in the two models was disputed to unfold the relationship between the molecular structures and RT.

Preparation and Spectral Characterization of 3-Benzyl-6-aryl-1,2,4-triazolothiadiazoles

Benzyl 4 amino 5 mercapto 1,2,4 triazole reacted with aromatic acids in the presence of phosphorus oxychloride, yielding a series of new compounds, i.e. , 3 benzyl 6 aryl 1,2,4 triazolothiadiazoles, each of which has an active methylene at 3 position. The structures of all the title compounds were confirmed by elementary analysis, IR, 1H NMR and 13 C NMR spectra.

Synthesis of a new aromatic dianhydride monomer and related polyimide

A novel aromatic dianhydride monomer, 3,3′-oxybis[（3,4-dicarboxyphenoxy）phenol] dianhydride, was successfully synthe- sized in three steps using 3,3′-oxybis（phenol） as starting material, which was reacted with 4,4′-oxydianiline （ODA） via a conventional thermal or chemical imidization method to produce a new polyimide. The resulting polyimide exhibited excellent solubility, and film-forming capability.

Studies on the Syntheses and Biological Activities of 3-Aryl-6-(1,1'-biphenyl-4-yl)-7H-1,2,4-triazolo[3,4-b][1,3,4]thiadiazines

A series of novel 3-aryl-6-(1,1’-biphenyl-4-yl)-7H-1,2,4-triazolothiadiazines was synthesized by means of the reactions between 3-aryl-4-amino-5-mercapto-1,2,4-triazoles and 2-bromo-4’-phenylacetophenone. The structures of all the title compounds have been confirmed by virtue of elemental analysis, IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and mass spectra. The characteristics of 13C NMR peaks of the compounds were investigated. The plant growth regulating effects of those compounds were also determined.

Complexes of Rare Earth Picrates with 1,10-Phenanthroline-N-Oxide

Rare earth picrate complexes with the ligand PhenNO, RE(PhenNO)2(pic)3(RE = La, Pr, Nd, Sm to approximately Tb, Er, Y), have been prepared in non-aqueous medium. The complexes were characterized by elementary analysis, molar conductance, IR, Raman, electronic, fluorescence and 1H NMR spectra and TG-DTA techniques.

Synthesis,Characterization and Thermal Decomposition Behaviour of Tri-aquo Lanthanum(Ⅲ)Malonate Bimalonate

A new complex of malonic acid with lanthanum,La(Hmal)·(mal)·3H_2O,was synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis and IR spectra.The thermal decomposition process and their kinetic parameters n and E_a were studied by means of TG and DTG.All of the intermediate and end products were determined and characterized by the mass loss in TG curve,elemental analysis and IR spectra.

An Improved Method of Total Synthesis of 2-Methoxypodocarpane-8,11,13-triene

12-Methoxypodocarpane-8,11,13-triene 1, the key intermediate in the synthesis of some important diterpenes, was synthesized in an efficient way, which has the characteristics of short route simple operation and high yield.

SYNTHFSIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF LANTHANIDE COMPARTMENTATL COMPLEXES,Ln_(2)[H_(2)(BAA)_(2)en]_(3)·pH_(2)O

A series of new complexes of formula Ln_2[H_2(BAA)_2en]_3nH_2 Otwhere Ln- La, Pr, Eu, Cd, Dy, Er, Yb, n-1-4) have been prepared by the reaccLon of lanthanide ions with acycllc compartmental ligand X, N'-bis(benzoylacetylacetone)ethylenediamine (H_4(BAA)_2 en) in methanol. IR and UV spectra, as well as TC DAT analysis prove that the ligand and the Lanthanide ions have coordinated. The coordination number is 12 and the complexes may be of double sandwiched structure.

A Study of Extraction of Scandium with BPMDD

Due to the ferro-philic and rock-philic geochemical properties, dispersion of resources as well as itscomplicated composition, the properties of scandium are similar to those of the lanthanide. Hence, its separa-tion from the lanthanides and iron is an important subject which has been studied extensively.1,10-bis(1’-phenyl-3’-methyl-5’-oxopyrazole-4’-yl)decane-1, 10-dione(BPMDD, HA)is a β-diketone chelating agent, and has a strong extracting power. The extraction of Sc with this chelating agenthas not been reported so far. In this communication, we attempt to separate scandium from the lanthanidesand some other elements by the extraction with BPMDD under suitable conditions.

Synthesis and Characterization of the Alkali Periodate Complexes of Rare Earths: M_2LnIO_6·xH_2O

The novel eomplexes of alkali and rare earth metal with periodate have been prepared for the first time. Chemical analysis indicates that the composition of the complexes is M_2LnIO_6·xH_2O(M=Li,Na,K;Ln=Pr, Tb),and all of the complexes have been characterized by UV-Visible,IR spectroscopic studies,susceptibility measurements and thermal analysis.

A Concise Approach to the Synthesis of Carnosic Acid Type Diterpenes

Nine new solid complexes of Mn(Ⅱ),Co(Ⅱ),Cu(Ⅱ),Zn(Ⅱ.),Ag(Ⅰ) nitrates with 4',5'-dibromobenzo-15—crown—5(L_A),Ag(Ⅰ),Cd(Ⅱ)nitrates with tetrabromodibenzo—18—crown—6(L_B)and Cu(Ⅱ), Ag(Ⅰ) nitrates with 4'—bromo—5'—nitrobenzo—15—crown-5(L_c),having the compositions of M(NO_2)_2·L·nH_2O(M=Mn,Co, Zn,L=L_A,n=2;M=Cu,L=L_A,n=1.5; M=Cd, L=L_B,n=0; M=Cu,L=Lc,n=2) and AgNO_·L·nCH_3CN(L=LA,n=0; L=L_B,n=1; L=Lc,n=1/2) have been synthesized in nonaqueous solvent. All the isolated complexes have been characterized by elementary analysis, IR and UV spectra, differential thermal and thermogravimetric analysis, X—ray powder diffraction analysis, molar conductance and measuremends of solubility in some general solvents.
