Constant-step stress accelerated life test of Vacuum Fluorescent Display (VFD) was conducted with increased cathode temperature. Statistical analysis was done by applying Weibull distribution for describing the life, and Least Square Method (LSM)for estimating Weibull parameters. Self-designed special software was used to predict the VFD life. Numerical results showed that the average life of VFD is over 30000 h, that the VFD life follows Weibull distribution, and that the life-stress relationship satisfies linear Arrhenius equation completely. Accurate calculation of the key parameter enabled rapid estimation of VFD life. 展开更多

Regularity is a characteristic of datapath and the key of the proposed method, where synthesis is tightly combined with placement to make full use of regularity, so that low power consumption is achieved. In This paper, a new concept of Synthesis In Relative Placement (SIRP) is given to deal with the semi-regularity in some datapath. This paper presents a novel approach of M-ary baseband pulse amplitude modulated signal processing via a parameter-optimized nonlinear dynamic system. This nonlinear system usually shows the phenomenon of stochastic resonance by adding noise. To thoroughly discuss the signal processing performance of the nonlinear system, we tune the system parameters to obtain a nonlinear detector with optimal performance. For characterizing the output of the nonlinear system, the derivation of the probability of detection error is given by the system response speed and the probability density function of the nonlinear system output. By varying the noise intensity with fixed system parameters, the phenomenon of stochastic resonance is shown and by tuning the system parameters with fixed noise, the probability of detection error is minimized and the nonlinear system is optimized. The detection performance of the two cases is compared with the theoretical probability of detection error, which is validated by numerical simulation. 展开更多

A highly nonlinear photonic crystal fibre 25 m in length is used as Brillouin gain medium and fibre Bragg grating Fabry-Perot cavity is chosen in order to enhance the laser conversion efficiency and suppress the higher-order Stokes waves. The laser reaches the threshold at input power of 35 mW, and the experimental laser conversion efficiency achieves 18% of the input power of 140 mW and does not show higher-order Stokes waves. A photonic crystal fibre Brillouin laser with shorter fibre length and lower threshold is experimentally realized. 展开更多

Surface acoustic wave (SAW) resonators are a type of ultraviolet (UV) light sensors with high sensitivity, and they have been extensively studied. Transparent SAW devices are very useful and can be developed into various sensors and microfluidics for sensing/monitoring and lab-on-chip applications. We report the fabrication of high sensitivity SAW UV sensors based on piezoelectric (PE) ZnO thin films deposited on glass substrates. The sensors were fabricated and their performances against the post-deposition annealing condition were investigated. It was found that the UV-light sensitivity is improved by more than one order of magnitude after annealing. The frequency response increases significantly and the response becomes much faster. The optimized devices also show a small temperature coefficient of frequency and excellent repeatability and stability, demonstrating its potential for UV-light sensing application. 展开更多

It can provide convincing animations without an explicit geometric representation. In this paper, several implementations of light field rendering are summa- rized from prior arts. Several characteristics, such as the regu- lar pattern in Epipolar Plane Images (EPIs), of light field are explored with detail under 1D parallel camera arrangement. It is proved that it is quite efficient to synthesize virtual views for Super Multi-View (SMV) application, which is in the third phase of Free- Viewpoint Television (FTV). In comparison with convolutional stereo matching method, in which the inter- mediate view is synthesized by the two adjacent views, light field rendering makes use of more views supplied to get the high-quality views. 展开更多

Optical ring-resonator-based modulators are fabricated on the silicon-on-insulator material through the mature commercial 0.8μm complementary metal oxide semiconductor foundry. The device configuration is based on a single ring resonator coupled to one bus waveguide. The waveguide widths are about 1 μm. The p-i-n junctions are employed to inject currents. The experimental result shows that the ring resonators with the quality factor of above 40000 are obtained. The maximum extinction ratio of the modulators is larger than 10dB. The speed is tens of nanoseconds, and the corresponding injected current is smaller than 10 mA. 展开更多

By applying the microring resonator to the Mach-Zehnder (MZ) optical modulator and employing the super-linear phase change characteristic of the all-pass filter, the sublinear modulation curve of the conventional MZ modulator is highly linearized. With properly controlled power coupling between the microring and the arm of the MZ modulator, the third-order distortion can be suppressed. If the transmission coefficient is set between 0.25 and 0.42, the linearity range larger than 90% can be easily achieved. The maximum linearity range is even up to 99.5%. 展开更多

An optical fiber hydrophone based on equivalent phase shift fiber Bragg grating (EPS-FBG) with temperature compensation package provides an improvement of sensitivity in underwater acoustic measurement at wide frequency range, from 2.SkHz to 12kHz. The acoustic pressure is transduced into elastic vibration of a circle metal disk, resulting in an intensity modulation of the reflected light wave back from fiber Bragg grating (FBG). Experiment shows that the 500 EPS-FBG hydrophone has a minimum detectable acoustic pressure of about at 5 kHz and achieves about 18-dB improvement of acoustic pressure sensitivity compared with a regular apodized FBG hydrophone. 展开更多

A laboratory-made tumor cell detection device was fabricated based on both surface plasmon resonance imaging(SPRi) and image processing.In this device,a gravity-induced flow injection chip(gFIC) was exploited to replace a pump.Also two charge coupled devices(CCDs) were used to detect HepG2 cells by SPRi and image processing,respectively.The results of two CCDs are associated.Protein A was used to modify the sensing surface.The inlet angle was carefully adjusted for the device to get an enhanced image.In the test,the contrast among cell solutions at different concentrations can be easily distinguished.The other CCD using image processing can tell false-positive in some degree.This detection is label-free,real time,and precise. 展开更多

An approach of Bayesian Matched Field Processing (MFP) was discussed in the uncertain ocean environment. In this approach, uncertainty knowledge is modeled and spatial and temporal data received by the array are fully used. Therefore, a mechanism for MFP is found, which well combines model-based and data-driven methods of uncertain field processing. By theoretical derivation, simulation analysis and the validation of the experimental array data at sea, we find that (1) the basic components of Bayesian matched field processors are the cor- responding sets of Bartlett matched field processor, MVDR (minimum variance distortionless response) matched field processor, etc.; (2) Bayesian MVDR/Bartlett MFP are the weighted sum of the MVDR/Bartlett MFP, where the weighted coefficients are the values of the a posteriori probability; (3) with the uncertain ocean environment, Bayesian MFP can more correctly locate the source than MVDR MFP or Bartlett MFP; (4) Bayesian MFP can better suppress sidelobes of the ambiguity surfaces. 展开更多

A diode-triggered silicon controlled rectifier (DTSCR) is being developed as an electrostatic discharge (ESD) pro- tection device for low voltage applications. However, DTSCR leaks high current during normal operation due to the Darlington effect of the triggering-assist diode string. In this study, two types of diode string triggered SCRs are designed for low leakage consideration; the modified diode string and composite polysilicon diode string triggered SCRs (MDTSCR & PDTSCR). Com- pared with the conventional DTSCR (CDTSCR), the MDTSCR has a much lower substrate leakage current with a relatively large silicon cost, and the PDTSCR has a much lower substrate leakage current with similar area and shows good leakage performance at a high temperature. Other DTSCR ESD properties are also investigated, especially regarding their layout, triggering voltage and failure current. 展开更多

A novel coupled quantum well structure - quasi-symmetric coupled quantum well (QSCQW) is proposed. In the case of low applied electric field (F = 25 kV/cm) and low absorption loss (a ≈ 100 cm^-1), a large field-induced refractive index change (for TE mode, △n = 0.0106; for TM mode, △n = 0.0115) is obtained in QSCQW structure at operating wavelength λ = 1550 nm. The value is larger by over one to two order of magnitude compared to that in a rectangular quantum well (RQW) and about 50% larger than that of five-step asymmetric coupled quantum well (FACQW) structure under the above work conditions. 展开更多

To simplify the process for identifying 12 types of symmetric variables in the canonical OR-coincidence(COC) algebra system, we propose a new symmetry detection algorithm based on OR-NXOR expansion. By analyzing the relationships between the coefficient matrices of sub-functions and the order coefficient subset matrices based on OR-NXOR expansion around two arbitrary logical variables, the constraint conditions of the order coefficient subset matrices are revealed for 12 types of symmetric variables. Based on the proposed constraints, the algorithm is realized by judging the order characteristic square value matrices. The proposed method avoids the transformation process from OR-NXOR expansion to AND-OR-NOT expansion, or to AND-XOR expansion, and solves the problem of completeness in the dj-map method. The application results show that, compared with traditional methods, the new algorithm is an optimal detection method in terms of applicability of the number of logical variables, detection type, and complexity of the identification process. The algorithm has been implemented in C language and tested on MCNC91 benchmarks. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is convenient and efficient. 展开更多
