Reliability Evaluation of Two-Stage Directed Semi-Markov Repairable Network Systems

A two-stage directed Semi-Markov repairable network system is presented in this paper to model the performance of many transmission systems, such as power or oil transmission network, water or gas supply network, etc. The availability of the system is discussed by using Markov renewal theory, Laplace transform and probability analysis methods. A numerical example is given to illustrate the results obtained in the paper.

THE BOUNDS OF THE GENERAL M AND J SETS AND THE ESTIMATIONS FOR THE HAUSDORFF'S DIMENSION OF THE GENERAL J SET

The bounds of the general M and J sets were analytically offered. Some of the bounds were optimal in certain meaning. It not only solved the primary problem of the construction of fractal sets by escape time algorithm, and followed from the conclusion, but also offered two estimations of some special Julia set’s Hausdorff’s dimension by approximate linearization method.

Quantum cloning machines and their implementation in physical systems

We review the basic theory of approximate quantum cloning for discrete variables and some schemes for implementing quantum cloning machines.Several types of approximate quantum clones and their expansive quantum clones are introduced.As for the implementation of quantum cloning machines,we review some design methods and recent experimental results.

One-parameter quasi-filled function algorithm for nonlinear integer programming

A definition of the quasi-filled function for nonlinear integer programming problem is given in this paper. A quasi-filled function satisfying our definition is presented. This function contains only one parameter. The properties of the pro- posed quasi-filled function and the method using this quasi-filled function to solve nonlinear integer programming problem are also discussed in this paper. Numerical results indicated the efficiency and reliability of the proposed quasi-filled function algo- rithm.

Critical Behaviors in a Stochastic One-Dimensional Sand-Pile Model

A one-dimensional sand-pile model (Manna model), which has a stochastic redistribution process, is studied both in discrete and continuous manners. The system evolves into a critical state after a transient period. A detailed analysis of the probability distribution of the avalanche size and duration is numerically investigated. Interestingly,contrary to the deterministic one-dimensional sand-pile model, where multifractal analysis works well, the analysis based on simple finite-size scaling is suited to fitting the data on the distribution of the avalanche size and duration. The exponents characterizing these probability distributions are measured. Scaling relations of these scaling exponents and their universality class are discussed.

Fixed-Point Iteration Method for Solving the Convex Quadratic Programming with Mixed Constraints

The present paper is devoted to a novel smoothing function method for convex quadratic programming problem with mixed constrains, which has important application in mechanics and engineering science. The problem is reformulated as a system of non-smooth equations, and then a smoothing function for the system of non-smooth equations is proposed. The condition of convergences of this iteration algorithm is given. Theory analysis and primary numerical results illustrate that this method is feasible and effective.

<i>L</i>-Convex Polyominoes: Discrete Tomographical Aspects

This paper uses the geometrical properties of L-convex polyominoes in order to reconstruct these polyominoes. The main idea is to modify some clauses to the original construction of Chrobak and Dürr in order to control the L-convexity using 2SAT satisfaction problem.

Ab initio study of the effects of Ag/Mn doping on the electronic structure of LiFePO_4

Based on density functional theory (DFT) of the first-principle for the cathode materials of lithium ion battery, the electronic structures of Li(Fe1-xMex)PO4 (Me = Ag/Mn, x = 0―0.40) are calculated by plane wave pseudo-potential method using Cambridge serial total energy package (CASTEP) program. The calculated results show that the Fermi level of mixed atoms Fe1-xAgx moves into its conduction bands (CBs) due to the Ag doping. The Li(Fe1-xAgx)PO4 system displays the periodic direct semiconductor characteristic with the increase of Ag-doped concentration. However, for Fe1-xMnx mixed atoms, the Fermi level is pined at the bottom of conduction bands (CBs), which is ascribed to the interaction be-tween Mn(3d) electrons and Fe(4s) electrons. The intensity of the partial density of states (PDOS) near the bottom of CBs becomes stronger with the increase of Mn-doped concentration. The Fermi energy of the Li(Fe1-xMnx)PO4 reaches maximum at x = 0.25, which is consistent with the experimental value of x = 0.20. The whole conduction property of Mn-doped LiFePO4 is superior to that of Ag-doped LiFePO4 cathode material, but the structural stability is reverse.

Propagation of elastic wave in nanoporous material with distributed cylindrical nanoholes

The effective propagation constants of plane longitudinal and shear waves in nanoporous material with random distributed parallel cylindrical nanoholes are studied. The surface elastic theory is used to consider the surface stress effects and to derive the nontraditional boundary condition on the surface of nanoholes. The plane wave expansion method is used to obtain the scattering waves from the single nanohole. The multiple scattering effects are taken into consideration by summing the scat- tered waves from all scatterers and performing the configuration averaging of random distributed scatterers. The effective propagation constants of coherent waves along with the associated dynamic effective elastic modulus are numerically evaluat- ed. The influences of surface stress are discussed based on the numerical results.

The Laplacian Spread of Bicyclic Graphs

The Laplacian spread of a graph is defined to be the difference between the largest eigenvalue and the second smallest eigenvalue of the Laplacian matrix of the graph. In our recent work, we have determined the graphs with maximal Laplacian spreads among all trees of fixed order and among all unicyclic graphs of fixed order, respectively. In this paper, we continue the work on Laplacian spread of graphs, and prove that there exist exactly two bicyclic graphs with maximal Laplacian spread among all bicyclic graphs of fixed order, which are obtained from a star by adding two incident edges and by adding two nonincident edges between the pendant vertices of the star, respectively.

Prediction of water table depths under soil water-groundwater interaction and stream water conveyance

Water table over an arid region can be elevated to a critical level to sustain terrestrial ecosystem along the natural channel by the stream water conveyance. Estimation of water table depth and soil moisture on river channel profile may be reduced to a two-dimensional moving boundary problem with soil water-groundwater interaction. The two-dimensional soil water flow with stream water transferred is divided into an unsaturated vertical soil water flow and a horizontal groundwater flow. Therefore, a prediction model scheme for water table depths under the interaction between soil water and groundwater with stream water transferred is presented, which includes a vertical soil water movement model, a horizontal groundwater movement model, and an interface model. The synthetic experiments are conducted to test the sensitivities of the river elevation, horizontal conductivity, and surface flux, and the results from the experiments show the robustness of the proposed scheme under different conditions. The groundwater horizontal conductivity of the proposed scheme is also calibrated by SCE-UA method and validated by data collected at the Yingsu section in the lower reaches of the Tarim River, which shows that the model can reasonably simulate the water table depths.

Influence of the photon beam position on incident SR intensity at the SXMCD endstation

A small fluctuation of the photon beam position will afect the intensity and polarization characteristics of synchrotron radiation(SR) when it enters an endstation through the related beamline. In this paper, by changing the electron orbit equilibrium position in the vertical direction, we have measured the corresponding changes in the absorption strength of the SR with a gold mesh in diferent chopper aperture positions. It is found that for three aperture positions, the absorption intensity of the gold mesh shows a good Gaussian distribution as the photon beam position moves, while the ratio of the SR intensity passing through the upper and lower apertures shows a monotonous variation. This suggests a new method for estimating the circular polarization degree of SR originating from the bending magnet based on our current measurement.

Impact of the CoFe microstructure etched surface oxidation on Co spin and orbital moment

Patterned ferromagnetic thin film shows promising applications in ultra-high density magnetic storage,magnetoresistive transducer,magnetic random access memory and many other devices.Since the performance of these devices is closely associated with the magnetic properties of the etched patterns,it is necessary to study the effects of freshly etched surface oxidation on the magnetic properties of the patterned microstructures.In the current work,were carried out an X-ray Magnetic Circular Dichroism(XMCD) study on a 50 nm Co 0.9 Fe 0.1 continuous thin film and a related patterned Co 0.9 Fe 0.1 grating structure etched with a 2 μm period.Based on the sum rules,the spin and orbital moments were calculated for these two samples,respectively.The results indicated that the spin and orbital moments of grating structure(1.34μ B and 0.24μ B,respectively) decreased 17.3% compared with the corresponding continuous film(1.62μ B and 0.29μ B,respectively).We proposed that the moment decreasing of the patterned grating structure was mainly caused by the etched surface oxidation during the pattern manufacture process.The oxidation ratio of Co element in the patterned grating structure is 14.4% calculated from X-ray absorption spectroscopy(XAS) measurement.Considering the oxidation ratio,we amend the spin and orbital moment of Co and the amended result is basically in accordance with that of continuous film,demonstrating that the difference of the spin and orbital moments between the sub-micron grating unit and the continuous film is really caused by the oxidation.

Left Multiplication Mappings on Operator Spaces

Let X be a separable infinite dimensional Banach space and B(X) denote its operator algebra,the algebra of all bounded linear operators T : X → X.Define a left multiplication mapping LT : B(X) → B(X) by LT (V ) = T V,V ∈ B(X).We investigate the connections between hypercyclic and chaotic behaviors of the left multiplication mapping LT on B(X) and that of operator T on X.We obtain that LT is SOT-hypercyclic if and only if T satisfies the Hypercyclicity Criterion.If we define chaos on B(X) as SOT-hypercyclicity plus SOT-dense subset of periodic points,we also get that LT is chaotic if and only if T is chaotic in the sense of Devaney.
