RESULTS: The genotype and allele frequencies of SNPs were compared between the cases and the controls. None of the performed analysis showed any statistically significant results. CONCLUSION: Our data suggest a lack of association between rs11614913, rs895819 and rs2910164 and colorectal cancer risk in the Central-European Caucasian population, a population with an extremely high incidence of sporadic colorectal cancer.展开更多

Anatomical structure research done on 26 thymuses of newborn corpses. Research results showed that a significant amount of thymuses consisted of lobes with very thin connective tissues between them. It is observed that the Hassall cells were usually located in the medulla part of the thymus after using the coloring by Van-Gieson’s stain visible clear elastic and collagen fibers. In addition, cell population dynamics in a unit of conditional area of cortical substance thymus lobes in newborns determined.展开更多

Cold is one of these factors. Understanding of the reaction of airways to cold air is very important tool leading to improvement in management of cold induced rhinitis, cold induced asthma, exercise induced asthma, and exacerbation of chronic airway diseases induced by cold exposure. Despite the airways are protected against cold air by powerful heat and moisture exchanging counter current system within the nose, they are still at the risk of onset and development of cold induced symptoms mainly if this mechanism is insufficient, exposed person hyperventilates or is breathing subfreezing air. Some of the mechanisms involved in cold air induced reactions are understood quite well, but some of them are still discussed as they have not been satisfactorily explained, yet. Most discussed mechanisms by which cold air may induce respiratory symptoms include direct cooling and exsiccation of mucosal surface with subsequent hyper-tonicity of superficial fluid layer and interactions between the trigeminal and the vagus nerve at the central level. Molecular background for such a reaction may rely on the presence of thermo sensitive channels, mainly TRPM8, expressed on airway afferent nerves, which initiate response to cold air, giving a rise to autonomic responses like bronchoconstriction, cough, dyspnoea, chest tightness, mucus secretion and mucosal swelling. Identification of targets for cold action in the airway may help to identify potent antagonists which may prevent or reverse cold induced reactions sharing possibility for clinical application.展开更多

NO in the past had been recognized as a molecule relevant to air pollution. In 1980 Furchgott and Zawadzki identified new messenger molecule within the endothelial cells with vasodilating potential and they named it endothelium derived relaxing factor (EDRF). Seven years later the role of NO as a relaxing factor was definitely proven. The fact of gas, being produced by cells, crossing membranes of neighboring cells and having a character of signal brought a brand new insight to the signaling physiology. The breakthrough in the NO history was in 1992, when it was assigned as “molecule of the year”. Role of NO was defined mainly in the cardiovascular sys-tem, but as the research expanded, the ultimate func-tion, and mechanism of action, dual effect of NO had been identified in all systems of human body. NO in low concentrations considerably regulates the physiological functions, but in high concentration may contribute to the pathogenetic process. Knowledge the physiology of NO signaling cascades could have clinical application, mainly considering therapeutic poten-tial of NO donors, or antagonists of NO-synthases. This molecule has undoubtedly huge future potential.展开更多

The injurious effects of O2 on these mitochondrial bioenergitical parameters mentioned above exhibited a dosage- or reaction time-dependent mode. Being a superoxide scavenger, 3, 4-dihydroxylphenyl lactate showed obvious protection effects against damage of both exogenous superoxide sources from xanthine-xanthine oxidase system and endogenous Or展开更多

Most researchers confirm the relationship between the severity of immunobiochemical changes and clinical outcome of acute ischemic stroke. Ischemic stroke is accompanied by aseptic inflammation, which alters the brain tissue and exposes the co-stimulatory molecules of the immune system and the neuronal antigens. To date, BBB is not considered the border between the immune system and central nervous system, and the local immune subsystems are found within and behind the BBB. BBB disruption contributes to the leakage of brain autoantigens and induction of secondary autoimmune response to neuronal antigens and long-term inflammation. Glymphatic system function is altered and jeopardized both in hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke types. The receptors of innate immunity (toll-like receptor-2 and toll-like receptor-4) are also involved in acute ischemia-reperfusion injury. Immune response is related to the key processes of blood clotting and fibrinolysis. At the same time, the stroke-induced immune activation may promote reparation phenomena in the brain. Subsequent research on the reduction of the acute ischemic brain injury through the target regulation of the immune response is promising.展开更多

This paper was to study the relationship of DR with vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) and the retinal vascular pathological change. Methods Fifty-five Wistar rats, weighing 100 -200 g, were selected and randomly divided into four groups: control group (no streptozocin injection, n =10), M1 group (streptozocin induced diabetes for 1 month, n =15), M3 group (streptozocin induced diabetes for 3 months, n =15), and M5 group (streptozocin induced diabetes for 5 months, n =15). In situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry were used to investigate the expressions of bFGF and VEGF on retinal vascular, and retinal vessels were observed by transmission electron microscope. Results There was no difference in the number of pericytes between M1 and control group (P > 0. 05), but the number of pericytes decreased obviously in M3 and M5 groups compared with the control group (P<0. 01, P<0. 001, respectively). Capillary embolization and non-cell capillary were seen in M5 group. Positive expression of VEGF was found in M5 group using in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry respectively. Positive expression of bFGF could be seen in M3(78%) and M5 group (89%). Most remarkable changes of vessles were observed in M5 group including fragmental thickness, split of basement membrane, swelling and distortion of endothelial cells. Conclusions In retinal vascular of the streptozocin (STZ) rats, there shows the expression of bFGF at the third month and that of VEGF at the fifth month.展开更多
