Autonomous vehicle technology will transform fundamentally urban traffic systems.To better enhance the coming era of connected and autonomous vehicles,effective control strategies that interact wisely with these intel...Autonomous vehicle technology will transform fundamentally urban traffic systems.To better enhance the coming era of connected and autonomous vehicles,effective control strategies that interact wisely with these intelligent vehicles for signalized at-grade intersections are indispensable.Vehicle-to-infrastructure communication technology offers unprecedented clues to reduce the delay at signalized intersections by innovative information-based control strategies.This paper proposes a new dynamic control strategy for signalized intersections with vehicle-to-signal information.The proposed strategy is called periodic vehicle holding(PVH)strategy while the traffic signal can provide information for the vehicles that are approaching an intersection.Under preliminary autonomous vehicle(PAV)environment,left-turning and through-moving vehicles will be sorted based on different information they receive.The paper shows how PVH reorganizes traffic to increase the capacity of an intersection without causing severe spillback to the upstream intersection.Results show that PVH can reduce the delay by approximately 15%at a signalized intersection under relatively high traffic demand.展开更多
Innovation is known to be used by some businesses to help them differentiate their trading position within a specific locale.Research has also proven that by adopting a strategy,aims can be achieved and turnover incre...Innovation is known to be used by some businesses to help them differentiate their trading position within a specific locale.Research has also proven that by adopting a strategy,aims can be achieved and turnover increased.This study will endeavour to use these two key areas to evaluate how,they are used and to what extent they can improve business performance.The study was carried using 145 Micro and SME business,located within the rural county of Lincolnshire.The businesses were taken from specific locations on a random basis which included rural,remote rural and urban settings.Initial findings found that businesses situated within remote areas performed better than those within the other test areas,leading to the conclusion that they use innovation as a strategy to outperform their business rivals.展开更多

A survey strategy was adop...This article investigates the extent to which Jordanian service organizations seek to establish continuity culture through testing, training, and updating of their business continuity plans. A survey strategy was adopted in this research. Primary and secondary data were used.Semistructured interviews were conducted with five senior managers from five large Jordanian service organizations registered with the Amman Stock Exchange. The selection of organizations was made on the basis of simple random sampling. Interviews targeted the headquarters only in order to obtain a homogenous sample. Three out of five organizations could be regarded as crisis prepared and have better chances for recovery. The other two organizations exhibited characteristics of standard practice that only emphasizes the recovery aspect of business continuity management(BCM), while paying less attention to establishing resilient cultures and embedding BCM. The findings reveal that the ability to recover following major incidents can be improved by embedding BCM in the culture of the organization and by making BCM an enterprise-wide process. This is one of few meticulous studies that have been undertaken in the Middle East and the first in Jordan to investigate the extent to which service organizations focus on embedding BCM in the organizational culture.展开更多
Many recently proposed subspace clustering methods suffer from two severe problems.First,the algorithms typically scale exponentially with the data dimensionality or the subspace dimensionality of clusters.Second,the ...Many recently proposed subspace clustering methods suffer from two severe problems.First,the algorithms typically scale exponentially with the data dimensionality or the subspace dimensionality of clusters.Second,the clustering results are often sensitive to input parameters.In this paper,a fast algorithm of subspace clustering using attribute clustering is proposed to overcome these limitations.This algorithm first filters out redundant attributes by computing the Gini coef-ficient.To evaluate the correlation of every two non-redundant attributes,the relation matrix of non-redund-ant attributes is constructed based on the relation function of two dimensional united Gini coefficients.After applying an overlapping clustering algorithm on the relation matrix,the candidate of all interesting subspaces is achieved.Finally,all subspace clusters can be derived by clustering on interesting subspaces.Experiments on both synthesis and real datasets show that the new algorithm not only achieves a significant gain of runtime and quality to find subspace clusters,but also is insensitive to input parameters.展开更多
