Pomegranate Rind Extract (PRE) can be applied to cotton fabrics for its natural colours, as a mordanting agent and also for imparting certain functional properties such as fire retardancy and antimicrobial properties. This paper reviews the feasibility of Pomegranate Rind Extract to improve the functional properties of cellulosic fabrics. Studies show that varying concentrations and higher temperatures that were used to apply the extract on the fabric, resulted in enhanced functional properties. At a particular concentration, the treated fabric showed a 15 times lower burning rate in comparison with the control fabric. Also, antimicrobial efficacy has been observed against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Due to the natural colouring material, it can be used as a natural dye on cotton material. The fire retardancy of pomegranate rind extract was tested on jute material under varying alkalinity. Research has indicated that pomegranate rind extract could be used to dye polyamide as well. The rubbing and wash fastness of the finished fabrics is good. The light fastness was fair, and its antibacterial efficiency against tested bacteria was good.展开更多

The results of experimentshow: the knot strength loss does not only depend on the breaking elongation and the diameter ofsample, but also on the shape of the load-extension curve and twist factor of sample and other fac-tors; the range of the knot strength loss and the breaking energy loss vary in a wide range, in thepresent case. the former is from 2.7% to 58.14% and the latter from 16.36% to 78.76%. The samples of Wool/PET blended fibre bundles, the method of fibre-bundle tensile tests and the typical specific stress-extension curves from the fibre bundles with different blend ratios are the same as in Part Ⅰ. It can be found that the theoretical results estimated by the modulus and percentage methods accord with the experimental values highly though the calculations of the two methods are slightly more complex than those of the strength and work methods. Especially, using the modulus method can not only avoid the influence of the error caused by the determination of the tensile curve of no fibre breaking in stretching, Y(e), but also need not to know the tensile curves of mono-component fibre bundles in certain calculation. The latter advantage of the modulus method exists in the percentage method too, but it should adopt the improved calculation of ones.展开更多

The physical andmechanical properties of fibers are also measured. The results show that there is a little differencebetween the macrostructure of two kinds of flax fibers. The count which is an average linear den-sity of single fiber from different parts (root, middle, top of the stem), of the oil flax and that ofthe flax from East-North is 3.28 dtex and 3.29 dtex respectively. The modulus, breaking tenacityand elongation of oil flax are 1835.63 cN / tex, 61.08 cN / tex and 3.62% respectively. Com-paring this data with the data of flax, we find that there exists no appreciable difference.展开更多

A new Ω type cotton ring and traveller is introduced.The idea of its design is based on thefacts that running travellers deviate from normal profile in three coordinate directions and such adeviation can be utilized ...A new Ω type cotton ring and traveller is introduced.The idea of its design is based on thefacts that running travellers deviate from normal profile in three coordinate directions and such adeviation can be utilized when the balloon expands.The contact between ring and traveller at outerrace can be increased to prevent the balloon from expanding and the traveller from continuous in-clination.Consequently,the wear of inner corner of ring can be reduced.This proves the maincourse of deterioration of ring.With small sized balloon,the outer contact diminishes.The yarntension is thus adjusted and average tension is cut down.Experiments on 13 and 29 texcotton-polyester yarn spinning prove the above idea correct.With the wear of ring greatly reduced,running life is more than doubled,end breakage rate falls 30% and power consumption falls 2%.The economic profit,estimated by pilot test,is an increase of production 6.1% and 130,000 YuanRenminbi per ten thousand apindles each year.展开更多

Having regard to the spe-cial construction of rotor spun yarn, some modifications for Hearle’s theory have been made inorder to apply Hearle’ s theory to rotor spun yarn. The paper then goes into calculating thetensile curve and investigating the effect of main parameters and spinning conditions on thetensile behaviour of rotor spun yarn. It was found that the following facts are noteworthy forimproving the mechanical properties of rotor spun yarn: (1) Selecting suitable navel so as tocontrol the P. T. E. length within a reasonable range. (2) Improving the design of single fibresupply device to decrease the amount of spoiled fibre and hence increase the effective fibrelength. (3) Increasing spinning yarn tension without yarn break to enhance the fibre migrationratio. (4) For the rotor spun yarn of industrial use, it is the way to increase the yarn strengththat the rotor groove should be designed with the groove angle beneficial to decrease the yarnspecific volume.展开更多
