The effects of lanthanum (Ⅲ) on the bone resorbing activity of rabbit mature osteoclasts (OCs) in the presence of osteoblasts (OBs) were studied in vitro by measuring the number and area of absorption pits. La( Ⅲ ) at concentrations ranging from 1.00 × 10^-5 to 1.00 × 10^-8 mol·L^-1 show no effect on mature OC number (P 〉 0.05). In the OC-OB coculture systems without La(Ⅲ ), osteoblasts alone did not influence the pit number and area whether the two kinds of cells were in contact or not ( P 〉 0.05). Under the OC-OB not-in-contact condition, the effect of La( Ⅲ ) on the bone-resorbing activity of OCs was similar to that of La(Ⅲ) in the absence of OBs (P 〉 0.05). However, while OCs were in direct contact with OBs, the inhibitory effects of La( Ⅲ ) on OCs' bone-resorbing activity decreased at the concentrations of 1.00 × 10^-5, 1.00×10^-6 and 1.00×10^-7mol·L^-1, and the promotion effects increased at 1.00×10^-8mol·L^-1 (P 〈0.05). The results suggest that direct cell-cell contact between OC and OB be essential for OBs to play their role in regulating the response of OCs to La( Ⅲ ). 展开更多

In this study, sediments in Tanjung Piai... S:Tanjung Piai wetland has now been proclaimed to be a wetland of international importance since 2003. Therefore, its heavy metal pollution status should be known and recorded. In this study, sediments in Tanjung Piai wetland were collected in 2002 and 2005 and were analysed for Cd, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn. For comparison purpose, sediments were also collected for metal analysis from a known polluted site at Kg. Pasir Puteh, four jetties and a river. A comparison with the polluted sediment collected from Kg. Pasir Puteh and the established Sediment Quality Criteria showed that Tanjung Piai was not polluted with Cd, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn. These background concentrations or baseline data of heavy metals in the sediment is important for future reference. Therefore, Tanjung Piai wetland is a suitable site for sanctuary and wetland conservation and it should be conserved for its pristine conditions in order to support its high biodiversity. 展开更多

This study aims to evaluate the potentialities of Pseudocytisus integrifolius (Salisb) Rehder (Brassicaceae) as a botanical insecticide for the protection of stored wheat against two pests of stored grain. The essential oil of Pseudoeytisus integrifolius was tested at different doses on adults of Rhyzopertha dominica Fab. (Bostrychidae) and Sitophilus granarius Linn. (Curculionidae), at a temperature of 28 ~C and a relative humidity of 75%. This oil has insecticidal activity and gives, for the studied adults, a very significant reduction. The essential oil extracted from Pseudocytisus integrifolius is toxic on Rhyzopertha dominica with LDs0 = 2.61 ~tL/30g grain and LDs0 = 3.99 ~L/30g grain for Sitophilus granarius, the chemical composition analysis shows the richness of the essential oil compounds known for their insecticidal properties as dimethyl disulfide (DMDS) and dimethyl trisulfide explains the results. 展开更多

蒙古牧民家庭通过适应当地植被分布的特点来维持牲畜的健康状况。因此,预测未来植被变化对于稳定的牲畜放牧和可持续的草原利用至关重要。本研究基于前期研究获得的植被数据预测了2081年至2100年间草原植被,尤其是沙漠草原、草原和草甸... 蒙古牧民家庭通过适应当地植被分布的特点来维持牲畜的健康状况。因此,预测未来植被变化对于稳定的牲畜放牧和可持续的草原利用至关重要。本研究基于前期研究获得的植被数据预测了2081年至2100年间草原植被,尤其是沙漠草原、草原和草甸草原的分布范围。我们首先基于在蒙古(43–50°N,87–119°E)收集的草原植被数据(2012至2016年,278个样地)划分了不同的群落类型。其次,采用最大熵(MaxEnt)模型进行物种分布建模,其中以荒漠草原、草原和草甸草原的分布数据作为目标变量,使用WorldClim的生物气候数据作为解释变量。最后,采用WorldClim提供的CMIP6下缩放的未来气候预测数据进行未来预测。结果发现,荒漠草原、草原和草甸草原模型的曲线下面积值分别为0.850、0.847和0.873。根据所有情景和所有群落的气候变化,适宜栖息地预计将缩小。潜在适宜区域减少的程度在草甸草原群落中最为显著。上述结果表明,未来气候变化情景下草甸草原群落将转变为草原群落。 展开更多

Recently bacterial cells have become attractive biological templates for the fabrication of metal nano- structures or nanomaterials due to their inherent small size, various standard geometrical shapes and abundant source. In this paper, nickel-coated bacterial cells (gram-negative bacteria of Escherichia coli) were fabricated via electroless chemical plating. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) characterization results reveal evident morphological difference between bacterial cells before and after deposition with nickel. The bare cells with smooth surface presented transverse outspreading effect at mica surface. Great changes took place in surface roughness for those bacterial cells after metallization. A large number of nickel nanoparticles were observed to be equably distributed at bacterial surface after activation and subsequent metallization. Furthermore, ultra thin section analytic results validated the presence and uniformity of thin nickel coating at bacte- rial surface after metallization. 展开更多
