We constructed a volume particle-tracking velocimetry (Volume-PTV) algorithm for comparisons with the tomographic particle image velocimetry (Tomo-PIV) algorithm, in which the multiplicative algebraic reconstruction technique (MART) was adopted. Performance tests on both algorithms were conducted by using artificial images generated through numerical data sets. Standard data on an impinging jet were used to test the Volume-PTV algorithm, whereas ring vortex data were used to test the Tomo-PIV algorithm. The influence of the number of particles (particle density in volume) on the key factors of Volume-PTV, such as particle movements and particle neighborhoods, were investigated. Furthermore, the effects of particle density and sizes onto the recovery ratio of the vectors were evaluated. 展开更多

The shell and tube heat exchanger is an essential part of a power plant for recovering heat transfer between the feed water of a boiler and the wasted heat.The baffles are also an important element inside the heat exchanger.Internal materials influence the flow pattern in the bed.The influence of baffles in the velocity profiles was observed using a three-dimensional particle image velocimetry around baffles in a horizontal circular tube.The velocity of the particles was measured before the baffle and between them in the test tube.Results show that the flows near the front baffle flow were parallel to the vertical wall,and then concentrate on the upper opening of the front baffle.The flows circulate in the front and rear baffles.These flow profiles are related to the Reynolds number(Re) or the flow intensity.The velocity profiles at lower Re number showed a complicated mixing,concentrating on the lower opening of the rear baffle as front wall.Swirling flow was employed in this study,which was produced using tangential velocities at the inlet.At the entrance of the front baffle,the velocity vector profiles with swirl were much different from that without swirl.However,velocities between two baffles are not much different from those without swirl. 展开更多

A measurement technique that can measure the concentration of the solid particles in liquid flow was developed.The measurement system consists of a color camera and three LCD displays.The solid particles were put at the bottom of a cylindrical mixing tank in which JetA1 oil was filled.Transient mixing of the solid particles was performed by rotating a propeller type agitator with three different rotation speed(500,600,700 r/min).Mixing state was visualized by the LCD displays and a color camcorder.The color intensity of the glass particles changes with their concentration.The color information was decoded into three principle colors R,G,and B so that,the calibration curve of color-to-concentration was performed using these information.A neural network was used for this calibration.The transient concentration field of the solid particles was quantitatively visualized. 展开更多

It differs from a true aneurysm in tha... A femoral artery pseudoaneurysm is one complication of vascular intervention, and the incidence is increasing. Early management is then needed to avoid potential dangers from it. It differs from a true aneurysm in that it doesn't include any component of the vascular wall, and is not studied as much as a true aneurysm. Here, a model of a femoral pseudoaneurysm was made and a Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD) simulation was verified with PIV experiment. Afterwards, a CFD simulation with two different models was performed to look for any findings which may help in developing new treatment methods. 展开更多
