One of the goals of the genetic toxicology is to assess the risk to humans that derives from genotoxic agents.The risk involves both somatic and germ cells,with damage to the former resulting in cancer and damage to t...One of the goals of the genetic toxicology is to assess the risk to humans that derives from genotoxic agents.The risk involves both somatic and germ cells,with damage to the former resulting in cancer and damage to the latter in adverse effects that could be transmitted through generations.It is necessary to consider not only direct effects,but also effects that are the result of analtered environment.To perform an accurate risk assessment.it is necessary to evaluate genotoxic hazards in ways that are appropriate both methodologically and strategically.In establishing a genotoxicity assay system,international cooperation is important because it enables us to incorporate the thoughts of specialists everywhere and to learn of specific regional concerns.Here I will introduce the “Guidance on a Strategy for Testing of Chemicals for Mutagenicity” recently reported by the UK Committee on Mutagenicity (COM) and also I will briefly summarize the activities of the International Workshop on Genotoxicity Test Procedures(IWGTP).The first and the second workshops focused on methodology.we started to include the strategic issues as well as procedures in the third workshop.Starting with the 3rd IWGT,the workshop will become an activity of the International Association of EMSs.展开更多
