It also analyzed the judgment criteria for precursory earthquake swarms. Earthquake swarms in Jiangsu Province are concentrated in several areas. Most of them were of magnitude ML2.0~3.9. For most earthquake swarms, the number of earthquakes was less than 30. Time duration for about 55% of earthquake swarms was less than 15 days. The biggest magnitude of one earthquake swarm was not proportional to the number of earthquakes and time duration. There are 78% of earthquake swarms corresponded to the forthcoming earthquakes of M>4.6 in which there're 57% occured in one year, This shows a medium-and short-term criterion. Distance between earthquake swarm and future earthquake was distributed dispersedly. There were no earthquakes occurring in the same location as earthquake swarms. There was no good correlation between the magnitude and the corresponding rate of future earthquakes and the intensity of earthquake swarms. There was also no good correlation between the number of earthquakes in an earthquake swarm and the corresponding rate. The study also shows that it's better to use U-p or whole-combination to determine the type of earthquake swarm.展开更多

The earthquake was an isolated seismic event, before and after which there were no other earthquakes occurred in this region. The dense distribution of geomagnetic observataries provided an advantage condition for the analysis of characteristics of the geomagnetic harmonic amplitude ratios. The analysis results verify the former knowledge of anomaly characteristics of the geomagnetic harmonic amplitude ratio, that is,the anomalous characteristics of the earthquake mostly appeared during the decline-turning-recovery rising process. The results also show that the change of the anomalies was asynchronous at the observatories close to the epicenter, namely, the anomalous characteristics were different between the H and the D components,as well as between the long and short periods.展开更多

By applying the above methods to a time series which is composed of earthquake accumulation energy per year for the world, the Chinese continent and North China, respectively, we obtained some new information about the rhythm of shallow earthquake activity. Considering the historic earthquakes and the rhythm characteristics of current strong earthquake activity, the earthquake tendency in the next years is discussed.展开更多

The results show that: (1) under the normal regional stress field, the quality factors QmsP in the stable tectonic area are higher than that in the active tectonic area around the Weifang-Jiashan section and its surrounding area in the Tanlu fault zone; (2) in the Juxian-Tancheng section the seismic wave attenuation is relatively quick, and the media is relatively broken, suggesting no tectonic stress accumulation; (3) the Xinyi-Sihong section is currently locking and in accumulating elastic strain energy stage, which has the deep environment and conditions of strong earthquake generation similar to those of the 1668 M8.5 Tancheng strong earthquake.展开更多

The result shows that the earthquake is a very complex rupture event. The source rupture initiated at the hypocenter (35.95°N, 90.54°E, focal depth 10 km, by USGS NEIC), and propagated to the west at first. Then, in several minutes to a hundred minutes and over a large spatial range, several rupture growth points emerged in succession at the eastern end and in the central part of the finite fault. And then the source rupture propagated from these rupture growth points successively and, finally, stopped in the area within 50 km to the east of the centroid position (35.80°N, 92.91°E, focal depth 15 km, by Harvard CMT). The entire rupture lasted for 142 s, and the source process could be roughly separated into three stages: The first stage started at the 0 s and ended at the 52 s, lasting for 52 s and releasing approximately 24.4% of the total moment; The sec- ond stage started at the 55 s and ended at the 113 s, lasting for 58 s and releasing approximately 56.5% of the total moment; The third stage started at the 122 s and ended at the 142 s, lasting for 20 s and releasing approximately 19.1% of the total moment. The length of the ruptured fault plane is about 490 km. The maximum width of the ruptured fault plane is about 45 km. The rupture mainly occurred within 30 km in depth under the surface of the Earth. The average static slip in the underground rocky crust is about 1.2 m with the maximum static slip 3.6 m. The average static stress drop is about 5 MPa with the maximum static stress drop 18 MPa. The maximum static slip and the maximum stress drop occurred in an area within 50 km to the east of the centroid position.展开更多

Using 487 pieces of digital oscil- lograms of 19 seismic events recorded by 32 seismologic stations located on Ordos massif and its surroundings, we have calculated the parameter of three-segment geometric attenuation and give the relation of inelastic attenuation Q value with frequency in the crust of Ordos massif, site responses of 32 stations, and source parameters of 19 events by the genetic algorithm. The results indicate that Q value (at 1 Hz) of S-wave in the crust of Ordos massif is much larger than that in the geologically active tectonic region. The site responses of the 32 stations in the high-frequency section do not show clear amplification effect except one or two stations, while in the low-frequency section, there is difference among the stations. The logarithmic value of seismic moment and the magnitude ML of 19 seismic events has a very good linear relationship.展开更多

We find that the frequency-dependent Q in the Jiangsu region is Q( f) = 272. 1·f^(0. 5575). We also use Moya's method to invert the 63 stations' site responses. The results show that the site responses of the 25 stations in Jiangsu are approximately 1 at a range between 1Hz and 20 Hz, which is consistent with their basements on rocks. The response curves of the site responses of the 14 underground stations are similar to each other. Their site responses show an amplification at low frequencies and minimization at high frequencies. The calculation of the Brune model on the waveform data of M_L≥2. 5 earthquakes from Jiangsu Digital Seismic Network between October 2010 and May 2015 in terms of seismic source parameters of 58 seismic waves shows that there are good correlations between seismic magnitude and other source parameters such as seismic moment, source radius and corner frequency, while the correlations between seismic magnitude and stress drop, and stress drop and source radius are not so good.展开更多

Multiple forward scattering and diffraction for the random inhomogeneities along the seismic ray path are the main causes of S-wave envelope broadening,so the phenomenon of S-wave envelope broadening is used to study the inhomogeneity of the medium. The peak delay time of an S-wave,which is defined as the time lag from the direct S-wave onset to the maximum amplitude arrival of its envelope,is accepted to quantify S-wave envelope broadening. 204 small earthquake records in Changbaishan Tianchi volcano were analyzed by the S-wave envelope broadening algorithm. The results show that S-wave envelope broadening in the Changbaishan Tianchi volcano is obvious, and that the peak delay time of S-wave has a positive correlation with the hypocenter distance and frequency of the S-wave. The relationships between the S-wave peak delay time and the hypocenter distance for different frequency bands were obtained using the statistics method. The results are beneficial to the understanding of the S-wave envelope broadening phenomena and the quantitative research on the inhomogeneities of the crust medium in the Changbaishan Tianchi volcano region.展开更多

The paper summarizes the results of studies on location of the earthquake’s macroscopic epicenter, magnitude and co-seismic fracture, with emphasis on the distribution range, type, extent and mechanism of its co-seismic fractures. The research reveals that, (1) the major part of the meizoseismal area of the South Wudu earthquake is located between Wudu and Wenxian in southern Gansu Province. It extends in a NEE direction, its shape is elliptical with the major axis about 70km long and the minor axis 30km. The macroscopic epicenter is located in the vicinity of Baoziba, in the east of the meizoseismal area; (2) three co-seismic fracture belts developed in the meizoseismal area, scattering northeastwards and converging southwestwards; (3) the major fracture belt extends from Baishuijiang at Hanan on the west, to the the bank areas of Bailongjiang river on the east, such as Gushuizi, Toufang and Daoqizi, etc.; (4) the co-seismic fractures consist of earthquake fissure, scarp, bulge, landslide, barrier lake and so on, among which landslides are the most obvious phenomenon; (5) according to the location, geometry and mechanism of the fracture, it is assumed that the co-seismic fracture zone of the South Wudu earthquake is the product of left-lateral strike-slip, associated with a dip-slip in the Hanan-Daoqizi-Maopola fault zone; (6) based on the size of the co-seismic fracture and the observed amount of displacement of the seismogenic fault of the South Wudu earthquake, the magnitude of this event is estimated to be M8.0.展开更多

The test result reveals that there exists a fine linear relation between original records and synthetic records, indicating the anisotropic parameters estimated by synthetic seismogram can reflect and describe the anisotropic characteristics of the given region medium.展开更多

The results also show that the change of the anomalies was asynchronous at the observatories close to the epicenter, namely, the anomalous characteristics were different between the H and the D components,as well as between the long and short periods.

文摘The paper analyzes the variation characteristics of energy fields of seismicity 2.1≤M L ≤4.5 in Jiangsu and its neighboring areas during the period between January 1970 and December 2007.It also analyzes the variations of time "weight" coefficients of the major typical energy fields, using random function theory with seismic energy fields as a space-time random function field based on Empirical Orthogonal Function (EOF) expansion methods. The results show that the expansion accuracy of the first seven typical fields is 0.9244.The strength of seismic energy varies remarkably in different tectonic blocks in the study area.High value areas are in middle and southern Jiangsu, and the south Yellow Sea.The distribution of the typical fields also shows that it is an area that affects most significantly the seismic energy fields of the study region. The time "weight" coefficients of the first six typical fields vary with time, and the amplitude of the variations has strong temporal correlations with moderate-strong earthquakes in the region.
文摘Based on the Morlet complex wavelet transformation, the authors put forward a kind of new method for distinguishing periods of seismic activity and quietude and a new physical thought on the time-dependent wavelet accumulation energy spectrum with periods, the time-frequency distribution of wavelet vibration period spectrum and period-specific wavelet vibration spectrum. By applying the above methods to a time series which is composed of earthquake accumulation energy per year for the world, the Chinese continent and North China, respectively, we obtained some new information about the rhythm of shallow earthquake activity. Considering the historic earthquakes and the rhythm characteristics of current strong earthquake activity, the earthquake tendency in the next years is discussed.

文摘On the condition that the velocity ratio of compressive wave to shear wave is stable during the propagating process of seismic wave, this paper develops an estimation method for medium quality factor based on single station's travel time difference between direct S and P waves and the first period signal of direct P wave. 8 774 high SNR wave data altogether recorded by 75 stations are analyzed. The results show that: (1) under the normal regional stress field, the quality factors QmsP in the stable tectonic area are higher than that in the active tectonic area around the Weifang-Jiashan section and its surrounding area in the Tanlu fault zone; (2) in the Juxian-Tancheng section the seismic wave attenuation is relatively quick, and the media is relatively broken, suggesting no tectonic stress accumulation; (3) the Xinyi-Sihong section is currently locking and in accumulating elastic strain energy stage, which has the deep environment and conditions of strong earthquake generation similar to those of the 1668 M8.5 Tancheng strong earthquake.

文摘Based on digital teleseismic P-wave seismograms recorded by 28 long-period seismograph stations of the global seismic network, source process of the November 14, 2001 western Kunlun Mountain MS=8.1 (MW=7.8) earth- quake is estimated by a new inversion method. The maximum static slip and the maximum stress drop occurred in an area within 50 km to the east of the centroid position.

文摘We presented attenuation characteristics of S waves in the crust of Ordos massif. The logarithmic value of seismic moment and the magnitude ML of 19 seismic events has a very good linear relationship.

文摘This paper gives a report on borehole bulk-strain data recorded at the seismostation Nanton$ in Jiangsu Province from January 1 , 2003 to December 31 , 2008. While the data at Nantong showed much noise possibly due to site instability and no earthquake-related changes, the data at Liuhe showed anomalous changes that began one to several weeks before three earthquakes of magnitude 4.0 to 6.0 at eplcentral distances up to 400 kin.

文摘Based on 49 digital seismograms recorded by 73 seismic stations in the Jiangsu Telemetered Seismic Network, the paper uses Atkinson's method to calculate the inelastic attenuation coefficient of the Jiangsu area. The calculation of the Brune model on the waveform data of M_L≥2. 5 earthquakes from Jiangsu Digital Seismic Network between October 2010 and May 2015 in terms of seismic source parameters of 58 seismic waves shows that there are good correlations between seismic magnitude and other source parameters such as seismic moment, source radius and corner frequency, while the correlations between seismic magnitude and stress drop, and stress drop and source radius are not so good.

文摘High-frequency S-wave seismogram envelopes of microearthquakes broaden with increasing travel distance,a phenomenon known as S-wave envelope broadening. The results are beneficial to the understanding of the S-wave envelope broadening phenomena and the quantitative research on the inhomogeneities of the crust medium in the Changbaishan Tianchi volcano region.

文摘Based on field investigations and indoor systematic research of the 1879 South Wudu M8.0 earthquake conducted in recent years, the magnitude, damage, seismic intensity, co-seismic fracture of the earthquake, as well as its seismogenic tectonics and preparation process, have been studied. The macroscopic epicenter is located in the vicinity of Baoziba, in the east of the meizoseismal area; (2) three co-seismic fracture belts developed in the meizoseismal area, scattering northeastwards and converging southwestwards; (3) the major fracture belt extends from Baishuijiang at Hanan on the west, to the the bank areas of Bailongjiang river on the east, such as Gushuizi, Toufang and Daoqizi, etc.; (4) the co-seismic fractures consist of earthquake fissure, scarp, bulge, landslide, barrier lake and so on, among which landslides are the most obvious phenomenon; (5) according to the location, geometry and mechanism of the fracture, it is assumed that the co-seismic fracture zone of the South Wudu earthquake is the product of left-lateral strike-slip, associated with a dip-slip in the Hanan-Daoqizi-Maopola fault zone; (6) based on the size of the co-seismic fracture and the observed amount of displacement of the seismogenic fault of the South Wudu earthquake, the magnitude of this event is estimated to be M8.0.

文摘Based on the extensive-dilatancy anisotropy theory, the method of synthetic seismogram is used to estimate the anisotropic parameters. The advantages of the method lie in that it avoids the singularity resolution and saves calculation time of computer by using the eigenvalue and eigenvector analytical expressions of Christoffel equation, at the same time, the result is tested by coherence function. The test result reveals that there exists a fine linear relation between original records and synthetic records, indicating the anisotropic parameters estimated by synthetic seismogram can reflect and describe the anisotropic characteristics of the given region medium.
