A letter to the editor constitutes a short communication addressing a range of topics pertinent to the readership of a journal(Dkhar,2018).This format offers several benefits,such as timeliness,accessibility,innovation,and conciseness,thereby serving as an effective means to disseminate cuttingedge scientific ideas.Over the past five years,there has been a considerable increase in the number of letters published,representing the highest growth rate(approximately 20%)observed in the last three decades(Figure 1A).In the field of academic publishing,letters to the editor are typically more concise than typical research papers.

Meeting report of the editorial board meeting for World Journal of Hepatology 2019

The first editorial board meeting of the World Journal of Hepatology(WJH)was held on November 8,2019 at the Side Bar Grille,Sheraton Boston Hotel,Boston,MA,United States.Ruo-Yu Ma,Director of Editorial Office,on behalf of the Baishideng Publishing Group(BPG),organized the meeting with the great help of Professor Ke-Qin Hu,Journal Editor-in-Chief.There were six editorial board members,including two Editors-in-Chief and one administrative director of the editorial office at the meeting,discussing future strategies of the journal’s development.The editorial board provided BPG a number of suggestions in regard to the business plan and quality control of the WJH.Regarding the business aspect,the editorial board suggested that BPG should advertise the WJH at the international Hepatology and Gastroenterology conferences and promote the WJH via social media.On the scientific aspect,the editorial board suggested that the assessment systems for managing the reviewers and the editorial board members are necessary,and that the BPG should make efforts to attract more high-quality manuscript submissions.An additional comment was to continue to foster a scientific culture for the journal.In conclusion,it was noted that these new ideas expressed during the meeting will bring the WJH to the next level.In the future,the BPG and the editorial board will increase communication and collaboration in order to further the development of the WJH.

【正】The past 2013,the fifth year since the commencement of Journal of Arid Land(JAL),witnessed positive progress in all aspects of the journal.Notable achievements have been made under the joint efforts from Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS,the superintending authority of JAL),the editorial board and the editorial staff.

Meeting report of the editorial board meeting for World Journal of Hepatology 2021

The 2021 online editorial board meeting of the World Journal of Hepatology(WJH)was held on January 16,2021.Xiang Li,Director of Production Office on behalf of the Baishideng Publishing Group,organized the meeting.Three Editors-in-Chiefs(EiCs)and 15 Baishideng Publishing Group staff attended the meeting.The meeting goal was to brief EiCs on journal performance and gather ideas for journal development in 2021.In 2020,WJH published 204 articles,a 20%increase compared to 2019,authors were from 32 countries and regions,and the average citation per article was three times.However,attracting high quality original article submissions remains a challenge.The EiCs provided feedback and suggestions centered on four topics:(1)Improve journal quality by building editorial;(2)Improve board engagement by establishing a clear policy and consistent internal communications;(3)Improve peer review quality and efficiency;and(4)Refine the current journal marketing strategy to increase visibility and discoverability.

Meeting of China's Mainland members of the Fourth Editorial Board of Journal of Natural Gas Chemistry held in Nanjing

In the occasion of the 14th National Symposium of Catalysis of China, a meeting of the China's Mainland members of the fourth Editorial Board of Journal of Natural Gas Chemistry （JNGC） was held in Nanjing on October 17, 2008. Xinhe Bao, Editor-in-Chief of JNGC, Liwu Lin, Member of the Consultant Board of JNGC, and other China's Mainland members of the Editorial Board Can Li, Huilin Wan, Wei Chu, Shuanshi Fan, Yuan Kou, Dezheng Wang, Ye Wang, Xiaoming Zheng, Xiaoping Zhou, and Fengshou Xiao attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Xinhe Bao.

Mental stress, atheroma, myocardial ischaemia and injury: the link is inflammation

Increasing observational and experimental trial data have shownthat mental stress can lead toan increase in adverse clinical cardiovascular events.Mental stress affects the heart by inducing ischaemia and precipitating myocardial infarction(MI)or direct myocardial injury.Mental stress leads to systemic inflammation.Inflammation is known to cause rapid atheromatous plaque progression,instability and thrombosis—the classic type 1 MI.Inflammation can also lead to type 2 MI or myocarditis and injury.The published data linking systemic inflammation,mental stress and cardiovascular disease will be reviewed to establish the linkage between mind and heart,thereby highlighting the importance of holistically managing the patient,not only addressing separate organ systems.Finally,recent trial evidence showing the value of anti-inflammatory drugs in cardiovascular and mental conditions will be briefly considered.

Potential mechanisms of non-suicidal self-injury(NSSI)in major depressive disorder:a systematic review

Background Non-suicidal self-injury(NSSI)is a frequent and prominent phenomenon in major depressive disorder(MDD).Even though its prevalence and risk factors are relatively well understood,the potential mechanisms of NSSI in MDD remain elusive.Aims To review present evidence related to the potential mechanisms of NSSI in MDD.Methods According to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses 2020 guidelines,articles for this systematic review were searched on Medline(through PubMed),Embase(through Elsevier),PsycINFO(through OVID)and Web of Science databases for English articles,as well as China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI),SinoMed,Wanfang Data,and the Chongqing VIP Chinese Science and Technology Periodical(VIP)Databases for Chinese articles published from the date of inception to 2 August 2022.Two researchers(BW,HZ)independently screened studies based on inclusion and exclusion criteria and assessed their quality.Results A total of 25157 studies were searched.Only 25 of them were ultimately included,containing 3336 subjects(1535 patients with MDD and NSSI,1403 patients with MDD without NSSI and 398 HCs).Included studies were divided into 6 categories:psychosocial factors(11 studies),neuroimaging(8 studies),stress and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal(HPA)axis(2 studies),pain perception(1 study),electroencephalogram(EEG)(2 studies)and epigenetics(1 study).Conclusions This systematic review indicates that patients with MDD and NSSI might have specific psychosocial factors,aberrant brain functions and neurochemical metabolisms,HPA axis dysfunctions,abnormal pain perceptions and epigenetic alterations.

Review of advanced road materials, structures, equipment, and detection technologies

As a vital and integral component of transportation infrastructure,pavement has a direct and tangible impact on socio-economic sustainability.In recent years,an influx of groundbreaking and state-of-the-art materials,structures,equipment,and detection technologies related to road engineering have continually and progressively emerged,reshaping the landscape of pavement systems.There is a pressing and growing need for a timely summarization of the current research status and a clear identification of future research directions in these advanced and evolving technologies.Therefore,Journal of Road Engineering has undertaken the significant initiative of introducing a comprehensive review paper with the overarching theme of“advanced road materials,structures,equipment,and detection technologies”.This extensive and insightful review meticulously gathers and synthesizes research findings from 39 distinguished scholars,all of whom are affiliated with 19 renowned universities or research institutions specializing in the diverse and multidimensional field of highway engineering.It covers the current state and anticipates future development directions in the four major and interconnected domains of road engineering:advanced road materials,advanced road structures and performance evaluation,advanced road construction equipment and technology,and advanced road detection and assessment technologies.

One Health practice in Hainan,China

The devastating COVID-19 pandemic over the past three years has made One Health a trending philosophy not only as a regional and national initiative but also as transboundary efforts calling for multilateral cooperations.Mwatondo et al.presented One Health Networks in a recent article published in The Lancet,calling for further promotion of the One Health approach[1].Likewise,recent studies in developing countries described the rapid adoption of One Health concepts globally and the major advances in practice of One Health in the past two decades[2-4].In this perspective,we highlight a pilot One Health program China spearheaded by the World Bank and the provincial government of Hainan.This pilot program aims to boost our awareness of preventing and combating emerging infectious diseases using the One Health approach[5].

Prognostics and Remaining Useful Life Prediction of Machinery:Advances,Opportunities,and Challenges

As the fundamental and key technique to ensure the safe and reliable operation of vital systems,prognostics with an emphasis on the remaining useful life(RUL)prediction has attracted great attention in the last decades.In this paper,we briefly discuss the general idea and advances of various prognostics and RUL prediction methods for machinery,mainly including data-driven methods,physics-based methods,hybrid methods,etc.Based on the observations fromthe state of the art,we provide comprehensive discussions on the possible opportunities and challenges of prognostics and RUL prediction of machinery so as to steer the future development.

Prevalence and risk factors of postpartum depression in a populationbased sample of women in Tangxia Community,Guangzhou

Objective:To investigate the prevalence and analyze the risk factors of postpartum depression(PPD)in Tangxia Community.Guangzhou,a community representative of the process of urbanization in China.Methods:A total of 1 823 delivery women in Tangxia Community.Guangzhou were screened with the Chinese Version of Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale,Hamilton Depression Scale and Social Support Rating Scale.The risk factors were evaluated by self-made questionnaire based on literature interview combined with expert consultation.The data collected were analyzed using Student's t test and logistic regression in SPSS16.0.Results:The prevalence of PPD in Tangxia Community,Guangzhou was 27.37%.Mutivariant logistic regression analysis identified mode of delivery,puerperanl from one-child family,relationship between mother-in-law atul daughter-in-law and fetus gender as the risk factors of PPD while housing condition was negatively correlated with the incidence of PPD with OR value of 0.82.The the total score of social support rating scale,the score of objective support,subjective support and social utilization degree were significantly reduced in women with PPD in contrast with women without PPD.Conclusions:The incidence of PPD was slightly higher than other regions of China.It's of great importance to distinguish risk factors in regional culture context and develop health promotion program in order to enhance the well-being of delivery women.

Epidemiology, genetics and treatments for myopia

Myopia is a significant public health problem and its prevalence is increasing over time and genetic factors in disease development are important. The prevalence and incidence of myopia within sampled population often varies with age, country, sec race, ethnicity, occupation, environment, and other factors. Myopia growth is under a combination of genes and their products in time and space to complete the coordination role of the guidance. Myopia-related genes include about 70 genetic loci to which primary myopias have been mapped, although the number is constantly increasing and depends to some extent on definition. Of these, several are associated with additional abnormalities, mostly as part of developmental syndromes. These tend to result from mutations in genes encoding transcriptional activators, and most of these have been identified by sequencing candidate genes in patients with developmental anomalies. Currently, collagen alpha-1 chain of type I(COL1A1), collagen alpha-1 chain of type II(COL2A1), actin, alpha, cardiac muscle 1 (ACTC1), paired box gene 6 (PAX6) and NIPBL (nipped-B homolog), and so on have been mapped. Myopia is most commonly treated with spectacles or glasses. The most common surgical procedure performed to correct myopia is laser keratomileusis (LASIK). This review of the recent advances on epidemiology, genetic locations and treatments of myopia are summarized.
