Foreign language education involves not only language education but also cultural education.It is the new mission of today’s foreign language education to integrate Chinese traditional culture into foreign language teaching and cultivate foreign language talents who can tell Chinese stories well and spread Chinese voice.As a basic course for English majors,English Listening and Speaking faces many challenges when it is integrated into Chinese traditional culture,such as complex teaching content,limited teaching resources,insufficient teachers’literacy,and students’listening and speaking difficulties.In order to solve these problems,teachers and universities should work together to sort out the connotation of Chinese traditional culture,develop audio-visual teaching materials,organize teacher training,and innovate teaching methods,so as to effectively promote the connection between Chinese traditional culture and English Listening and Speaking curriculum system. 展开更多

As a special type ofconversation, news interview, its special turn-taking organization founds the basic conversation pattern. This paper tries to explore something hidden behind people turn-taking, i.e., the influence of power, ideology on language use except the cooperation. The researches showed the IR and IE obey the rules of turn-taking system under the Q-A format. In the news interview, the disagreement between interviewees is direct and usually ended by the interviewer with institutional power. And in the process, the influence of the power and ideology on the turn-taking is reflected clearly: The IR with the institutional role, he or she can interrupt or insert their turn-taking to control, direct the talk as intended plan. 展开更多

This paper is a generic study of schematic structures and the use of modal verbs of 50 English Research Article (RA) abstracts. With Bhatia's (1990) model as the framework, three other move patterns were obtained besides the normal move order. The density of modal verbs varies greatly from move to move with significant differences in the frequency of occurrence in different moves. Presently, with the higher requirements of maritime education and training, the development of maritime visual-audio-lingual course books are lagging behind, in that the contents are outdated, dull and away from the actual practice. They can by no means reflect the production of ocean transportation and run counter to the principles of language communication, resulting in a severe lap in the aspects of contents, quality and formation. Maritime visual-audio-lingual teaching belongs to ESP and its contents should give prominence to practice and operation, such as, instruments, equipment, machinery and principles; operation, entering and leaving ports, loading and discharging of cargo, navigation and communication, berthing and unberting, heaving anchor, etc. Many scenes and processes are not to be demonstrated by verbal means and normal methods of teaching. Therefore, a set of course book that reflects the real operational situations is of great need and one that adopts the multi-media means in visual-audio-lingual teaching is of enormous and irreplaceable privilege, in that a highly qualified visual-audio-lingual course book will provide real, clear-cut and understandable working situations, so that students will be on-scene and impressed. This paper briefly discusses the existing problems in current teaching and learning in senior English reading class. It highly stresses that the constructivist-based reading teaching is an effective way to solve these problems. The following contents are also explored: the main constructivist reading teaching methods in FLT abroad, the constructivist views of teaching, learning and reading, and the current research on English reading teaching based on constructivism in China. The key part of the study is that some constructivism-based reading teaching activities suitable to the local environments for senior English reading instruction are designed and applied to the practical senior English reading classroom. In order to test the effectiveness of the application of the constructivist reading teaching activities, half a year's careful experiment was conducted. The results of the research revealed that: The application of the constructivist-based reading teaching activities into senior English reading class is workable, feasible and efficient. It could help to improve senior 3 middle school students' reading proficiency, to promote their employment of reading strategies, as well as their attitudes towards reading class. 展开更多

The experimental study has lasted for half a year. Finally, from the experiment it can prove that the autonomous-cooperative teaching and learning model is feasible for English teaching and learning in large English classes in Higher Vocational College.
