Challenges and Countermeasures in Integrating Chinese Traditional Culture into English Listening and Speaking Course

Foreign language education involves not only language education but also cultural education.It is the new mission of today’s foreign language education to integrate Chinese traditional culture into foreign language teaching and cultivate foreign language talents who can tell Chinese stories well and spread Chinese voice.As a basic course for English majors,English Listening and Speaking faces many challenges when it is integrated into Chinese traditional culture,such as complex teaching content,limited teaching resources,insufficient teachers’literacy,and students’listening and speaking difficulties.In order to solve these problems,teachers and universities should work together to sort out the connotation of Chinese traditional culture,develop audio-visual teaching materials,organize teacher training,and innovate teaching methods,so as to effectively promote the connection between Chinese traditional culture and English Listening and Speaking curriculum system.

The Application of Analytic Hierarchy Process Method in the Evaluation of Educational Quality in Colleges and Universities

Talent quality is the lifeline of colleges and universities.Based on employment guidance,this paper establishes a student quality evaluation and control system including knowledge,moral character,and ability,and uses the Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP)method to analyze the factors affecting the quality of education in colleges and universities.In addition,some suggestions are provided to improve the quality of students.

Critical analysis on turn-taking organization in English news interview in China

As a special type ofconversation, news interview, its special turn-taking organization founds the basic conversation pattern. This paper tries to explore something hidden behind people turn-taking, i.e., the influence of power, ideology on language use except the cooperation. The researches showed the IR and IE obey the rules of turn-taking system under the Q-A format. In the news interview, the disagreement between interviewees is direct and usually ended by the interviewer with institutional power. And in the process, the influence of the power and ideology on the turn-taking is reflected clearly： The IR with the institutional role, he or she can interrupt or insert their turn-taking to control, direct the talk as intended plan.

A generic analysis of English Research Article abstracts and the use of modal verbs for financial economics

This paper is a generic study of schematic structures and the use of modal verbs of 50 English Research Article （RA） abstracts. With Bhatia＇s （1990） model as the framework, three other move patterns were obtained besides the normal move order. The density of modal verbs varies greatly from move to move with significant differences in the frequency of occurrence in different moves. The use of modal verbs is much more move-determined than discipline-determined.

Language and culture are closely related to each other. Euphemisms, which exist in all languages, reflect certain culture from which the language derives. Paying special attention to cross cultural communication, this paper discusses the relationship between euphemism and culture. Pointing out the necessity of learning and teaching euphemisms, the author also proposes some suggestions on how to teach euphemism.

On the Development of a Maritime English Visual-Audio-Lingual Course Book

Presently, with the higher requirements of maritime education and training, the development of maritime visual-audio-lingual course books are lagging behind, in that the contents are outdated, dull and away from the actual practice. They can by no means reflect the production of ocean transportation and run counter to the principles of language communication, resulting in a severe lap in the aspects of contents, quality and formation. Maritime visual-audio-lingual teaching belongs to ESP and its contents should give prominence to practice and operation, such as, instruments, equipment, machinery and principles; operation, entering and leaving ports, loading and discharging of cargo, navigation and communication, berthing and unberting, heaving anchor, etc. Many scenes and processes are not to be demonstrated by verbal means and normal methods of teaching. Therefore, a set of course book that reflects the real operational situations is of great need and one that adopts the multi-media means in visual-audio-lingual teaching is of enormous and irreplaceable privilege, in that a highly qualified visual-audio-lingual course book will provide real, clear-cut and understandable working situations, so that students will be on-scene and impressed. It will not only improve the students＇ attention and learning interest, hut also help learn practical English in real environment.

Experimental research on application of constructivist theory to senior middle school students＇ English reading

This paper briefly discusses the existing problems in current teaching and learning in senior English reading class. It highly stresses that the constructivist-based reading teaching is an effective way to solve these problems. The following contents are also explored： the main constructivist reading teaching methods in FLT abroad, the constructivist views of teaching, learning and reading, and the current research on English reading teaching based on constructivism in China. The key part of the study is that some constructivism-based reading teaching activities suitable to the local environments for senior English reading instruction are designed and applied to the practical senior English reading classroom. In order to test the effectiveness of the application of the constructivist reading teaching activities, half a year＇s careful experiment was conducted. The results of the research revealed that： The application of the constructivist-based reading teaching activities into senior English reading class is workable, feasible and efficient. It could help to improve senior 3 middle school students＇ reading proficiency, to promote their employment of reading strategies, as well as their attitudes towards reading class.

On the Principles for Compiling Maritime English Textbooks

With the development of maritime English teaching, there is a greater demand of high quality maritime English textbooks. This is a reflection of the diversification of new generation maritime English textbooks. But it also brings forth the principles for the textbook compilation. Maritime English textbook construction should adhere to the principle of the cultivation in students＇ listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation and incorporate the linguistic theories, teaching concepts and the understanding of classroom teaching and students＇ learning, so that the students will continue to improve their English levels in the process of learning the special knowledge. Therefore, the problem we faced with is to make the scientific and rational principles and compile textbooks that suit the practice of maritime English teaching and learning.

Application Skills of Business English in International Economic and Trade Negotiations

In international economic and trade negotiations, business English communication skills are extremely important and an important factor affecting the success of negotiations. Based on this, the meaning and characteristics of business English and its role in international trade were elaborated in this study, and the obstacles of business English communication skills in international trade negotiations were deeply studied, then optimization strategies for the current problems were put forward, aiming at providing some theoretical reference for the development of foreign economic and trade in China.

Comparative study of notional passive in English and Chinese

This thesis is intended to give a contrastive study of the notional passive in English and Chinese, not merely analyzing the relationship between notional passive and passive voice, but summarizing the features and status of the notional passives in English and Chinese, with an aim to cast some light on the main differences between English and Chinese concerning passive, and giving some insights to better understanding and bilingual transference between English and Chinese where the notional passive is involved.

A comparative study and its application of negative constructions in the translation of English and Chinese

This paper gives a detailed analysis of the means of negation and of some idiomatic negative expressions in English. The paper, based on translation studies, conducts a contrastive and comparative study of negation in English and Chinese and tries to find similarities and dissimilarities, aimed at illuminating the problem and highlighting common errors in the translating of negation in English.

Lexical approach to college English teaching

This paper discusses the lexical approach in college English teaching and learning. The lexical approach can help students learn to use English in an idiomatic way rather than in a Chinese way which may cause misunderstanding or confusion of native English speakers. As for the college English Teaching in China, the lexical approach works better than the traditional word-based teaching and learning. It can help students to learn ＂real＂ or ＂authentic＂ English and improve the students＇ ability to use English in all-around way.

Utilizing Wen Juanxing in College English Classes in China

This paper aims to explore the benefits of Technology-Enhanced Learning(TEL)to better engage undergraduate students in college English classes in China.By experimenting with Wen Juanxing,an online questionnaire platform,it has been found that through the employment of“Classroom Response Systems”(hereafter CRS)such as Wen Juanxing(hereaftter WJX),college students’classroom participation and interaction can be significantly increased.Their learning outcome and efficiency can also be greatly improved.

A Study on the Effectiveness of Autonomous-Cooperative Teaching and Learning Model Based on large -class English Teaching in Higher Vocational College

This paper just focuses on introducing the new model and testing its effectiveness in teaching English. Within this new model, both in-class learning and out-of-class learning are emphasized. In this paper, an experimental study is conducted upon non-English majors to test the effectiveness of autonomous-cooperative teaching and learning model for college English teaching (CET). The experimental study has lasted for half a year. Finally, from the experiment it can prove that the autonomous-cooperative teaching and learning model is feasible for English teaching and learning in large English classes in Higher Vocational College. It can improve English Teaching of Higher Vocational College and the students in the EG would surpass those in the CG in the performance of English learning.

Guidance of CET Translation Test for College English Teaching Reform

English teaching reform are launched nationwide, involving curriculum, classroom teaching as well as many other aspects of language proficiency test. Its purpose is to change the past neglect of English proficiency training. Newly created translation project in CET will play a huge role in promoting direction on the teaching reform and further clarify the core teaching reform.
