In this work,the thermal degradation and drying of bio-hardeners are investigated.Four bio-hardeners based on exudates of Senegalia senegal,Vachellia nilotica,Vachellia seyal,and Acacia siebteriana were analyzed by FT...In this work,the thermal degradation and drying of bio-hardeners are investigated.Four bio-hardeners based on exudates of Senegalia senegal,Vachellia nilotica,Vachellia seyal,and Acacia siebteriana were analyzed by FTIR and thermogravimetric analysis,and a desorption study was also conducted.The analysis by infrared spectroscopy indicates the existence of oligomers of different types all giving 5-hydroxy-2-hydroxymethylfuran and 2,5-dihydroxymethylfuran which are then the real hardening molecules.The pyrolysis of these extracts reveals three main regions of mass loss,a first region is located between 25℃and 110℃reflecting the loss of water from the adhesive and the formation of some traces of volatile organic compounds such as CO_(2)and CO,a second zone characterized by the release of CO,CO_(2)and CH4 gases with peaks between 110°and 798.8℃.At the end of the analysis,about 22%of the initial mass remains undecomposed,this mass corresponds to the rigid segments of the bio-hardener which are not completely decomposed.展开更多

Cowpea is one of the most important legume grains in the sub-Saharan region of Africa used for human consumption and animal feed,but its production is hampered by biotic and abiotic constraints raising the need to bro...Cowpea is one of the most important legume grains in the sub-Saharan region of Africa used for human consumption and animal feed,but its production is hampered by biotic and abiotic constraints raising the need to broaden its genetic basis.For this purpose,seeds of two cowpea varieties Melakh and Yacine were irradiated with 300 and 340 Gy of gamma-ray,respectively.The developed mutant populations were agromorphologically characterized from M5 to M7,while the genetic diversity of the latter was evaluated using 13 ISSR markers.Based on the agromorphological characterization,variation of flower color,pod length,seed coat color,and seed weight with 78.01,68.29,94.48,and 57.58%heritability,respectively,were recorded in the mutant lines.PCA analyses allowed to identify the elite mutants based on their agromorphological traits,while Pearson’s correlation results revealed a positive correlation between yield and yield component traits.Three subpopulations were identified through STRUCTURE analyses,but the assignment of the individuals in each group was improved using DAPC(Discriminant Analysis of Principal Components)analysis.Analysis of Molecular Variance revealed that the majority(85%)of the variance rather existed within groups than among(15%)groups.Finally,our study allowed us to select new promising mutant genotypes that could be tested for multi-locational trials to evaluate their agronomic performance.展开更多
Furfurylation is a well-known wood modification technology.This paper studied the effect of tannin addition on the wood furfurylation.Three kinds of dicarboxylic acids,adipic acid,succinic acid,and tartaric acid,as we...Furfurylation is a well-known wood modification technology.This paper studied the effect of tannin addition on the wood furfurylation.Three kinds of dicarboxylic acids,adipic acid,succinic acid,and tartaric acid,as well as glyoxal as a comparing agent,were used to catalyse the polymerisation of furanic or tannin-furanic solutions during wood modification.Impregnation of furanic or tannin-furanic solution at a certain concentration into the wood followed with curing at 103℃for a specific duration was performed for the wood modification.Different properties of the modified woods like dimensional stability,resistance of treatment to leaching,mechanical properties,decay durability against white-rot(Coriolus versicolor,Pycnoporus sanguineus)and brown-rot(Coniophora puteana)as well as their chemical and anatomical characteristics were evaluated.Results revealed that the partial substitution of FA by the tannins improved the fixation of the chemicals impregnated in wood.Further,dimensional stability,leaching resistance,Brinell hardness,modulus of elasticity/modulus of rupture,and decay durability properties of the furfurylated wood were also improved in the presence of tannins.Scanning electron microscopy revealed the deposition of the polymer in the wood lumen cells and in the wood cell walls.展开更多
