Line integral convolution(LIC)is a useful visualization technique for a vector field. However, the output image produced by LIC has many problems in a marine vector field. We focus on the visual quality improvement when LIC is applied in the ocean steady and unsteady flow field in the following aspects. When a white noise is used as the input in a steady flow field, interpolation is used to turn the discrete white noise into continuous white noise to solve the problem of discontinuity.The"cross"high-pass filtering is used to enhance the textures of streamlines to be more concentrated and continuity strengthened for each streamline. When a sparse noise is used as the input in a steady flow field,we change the directions of background sparse noise according to the directions of vector field to make the streamlines clearer and brighter. In addition,we provide a random initial phase for every streamline to avoid the pulsation effect during animation. The velocities of vector field are encoded in the speed of the same length streamlines so that the running speed of streamlines can express flow rate.Meanwhile,to solve the problem of obvious boundaries when stitching image,we change the streamline tracking constraints. When a white noise is used as an input in an unsteady flow field, double value scattering is used to enhance the contrast of streamlines;moreover,the"cross"high-pass filtering is also adopt instead of two-dimensional high-pass filtering. Finally,we apply the above methods to a case of the surface wave field in typhoon condition. Our experimental results show that applying the methods can generate high-quality wave images and animations. Therefore,it is helpful to understand and study waves in typhoon condition to avoid the potential harm of the waves to people's lives and property. 展开更多

The emulsification of crude oil is caused by the oil flowing into the water, resulting in the increase of oil film tension, viscosity, water content, and volume, which brings great harm to the marine ecological environment and difficulties for the cleanup of marine emergency equipment. The realization observation of emulsification crude oil will increase the response speed of marine emergency response. Therefore,we set up crude oil emulsification samples to study the physical property in laboratory and conducted radar measurements at different incidence angles in outdoor. The radar is C band in resolution of 0.7 m by 0.7 m.A fully polarimetric scatterometer(HH,VV,and VH/HV)is mounted at 1.66 m(minimum altitude)height at an incidence angle between 35°and 60°.An asphalt content of less than 3%crude oil and the filtered seawater were used to the outdoor emulsification scattering experiment. The measurement results are as follows. The water content can be used to describe the process of emulsification and it is easy to measure.Wind speed, asphalt content, seawater temperature, and photo-oxidation affect the emulsifying process of crude oil,and affects the normalized radar cross section(NRCS)of oil film but wind is not the dominant factor. It is the first time to find that the emulsification of crude oil results in an increase of NRCS. 展开更多

The genome of green microalgae has rarely been reported.Ulva prolifera is a green microalga that has received much attention.Despite research articles about U.prolifera in recent years,we know very little about its genome. Therefore, the 87.9-Mb haploid genome(containing 10311 protein-coding genes)of U.prolifera was studied, and the genome was compared with that of U.mutabilis, which is the only published Ulva species. Results showed that the two species are closely related.A phylogenetic tree was constructed among U.prolifera and other green algae available in GenBank, revealing the evolutionary status of U.prolifera in Chlorophyta. To understand why U.prolifera could grow rapidly,we identified some genes related to growth, such as those involved in cell division, phosphorylation, and cell proliferation. In addition, genes related to stress resistance were found, which supports the notion that U.prolifera grows vigorously in nature. These results help to characterize green tides from a new perspective and reveal some important insight into the biology of U.prolifera. 展开更多

The spatial-temporal characteristics of the barotropic tides and internal tides(ITs) northeast of Taiwan Island are examined, based on a 1-year mooring current observations from May 23, 2017 to May 19, 2018. The results of harmonic tidal analysis show that the barotropic tides are dominated by semidiurnal tides, which is mainly controlled by M2 tidal components. Moreover, the vertical structures of diurnal and semidiurnal ITs show that the semidiurnal IT shows notable seasonal variation, whereas seasonal variations of the diurnal IT energy is not significant. The semidiurnal IT energy in winter half year is twice that in summer half year. The seasonal variation of semidiurnal IT is mainly modulated by the direction change of the current rather than by the topographic features and stratification. In summer(winter) half year cyclonic(anti-cyclonic) eddies meanly control at this point, so the flow direction is mainly in the southwest(northeast) direction, causing the background flow to flow along(perpendicular to) the isobath. When crossing the isobath, the ITs are generated by the interaction of the barotropic tide and the topography, resulting in the increase of the tidal energy in the winter half year. 展开更多

As concluded from physical theory and laboratory experiment,it is widely accepted that nonlinearities of sea state play an important role in the formation of rogue waves;however, the sea states and corresponding nonlinearities of real-world rogue wave events remain poorly understood.Three rogue waves were recorded by a directional buoy located in the East China Sea during Typhoon Trami in August 2013.This study used the WAVEWATCHⅢmodel to simulate the sea state conditions pertaining to when and where those rogue waves were observed, based on which a comprehensive and full-scale analysis was performed. From the perspectives of wind and wave fields, wave system tracking,High-Order Spectral method simulation, and some characteristic sea state parameters,we concluded that the rogue waves occurred in sea states dominated by second-order nonlinearities.Moreover,third-order modulational instabilities were suppressed in these events because of the developed or fully developed sea state determined by the typhoon wave system. The method adopted in this study can provide comprehensive and full-scale analysis of rogue waves in the real world. The case studied in this paper is not considered unique, and rules could be found and confirmed in relation to other typhoon sea states through the application of our proposed method. 展开更多
