Cultivating Students' Cultural Awareness in Foreign Language Teaching

Many foreign language teachers are often wondering why their students cannot avoid some mistakes in their writing assignment and oral presentations though the grammatical rules and phrases are quite familiar to them. On the other hand students also complain about the boredom of learning English."What is the use of learning English besides taking exams?"they often ask. In this paper the author is going to discuss language learning and teaching from the cultural perspective. By discussing the importance of culture teaching, the author intends to help both the teachers and the students to get out of their bewilderment. Some useful suggestions will be shared at the end of the paper, aiming to offer some practical and concrete guidance to both the students and my co-workers.

Analysis on Refugee Crisis and Language Planning

From the perspective of language ideology,this paper probes into the differences among the language and religious belief and polyfunctionality of language,such as communication,job-bunting,education,identity and integration,so as to analyze the motivations in language planning.Based on the discussion and a case study of European Union,it is assumed that the refugee importing countries should take effective and sustainable measures like conducting language needs investigation and analysis,as well as developing appropriate language policies for refugees.

Analysis of Thai Chinese Businessmen’s Identification With China in the Context of Maritime Silk Road Development-Take a Cover Interview of@ManGu Bangkok,a Mainstream Chinese Language Magazine in Thailand as an Example

Thai Chinese businessmen are important practitioners and supporters of China’s construction of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road,serving as important trendsetters among ASEAN countries with great significance.In this context,this paper analyses and presents the image of Thai Chinese businessmen and their identification with China under the framework of the report and discourse by taking the cover interview of the Chinese mainstream magazine@ManGu Bangkok in Thailand as an example,to show the sentiment and sense of belonging of overseas Chinese to their ancestral homeland,and to provide an emotional“link”for China and ASEAN countries in the mutually beneficial cooperation.

Analysis on the Shift of Personal Pronoun in the Chinese Language——in Terms of Cooperative Principle and Politeness Principle

Personal pronoun shift is a common phenomenon that by using second or third personal pronoun,the speaker means first personal pronoun;or speaker means second personal pronoun but uses first or third personal pronoun instead.Since the phe nomenon frequently appears in the Chinese language,a great number of linguists have studied the personal pronoun and the inter pretation of their usage.However,the study for the causes of the phenomenon is not so systemic.This paper aims to explain the personal pronoun shift from the perspective of Cooperative Principle and Politeness Principle,which can help to discover the rela tionship between Cooperative principle and politeness in the shift of personal pronoun.

Quantitative Relationship Between Multi-Angle Polarized Reflectance and BRDF of Rock

The traditional remote sensing mainly detects the ground vertically to obtain the 2D information but it is hard to get adequate parameters for the quantitative remote sensing to invert land features. The multi-angle observation can get more detailed and reliable 3D structural parameters of targets, so it makes the quantitative remote sensing applicable. During the process of reflecting, scattering and transmitting the electromagnetic wave, minerals and rocks could reveal the polarized features related to the nature of themselves. Therefore, it has become a new approach of quantitative remote sensing to detect multi-angle polarized information of minerals and rocks. In respect that the polarized reflectance always goes with the bidirectional one, we can obtain the 3D spatial distribution of targets by a polarized means together with detecting its bi-directional reflectance. From the perspective of multi-angle polarized remote sensing mechanism, the quantitative relationship between multi-angle polarized reflectance and the BRDF is studied in this paper. And it is testified that the bi-directional reflectance, polarized reflectance of 45° and the mean value of polarized reflectance are equal to that of the corresponding azimuth angle, zenith angle, detection angle and detection channels in 27t space by experiment.

Economic and cultural globalization has strong impacts on the culture of each country.How to maintain the integrity of the local culture in the course of globalization and how to develop on the basis of the inheritance and innovation are the questions worthy of being studied.This paper firstly expounds the important meaning of cultural subjectivity in the view of cultural self-confidence,then explores the roots for the loss of cultural subjectivity consciousness and finally indicates the strategies of cultivating cultural subjectivity.Cultivating cultural subjectivity is an effective way to maintain the integrity of the local culture and the cultural self-confidence.

Mei symmetry and new conserved quantities of Tzénoff equations for higher-order nonholonomic system

In this paper,the Mei symmetry of Tzénoff equations for the higher-order nonholonomic system and the new conserved quantities derived from that are researched,and the function expression of new conserved quantities and criterion equation which deduces these conserved quantities are presented.This result establishes the theory basis for further researches on conservation laws of Tzénoff equations of the higher-order nonholonomic constraint system.

On the Chinese-Western Cultural Conflict in the Cross-cultural Communication

In the context of globalization,the cross-cultural communication between China and the West have become more and more popular.People of different cultural backgrounds must meet the following conditions before they have effective communication with one another.Besides having agood command of foreign languages,they need to understand foreign culture,experience and know the differences between the native culture and the foreign culture.However,because of historical traditions and different cultural backgrounds,the Chinese and westerners differ greatly in social value,mode of thinking and code of conduct,which results in the emergence of cultural conflict in cross-cultural communication and brings some adverse effects to them.

<i>In Vitro</i>Mass Scale Propagation of Wild <i>Cymbidium lowianum</i>with a Rare and Endangered Plant

The wild Cymbidium lowianum, a national-level rare and endangered species of Orchid, is an excellent garden plant with ornamental flowers with striking, deep red lips in a V-shaped formation. The objective of this study was to establish a micropropagation protocol system via immature seeds of wild Cymbidium lowianum, evaluate the Murashige and Skoog (MS), half-strength Murashige and Skoog (1/2 MS) medium, 6-benzylaminopurine (BA), a-napthaleneacetic acid (NAA), organic additions activated charcoal (AC) and banana pulp (BP) effects on the different morphogenesis (seed germination, multiple shoot and rooting) in vitro. The optimal combination for the germination of seed was 1.0 mg·L-1 BA with 0.5 mg·L-1 NAA in 1/2 MS, and addition 0.3%AC, which resulted in 95% seed germination in 90 days. The best formulation for multiple shoot was 1/2 MS medium containing 2.5 mg·L-1 BA, 0.5 mg·L-1 NAA and addition 8% BP in which produced 19.8 shoots per protocorm in 60 days. Multiple shoots were cut and rooted in 1/2 MS supplemented with 1.5 mg·L-1 NAA,0.1 mg·L-1 BA and 0.3% AC, roots initiated 20 days after culture, the rooting percentages reached to 100%, in which 4.7 per shoot produced roots in 60 days. The survival rate of plantlet was up to 92% in moss after 30 days. This finding reveals that it is possible to obtain in vitro culture of Cymbidium lowianum using immature seeds in asymbiotic culture.

Simplification of English Sentence Pattern Structure in the Teaching of Translation and Grammar

In the teaching of translation and grammar,it is essential that the English sentence structure is analyzed and transformation of sentence structures both in English and Chinese in class and after class. However,many kinds of English sentences structures prevent the students who study English from getting the basic idea and concept of a sentence in translation or grammatical analysis. In this paper,the author submitted the basic mould of simplification of English sentence structure,and the students can learn and master the translating technique through the simplified English sentence structure. Thus it helps to improve students' competence of translation.

Mediational Effect of Multimodal PPT Presentation on Students' Learning Achievements

This study endeavored to explore the mediational effects of multimodal PIT presentation on students'CET-4 scores and their self-efficacy by using tests,questionnaires and interviews.Two classes,namely the control class(50 students)and the experimental class(51 students)were randomly chosen from 24 freshman year classes.The statistical results showed that participants in the experimental class have improved a lot in their performances in CET-4 as well as their levels of self-efficacy.The purpose is to provide an empirical evidence for this teaching model and encourage teachers to adopt it in real teaching practice so as to help language learners to form a dynamic balance among factors of linguistic input,internalization,and output.
