With global integration going deeper,bilingualism has become a more social issue than a purely linguistic phenomenon.Over seas scholars have been studying in this field for a long time while in China,studies regarding bilingualism are still in its early stages.This pa per provides a historic review on the definition,categorization as well as its cognitive functions.Although it is still a question whether bilin gualism is an advantage or disadvantage to human beings' especially children's cognitive ability,this paper has concluded that early studies showed more negative results while recent research has shifted to a more positive attitude.

The Renditions Series and Modern Chinese Literature’s “Going-out”: Its Model and Enlightenment of Translation, Communication and Dissemination

In the process of Chinese Literature’s “Going-out” project, it istypical of the dilemma faced by the external translation and dissemination of modernChinese literature. The Renditions Series serves as a classical case of providing aneffective model of “literature’s overseas distribution”. The successful experience of itstranslating-cum-disseminating model can be concluded as follows: all the translatorsare from China and overseas with cross-cultural background; the selection oftranslation is stylistically far-ranging among the Mainland, Taiwan and Hong Kong,and feminine literature in modern China is highly valued; translating method aims atconvoying the original literary aesthetics, and disseminating channels are manifold;the foreign recipients are common and professional readers; the eminent effects canbe proved by its considerable sales, library collections and acceptance in the targetcountries and regions. From the successful model of translation of Renditions Series,five implications can be made out for the modern Chinese literature’s “Going-global”:domestic and overseas translators cooperate well with all-round cultural identities; theselection holds onto diversification and literary character; various spreading channelsshould be broadened; target readers should be accurately located and continuouslywidened; translating and disseminating effects can be focused on and analyzed, so asto adjust and improve the corresponding sections in the model.

An Analysis of Tolerance of Ambiguity in Second Language Learning

In the second language learning,English learners have to face many unavoidable psychological problems,especially the tolerance of ambiguity which plays a vital role in the final result of learning.Traditionally,ambiguity,which means more than two kinds of understandings,is regarded to hindering a learner from making progress.However,based on the cognitive theory,the paper points out that language learning is a moving process from states of doubt and ambiguity to certainty and the tolerance of ambiguity is just the sign of language learning development.The paper also tries to analyze the causes of tolerance of ambiguity from cognitive learning style,learners’strategies,and self-concern factors.According to the English teaching conditions in China,the balance of tolerance of ambiguity is proposed in order to gain the ideal learning.

Analysis of Female Image in Thornton Wilder's Our Town

Our Town was Thornton Wilder’s most influential drama which had been widely performed in theaters and enjoyed constant popularity over the past eighty years.In Our Town,the scenes of female characters doing housework and having daily chatting took a large part of the play.Firstly,the three major female characters in Our Town were depicted as traditional housewives who were devoted and confined to their families.Their personal dreams had all fallen through due to social conventions and the unrequited love to their families.As the story went on,unfortunate fates seized those weak females and left them miserable endings.Although gender stereotype is observed in the play,from the elaborate carving of female images,readers can still see Wilder’s special care for female characters.He made them the critical narrators of the story and let them tell the truth of human life.Plain though those housewives in Our Town were,they never failed to touch the audience and reveal the profound theme.

Pragmatic Analysis of Conversational Implicature of Daily Dialogues in English and Chinese

Cooperative Principle and Politeness Principle are two key pragmatic principles, which can explain why conversational implicature can exist. This paper mainly introduces Grice's Cooperative Principle, Leech's Politeness Principle and Gu Yueguo's Politeness Principle in Chinese culture, takes some English and Chinese daily dialogues as examples, and analyze the probably reasons of causing the differences between English and Chinese conversational implicature and to decrease intercultural communication's pragmatic faults.

A Rhetorical Structure Theory Based Approach to the Erroneous Rhetorical Relations in Chinese EFL Learners' Argumentative Writing

Based on Rhetorical Structure Theory,this study intends to investigate into the erroneous rhetorical relations in Chinese EFL learners 'argumentative writing and their relationship with writing quality.Research findings show that students have problems in handling textual coherence in form and function.However,comparisons of the erroneous rhetorical relations both at the intra-paragraph and at the inter-paragraph level indicate statistical differences between the two groups.

The variables and constants in literature are as difficult to separate and understand as the intricacies of quantum physics.This is the basic mode of literary existence and also an important precondition for the longevity of literary classics.However,since the late 19th century,literary currents have been turbulent,and wave upon wave of critical theory has evinced a discord between“the intrinsic and the extrinsic,”even amounting to mutual exclusion,with the result that literary constants or common sense have been intentionally or unintentionally ignored.This is not only clear evidence of the accelerated development of human society,but also the result of the interaction of many complex factors.For this reason,a dialectical analysis of the relationship between variables and constants or“extrinsic research”and“intrinsic research”has long been a major issue not easily avoided.

Utilization of electroless plating to prepare Cu-coated cotton cloth electrode for flexible Li-ion batteries

Flexible,lightweight and high conductivity substrates are required for the development of next-generation flexible Li-ion batteries(LIBs).In addition,the interfacial strength between the active material and flexible substrate should be optimized for high-performance LIBs.Herein,cotton cloth(CC)is employed as a flexible substrate,and electroless plating is utilized to deposit a layer of Cu nanoparticles,which enhances the conductivity of CC and acts as a precursor for the active material,i.e.,CuO.The results reveal that the in situ etching and subsequent heat treatment converted Cu film into CuO nanowires on CC substrate.Moreover,carbon nano tubes(CNTs)are introduced to enhance the connectivity of CuO nano wires.Consequently,the CuO/CNT/CC electrode rendered a high areal capacity of>700μAh-cm^(-2)after100 charge/discharge cycles as well as excellent rate capability.The current work presents a novel route to develop desirable substrates for next-generation flexible Li-ion batteries.
