Formation of Liquid Pools Entrapped within Solid Grains of ZA27 Alloys during Partial Remelting

The investigations were performed into the formation processes of liquid pools entrapped within solid grains of three ZA27 alloys, produced respectively by either grain refinement, or traditional permanent casting or mechanical stirring, during partial remelting at semisolid temperature of 460℃. The results show that the rapid coalescence of primary grains due to merging of secondary arms during the initial stage of partial remelting is the main cause for the formation of the entrapped liquid pools. This coalescence resulted in that a high quality of eutectics, especially the 77 phase, was entrapped within the grains, and then remelted to form liquid pools during the subsequent heating. In addition, the growth of the η phase decomposed from the primary α' phase and β phase and the subsequent remelting is another cause for the refined and permanent mould casting alloys. Furthermore, the agglomeration of the solid grains also resulted in the entrapment of liquid in the interior of grains.

Integrated Auto-Tuning PID Control of Continuous Casting Process

PID controllers were used for the hydraulic servo system of sliding gate and the tundish weight control system in continuous caster.These two loops were synthesized in mould level controller based on model reduction and internal model control strategy.Satisfactory control performance of this synthetic mould level controller was demonstrated by simulations and on-line experiments.

NONLINEAR VIBRATION AND THERMAL-BUCKLING OF A HEATED ANNULAR PLATE WITH A RIGID MASS

On the basis of Hamilton's principle and dynamic version of von Karman's equations, the nonlinear vibration and thermal-buckling of a uniformly heated isotropic annular plate with a completely clamped outer edge and a fixed rigid mass along the inner edge are studied. By parametric perturbation and numerical differentiation, the nonlinear response of the plate-mass system and the critical temperature in the mid-plane at which the plate is in buckled state are obtained. Some meaningful characteristic curves and data tables are given.

ON THE EXISTENCE AND UNIQUENESS OF SOLUTION OF IMPLICIT HYBRID METHODS

In this paper the existence and uniqueness of the solution of implicit hybrid methods(IHMs)for solving the initial value problems(IVPs)of stiff ordinary differential equations(ODEs)is considered.We provide the coefficient condition and its judging criterion as well as the righthand condition to ensure the existing solution uniquely.

NONSYMMETRICAL LARGE DEFORMATION BENDING PROBLEM OF CIRCULAR THIN PLATES

To begin with, in this paper, the displacement governing equations and the boundary conditions of nonsymmetrical large deflection problem of circular thin plates are derived. By using the transformation and the perturbation method, the nonlinear displacement equations are linearized, and the approximate boundary value problems are obtained. As an example, the nonlinear bending problem of circular thin plates subjected to comparatively complex loads is studied.

UNSYMMETRICAL LARGE DEFORMATION PROBLEM OF ORTHOTROPIC PLATES

Based upon the theory of ardsotropic plates, the unsymmetrical large deformation equations of orthotropic circular plates were derived. By using Fourier series, the partial differential equations of this problem can be transformed into sets of nonlinear differential equations . And the procedure to solve the problem using the iterative method is given .

Fabrication and fracture analysis of MoSi_2 matrix composites by mechanical alloying

Four composites, MoSi 2+ZrO 2, MoSi 2+ZrO 2(Y 2O 3), MoSi 2+ZrO 2+SiC and MoSi 2+ZrO 2(Y 2O 3)+SiC are fabricated by mechanical alloying. It is clear that cracks produced on the MoSi 2 matrix composites during hardness testing belong to the Palmquist crack system. The value of highest fracture toughness of MoSi 2+ZrO 2+SiC composite is 7.58?MPa·m 1/2 , which is nearly three times that of monolithic MoSi 2. This can be attributed to well distributed ZrO 2 and SiC particles along the boundaries of very fine MoSi 2 grains.

LARGE DEFLECTION PROBLEM OF CIRCULAR PLATES WITH VARIABLE THICKNESS UNDER THE ACTION OF COMBINED LOADS

By using the modified iteration method of large deflection theory of plates with variable thichness[1], we solve the problem of circular plates with variable thickness subjected to combined loads under the boundary conditions of the clamped edges and get comparatively more accurate second-order approximate analytical solution. If the results of this paper are degraded into the special cases, the results coinciding with those of papers [1,2] can be obtained. In this paper, the characteristic curves are plotted and some comparisons are made. The results of this paper are satisfactory.
