Studies on China＇ s Foreign Language Education Policies in Multimedia Context ( 1920 -2015)

This paper reviews the evolving foreign language education policies and their interaction with the development of the multimedia education and information technology in China since the 1920 s.Major national foreign language education policies have been cited to analyze their emergence in the multimedia context and their influences on foreign language education.Studies show that foreign language education in China has experienced several ups and downs throughout these years.The policy-making and the education practices maintain a dynamic balance between each other.

C -E Interpreting of Political Neologisms in Contemporary Chinese Political Discourse

Uniqueness of our political systems and tremendous changes brought about by reform and opening up are reflected in language use,so contem porary Chinese political discourse has its own distinctiveness,and is especially featured by increasing political neologisms,posing difficulties for interpreters and for China’s international publicity.Quality of political neologisms interpreting has a direct bearing on whether or not success of interpreting the whole discourse can be achieved.The authors believe that interpreting of contemporary Chinese political discourse,also for the purpose of com m unication can gain guidance from Bachman’s CLA Model.So the paper elaborates through exem plification on strategies for interpreting political neologisms in light of Bachm an’s Model,with a view to realizing discourse power of Chinese.

Developing Intercultural Competence in a Third Space

From the perspective of the Third Space Theory(TST),this study explores eighteen international students’experiences and perceptions of their intercultural interactions on a university campus in Shanghai,the People’s Repulic of China(PRC).The study employs an open-ended questionnaire and two focus group interviews to collect qualitative data.The research findings reveal that participants make creative use of their third space to different degrees and in certain forms.Furthermore,the research findings identify several factors influencing their intercultural growth,including the lack of meaningful learning in intercultural interaction and students’discrepant motives.The conclusion supports the claim that to better improve international students’intercultural competence,it is of great importance for both students and faculty members to co-develop intercultural awareness and skills.

The Exploration and Contrast of the View of Wittgenstein and Chuang-Tzu on Words and Meanings

Although Wittgenstein and Chuang Tzu lived in utterly different backgrounds of times,geography and culture,they both paid close attention to the relationship between language and the world.What's more,they pointed out that there were indeed many things out of the reach of language,namely,the "unspeakable".The essence of Wittgenstein's early philosophy advocates that one has to remain silent for the unspeakable whereas the"Taoism"of Chuang Tzu,on the premise of the recognition of remaining silent,puts forward the highest state of expressing the"unspeakable"- that is,whether to make a statement or not.Despite the fact that there is a slight difference in textual representation and solutions,there is no doubt that they both focus their philosophical research on the"unspeakable".

Kluckhohn and Strodbeck＇s value model in Chinese and American culture

Culture is the holistic interrelationship of a group＇s identity, beliefs, values, activities, rules, customs, communication patterns, and institutions （Dodd, 1998）. Values are important components of a given culture accepted by individuals sharing that culture. They are deep and hidden elements of the cultural iceberg that are seldom questioned or defended but can reflect different characteristics of different cultures. Kluckhohn and Strodbeck＇s value model is used here to analyze distinct Chinese and American culture.

Exploring Angel's mental process and choices from the perspective of Lacan's mirror stage theory will provide a new interpretation of this novel, and a deeper understanding of the aesthetic value and the purpose of the characterization might be formed, and Hardy's concerns for the gender issues in the Victorian age have also been well presented through the time-transcending character.

Implications of Sovereign Wealth Funds on the Governance of the Middle East Region

The rise of Sovereign Wealth Funds(SWFs)globally has become an irreversible trend.Among all the regions across the world that have established SWFs,the Middle East has the longest history and possesses huge strengths.Today,it is evident that the SWFs are playing ever-important roles in financial operations,local development and global cooperation for the Middle East,which has major implications for SWFs’potential on the governance of this region in the future.As an emerging and powerful financial instrument mastered by sovereign countries,especially for those with abundant natural resources,SWFs can eliminate the impact of commodity price fluctuations and foreign exchange earning surpluses on the domestic fiscal and monetary policies,contributing to a stable and sustainable economic and political development.As accepted regular method of close cooperation among countries,especially ones in the Middle East,SWFs can serve various economic and political agendas between the Middle East and the rest of the world,constituting wider and deeper connections despite the lack of private overseas trade and investments in this region.In fact,SWFs from a variety of countries,as well as international financial institutions with sovereign background,have participated actively in the governance of the Middle East region.However,there are still challenges for applying SWF to the governance of the Middle East region.The SWFs in the Middle East need to improve their performance and transparency consistently against the doubt of their sustainability due to the depreciation of oil prices and the complexity of the Arab world.The international community needs to treat the SWF threat theory recognized by some Western developed countries to facilitate further SWF involvements.Vigorous international cooperative mechanisms concerning SWF need to be created to address those issues.
