Therefore, it is necessary to give appropriate treatments to keep them in good conditions. Kyushu Research Institute for Cultural Properties Inc. and Kumamoto University introduced a new method, Aquo-Siloxane Method, in order to protect the stone heritages. In this study, preservation effect by Aquo-Siloxane method towards water permeation and material diffusion was verified. Here one-dimensional permeation and diffusion tests were conducted, and the intrinsic permeability and diffusion coefficient of rock samples with and without Aquo-Siloxane treatments were evaluated. As rock samples, 3 types of sandstones and concrete were applied. It was found that the permeability decreased to less than 1/10 to 1/100 of without Aquo-Siloxane treatment, and that the effect gradually developed during more than one year. One-dimensional diffusion tests were also conducted, and the diffusion process in rock samples are visualized by X-ray CT scanner system. It was confirmed internal structures of samples are clearly visualized, and that the diffusion process was also visualized as X-ray CT images. In order to extract the necessary information due to diffusion, image subtraction method was applied to image data. Then, by comparing obtained CT image data and numerical solutions, diffusion coefficients of rock samples with and without Aquo-Siloxane treatments were evaluated. As a result, diffusion coefficients also became smaller by applying Aquo-Siloxane treatments. It is revealed that material movement due to diffusion was also efficiently suppressed by applying Aquo-Siloxane method. Finally, Aquo-Siloxane method was applied to a stone heritage. It was found that no more chippings and cracks were observed and that the heritage has been kept in good condition for at least four years.展开更多

The jet becomes underexpanded when the nozzle p...In this study, flow characteristics are experimentally and numerically discussed, especially concerning shock-cell structure and oscillatory phenomena of supersonic jet. The jet becomes underexpanded when the nozzle pressure ratio of convergent nozzle exceeds the critical value. The underexpanded jet is not uniform because of the presence of the expansion wave, the compression wave and the shock wave formed in it. Many vortices are induced in jet boundary region by shearing stress generated between supersonic jet flow and atmospheric air. They interact with shock waves composing cell node of jet, which is closely related to a noise radiating from the jet. In experiment, flow field is visualized and the shape of cell structure is examined. Furthermore, frequency of vortex generation is measured. The jet is simulated using TVD scheme and the results are compared with the experimental ones. Distortion of cell structure caused by three dimensional oscillation of jet and behavior of vortices are discussed.展开更多

Furthermore, in the Diels-Alder reactions of 2- and 2,5-alkylfurans with N-alkylma- leimide, the reactivity increases by extending the alkyl chain length of N-alkylmaleimide. In addition, it was demon- strated that endo-selectivity increases when 2,5-disubstituted furans are used. These results will be explained by comparing the stability of the Diels-Alder adduct with that of the products obtained from the reactions of 2-substituted furans and 2,5-disubstituted furans.展开更多

The dynamic effects of smoke are impressive in illustration design,but it is a troublesome and challenging issue for inexpert users to design smoke effects without domain knowledge of fuid simulations.In this work,we ...The dynamic effects of smoke are impressive in illustration design,but it is a troublesome and challenging issue for inexpert users to design smoke effects without domain knowledge of fuid simulations.In this work,we propose DualSmoke,a two-stage globalto-local generation framework for interactive smoke illustration design.In the global stage,the proposed approach utilizes fluid patterns to generate Lagrangian coherent structures from the user's hand-drawn sketches.In the local stage,detailed flow patterns are obtained from the generated coherent structure.Finally,we apply a guiding force field to the smoke simulator to produce the desired smoke illustration.To construct the training dataset,DualSmoke generates flow patterns using finite-time Lyapunov exponents of the velocity fields.The synthetic sketch data are generated from the fow patterns by skeleton extraction.Our user study verifies that the proposed design interface can provide various smoke illustration designs with good user usability.Our code is available at https://github.com/shasph/DualSmoke.展开更多
