The Effect of Exercise Duration on Mobile Phone Dependence among College Students: The Mediating Role of Self-Control

This research focused on the social concern of college students5 participation in physical exercise and mobile phone dependence.The research model and hypotheses in this study were constructed based on the self-control theory and by reviewing previous research.This research distributed questionnaires to 207 college students from a university in Guangzhou,China to obtain relevant data.Mediation analysis was employed to test the four hypotheses drawn from empirical and conceptual research.The results of this research showed that first,the longer the exercise duration of college students,the higher the level of their self-control,thus exercise duration has a significant positive impact on self-control.Second,increasing the exercise duration of college students had no effect on their mobile phone dependence.Third,the higher the level of selfcontrol,the lower the dependence on mobile phones,thus signifying that self-control has significantly negative impact on mobile phone dependence.Fourth,self-control plays a mediating role in the effect of exercise duration on mobile phone dependence.In conclusion,the longer the exercise duration of college students,the higher the level of self-control,in which it is able to significantly reduce the dependence on mobile phones.

Correlates of the School-Based Guidance Program to Freshman Students in Guangdong Province,China:Basis for Enhanced Guidance Program

Guidance programs have significant roles in preparing students for the future.The study recognizes that guidance and counseling programs are a transformative process of helping students strengthen their career planning,education,and preparation for employment.The guidance programs of first-year college students from Guangdong Peizheng College(GPC)in Guangdong Province,China was investigated,with 357 freshman students currently enrolled in the participating school involved in this study.Moreover,12 guidance counselors were interviewed through focused-group discussions,including the school director,for the qualitative component of the study.Utilizing the convergent parallel design mixed method,the study was able to elucidate the quantitative and qualitative relevance of the data gathered from the selected participants.The emerging results found that Chinese freshman students were satisfied with all of the parameters of the guidance programs of the school.The school counselors are able to provide students with a rich reservoir of academic cand guidance support,career mentoring,and career guidance.There were contributing factors that need to be addressed if improvement and innovation of the guidance program is the primary goal.Support and resources should be prioritized in order to enrich the development not only of the students but also of the guidance counselors.The study serves as empirical evidence for proposing an improved school-based guidance program as practical outputs of the study further to innovate the effectiveness of the implementation of guidance services.

A Discussion of Foreign Language Listening Problems and Their Causes among Intermediate EFL learners in Chinese universities

Listening has been considered as the most important language skill by many researchers but in Chinese context it has been overlooked for years.The Foreign Language(FL)listening problems gradually reveal when students attend to the Listening Course in universities or colleges.This paper at first illustrates the importance of listening in foreign language learning and provides a discussion on the top-down and bottom-up processes with the analysis of Anderson's three-model of language comprehension[9]as well as the factors affecting listening comprehension in Foreign Language in general,aiming at the illustration of the necessity on one of the bottom-up processes-the Spoken Word Recognition(SWR).The analysis of two issued official guiding documents for Chinese university students and the current situation of English listening teaching in Chinese universities are followed,providing a general background on English listening teaching in Chinese context.Three possible foreign language listening problems and their causes are proposed,followed by the pedagogical suggestions to EFL learners who are improving their listening skills and instructors who are advancing their teaching procedures.

Attitudes among Non-English Major EFL Students

This paper intends to find the different attitudes among non-English major EFL students in their past learning experiences. Most students have either fear or unpleasant feelings about their learning experiences,and students of different majors have different perspectives about English learning. Several suggestions are provided for future application in teaching English to non-English majors.

The effectiveness of Quizlet,an online vocabulary learning tool,in enhancing vocabulary acquisition and academic performance among Business English major students in China was investigated in this study.With emphasis on the importance of vocabulary proficiency for English learners,especially those in English-related majors,this research aimed to understand the impact of Quizlet on vocabulary mastery and its connection to overall academic success.A one-academic-year longitudinal experiment was carried out involving two classes,utilizing quantitative methods for assessing vocabulary retention and academic progress.Improvement was seen in the final exam rankings and vocabulary retention rates in Quizlet-engaged classes.Hopefully,this study could provide valuable insights for educators,curriculum designers,and researchers,guiding the optimization of language acquisition strategies in the digital age.
