Current treatment of vitiligo is still a great challenge,since most cases of vitiligo have variable re-pigmentation outcomes due to their unpredictable responses to existing therapeutic regimens.There is an urgent nee...Current treatment of vitiligo is still a great challenge,since most cases of vitiligo have variable re-pigmentation outcomes due to their unpredictable responses to existing therapeutic regimens.There is an urgent need to identify this re-pigmentation process and to develop novel therapies.This review illustrates the most current research and latest understanding of vitiligo skin re-pigmentation and related regulatory mechanisms.Literature was collected from PubMed until January 2020,using the search terms including"vitiligo,""re-pigmentation,""phototherapy,""narrow-band ultraviolet B,""excimer,""fractional carbon dioxide laser,"and"melanocyte stem cells."Literature was mainly derived from English articles.Article type was not limited.Emerging evidence suggests that patients with vitiligo present various re-pigmentation patterns following ultraviolet B phototherapy,which relies on different cell reservoirs from the perilesional margins and/or from uninvolved hair follicles to replenish functional melanocytes that are lost in vitiliginous skin.The following events are likely to be involved in this re-pigmentation process,including:1)changes in the paracrine secretion and distribution of transforming growth factor-β1 in the bulge area and in the epidermis;2)the enhanced transfer of dermal pro-melanogenic growth factors to the epidermis;and 3)the induction of a C-X-C motif chemokine ligand(CXCL)12-enriched micro-environment that efficiently recruits CXCR4-or CXCR7-positive melanocytes.Ongoing studies on the cellular and molecular events underlying vitiligo re-pigmentation will help design new therapeutic strategies to improve treatment outcomes.展开更多

However, the simple model, informed by its authors' choice of parameters, usually hindcasts observed temperature change more closely than the general-circulation models, and finds high climate sensitivity implausible. With IPCC's choice of parameters, the model is further validated in that it duly replicates IPCC's sensitivity interval. Also, fast climate system response is consistent with near-zero or net-negative temperature feedback.Given the large uncertainties in the initial conditions and evolutionary processes determinative of climate sensitivity,subject to obvious caveats a simple sensitivity-focusedmodel need not, and the present model does not, exhibit significantly less predictive skill than the general-circulation models.展开更多
We show that organic photovoltaics(OPVs)are suitable for high-speed optical wireless data receivers that can also harvest power.In addition,these OPVs are of particular interest for indoor applications,as their bandga...We show that organic photovoltaics(OPVs)are suitable for high-speed optical wireless data receivers that can also harvest power.In addition,these OPVs are of particular interest for indoor applications,as their bandgap is larger than that of silicon,leading to better matching to the spectrum of artificial light.By selecting a suitable combination of a narrow bandgap donor polymer and a nonfullerene acceptor,stable OPVs are fabricated with a power conversion efficiency of 8.8%under 1 Sun and 14%under indoor lighting conditions.In an optical wireless communication experiment,a data rate of 363 Mb/s and a simultaneous harvested power of 10.9 mW are achieved in a 4-by-4 multipleinput multiple-output(MIMO)setup that consists of four laser diodes,each transmitting 56 mW optical power and four OPV cells on a single panel as receivers at a distance of 40 cm.This result is the highest reported data rate using OPVs as data receivers and energy harvesters.This finding may be relevant to future mobile communication applications because it enables enhanced wireless data communication performance while prolonging the battery life in a mobile device.展开更多
