Study Design: The parotid glands of 20 volunteers were assessed by 31P-MRS using 3D-CSI on 3T MRI. After obtaining a first (baseline) measurement, the participants took vitamin-C tablets and measurements were obtained twice more, in a continuous manner. The peak area ratios of PCr and β-ATP were evaluated. Results: A high proportion of PCr (0.26 ± 0.08) and ATP (α: 0.16 ± 0.06;β: 0.27 ± 0.06;γ: 0.21 ± 0.03) was noted at baseline. A significant decrease in β-ATP was observed between baseline (“pre”;0.27 ± 0.06) and the first scan after vitamin-C stimulation (“post-1”;0.19 ± 0.07, p < 0.05). There was a near-significant decrease in PCr between pre (0.26 ± 0.08) and post-1 (0.23 ± 0.06, p = 0.074). Conclusions: 31P-MRS with 3D-CSI can assess the major phosphorus metabolites in human parotid glands and capture changes in their levels due to saliva secretion. This technique is simple, non-invasive, and provides new information regarding saliva secretion.展开更多

We reviewed and analyzed the PET/CT features of gastric wall lesions, including FDG avidity,pattern(focal/diffuse),and intensity [maximal standard uptake value:(SUVmax)]. The correlation of SUVmax with gastricclinicopathological variables was investigated by χ~2 test, and receiver-operating characteristic(ROC) curve analysis was performed to determine the differential diagnostic value of SUVmax-associated parameters in gastric lymphoma and gastric carcinoma. RESULTS Fifty-two patients with gastric lymphoma and 73 with gastric carcinoma were included in this study. Abnormal gastric FDG accumulation was found in 49 patients(94.23%) with gastric lymphoma and 65 patients(89.04%) with gastric carcinoma. Gastric lymphoma patients predominantly presented with type Ⅰ and type Ⅱ lesions, whereas gastric carcinoma patients mainly had type Ⅲ lesions. The SUVmax(13.39 ± 9.24 vs 8.35 ± 5.80,P < 0.001) and SUVmax/THKmax(maximal thickness)(7.96 ± 4.02 vs 4.88 ± 3.32,P < 0.001) were both higher in patients with gastric lymphoma compared with gastric carcinoma. ROC curve analysis suggested a better performance of SUVmax/THKmax in the evaluation of gastric lesions between gastric lymphoma and gastric carcinoma in comparison with that of SUVmax alone.CONCLUSION PET/CT features differ between gastric lymphoma and carcinoma, which can improve PET/CT evaluation of gastric wall lesions and help differentiate gastric lymphoma from gastric carcinoma.展开更多

Through a multiple disciplinary team, the diagnosis and treatment of primary intestinal yolk sac tumor were further defined. We report 2 such cases with detailed histologic and immunohistochemical analysis. The two patients were a 7-year-old girl and a 29-year-old woman. Both of them preoperatively had an elevated serum alpha fetoprotein(AFP) level(≥ 1,210 ng/mL). The tumors are located in the intestine and imaging examination indicated the rectum as the primary site. Grossly the mass was grey-white and crisp texture. Microscopic examination featured reticular, microcystic, macrocystic, papillary, solid, and some glandular patterns. Immunohistochemically, tumor cells of both cases were positive for SALL4, AFP, pan-cytokeratin(AE1/AE3), and glypican-3. Simultaneously, a stain for EMA, OCT4, CD30, HCG, vimentin and CK20 were negative in all 2 neoplasms. The features of morphology, immunohistochemistry, laboratory examinations and imaging studies consist of the diagnosis of primary yolk sac tumor of the intestine.展开更多

They usually occur under the influence of hormonal changes that the girls undergo at the time of puberty and they happen due to overgrowth of glandular tissue in the breast. Ultrasonography is the best diagnosis for fibroadenoma. There is no medical treatment for fibroadenoma except surgical excision and a new method recently comes out—vacuum assisted fibroadenomas resection.展开更多

Methods: 128 patients with left nephrectomy and either one or multiple renal arteries were enrolled. Radiologists with varying levels of expertise (5 board-certified and 3 non-certified) interpreted all MDCT images, including axial, VR and MIP images, independently and determined the numbers of renal arteries. The interpretation times, sensitivity, specificity and diagnostic accuracy rates were analyzed. A receiver operating characteristic analysis was used to compare the results from the various reconstruction methods. Results: At surgery, there were 156 arteries: 101 donors had one renal artery and 27 had multiple arteries. The interpretation time for board-certified radiologists was shorter than that for non-certified radiologists, and the interpretation time using MIP images was significantly shorter than that of using the other reconstruction methods. The sensitivity, specificity and diagnostic accuracy on axial images were significantly higher than those on other images. The average Az value for detection of the numbers of renal arteries using axial images was higher than that of using other images. Conclusion: MDCT is helpful in reviewing the numbers of donated renal arteries for radiologists with different levels of expertise, and different types of reconstructions.展开更多

Materials and Methods: Between May 2004 and December 2012, 140 patients, all of whom were diagnosed as having an endometrioma by using MR imaging, underwent surgery. We compared the MR characteristics including size and signal intensity of the tumor and mural nodules, the thickness of the septum, and the thickness of the wall with the pathological diagnoses. The attached angles of the mural nodules to the cyst wall were also evaluated. Results: Among the 179 lesions, preoperative MR imaging diagnosed 153 benign and 26 malignant. Based on the pathological results, 169 were diagnosed as benign and 10 were diagnosed as malignant. Finally, preoperative MR imaging correctly diagnosed 152 benign (group 1) and nine malignant (group 2), misdiagnosed 17 benign as malignant (group 3) and misdiagnosed one malignant as benign (group 4). As for mural nodules, there was a significant difference between groups 1 and 2 in the mean maximum diameter of the mural nodules. An acute attached angle was shown in 1 of 7 in group 1, in 11 of 16 in group 2, and in 14 of 22 in group 3. We also compared benign group with malignant group on the final pathological findings. As for mural nodules, there was a significant difference between groups 1 + 3 and group 2 in the mean maximum diameter of the mural nodules. On dynamic study, there were 22 enhanced mural nodules (75.9%) on group 1 + 3. Conclusion: Most of endometriomas preoperatively diagnosed as benign were pathological benign lesions. Endometriomas that contain many enhanced mural nodules with papillary shape, larger size, showing hypointense on T1WI, hyperintense on T2WI and showing an acute attached angle may have malignant potential.展开更多

In this study, small BP nanoparticles were synthesized and modified with dextran and poly(ethyleneimine) for functionalization with folic acid and cyanine 7. The functionalized BP nanoparticles exhibit excellent biocompatibility, stability, and near infrared optical properties for targeted imaging of tumors through photoacoustic imaging and near-infrared fluorescence imaging. They also display high photothermal conversion efficiency for photothermal therapy of cancer. This work demonstrates the potential of functionalized small BP nanoparticles as an emerging nanotheranostic agent for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.展开更多

Human androgen-independent PC-3 prostate cancer cells were treated with sorafenib. At concentration that suppresses extracellular signal-regulated kinase phosphorylation, sorafenib treatment reduced the mitochondrial transmembrane potential. Sorafenib also down-modulated the levels of mye- loid cell leukemia 1, survivin and cellular inhibitor of apoptosis protein 2. Sorafenib induced caspase-3 cleavage and the mitochondrial release of cytochrome c. However, no nuclear translocation of apoptosis inducing factor was detected after treatment and the pan-caspase inhibitor Z-VAD-FMK had an obvious protective effect against the drug. In conclusion, sorafenib induces apoptosis through a caspase-dependent mechanism with down-regulated antiapoptotic proteins in androgen-independent prostate cancer cells in vitro.展开更多

Gastric lymphoma patients predominantly presented with type Ⅰ and type Ⅱ lesions, whereas gastric carcinoma patients mainly had type Ⅲ lesions. The SUVmax(13.39 ± 9.24 vs 8.35 ± 5.80,P < 0.001) and SUVmax/THKmax(maximal thickness)(7.96 ± 4.02 vs 4.88 ± 3.32,P < 0.001) were both higher in patients with gastric lymphoma compared with gastric carcinoma. ROC curve analysis suggested a better performance of SUVmax/THKmax in the evaluation of gastric lesions between gastric lymphoma and gastric carcinoma in comparison with that of SUVmax alone.CONCLUSION PET/CT features differ between gastric lymphoma and carcinoma, which can improve PET/CT evaluation of gastric wall lesions and help differentiate gastric lymphoma from gastric carcinoma.

文摘Triple-negative breast cancer(TNBC)is a subtype of breast cancer in which the estrogen receptor and progesterone receptor are not expressed, and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 is not amplified or overexpressed either, which make the clinical diagnosis and treatment very challenging.Molecular imaging can provide an effective way to diagnose TNBC.Upconversion nanoparticles(UCNPs),are a promising new generation of molecular imaging probes. However,UCNPs still need to be improved for tumor-targeting ability and biocompatibility. This study describes a novel probe based on cancer cell membrane-coated upconversion nanoparticles(CCm-UCNPs),owing to the low immunogenicity and homologous-targeting ability of cancer cell membranes, and modified multifunctional UCNPs.This probe exhibits excellent performance in breast cancer molecular classification and TNBC diagnosis through UCL/MRI/PET tri-modality imaging in vivo.By using this probe,MDA-MB-231 was successfully differentiated between MCF-7 tumor models in vivo.Based on the tumor imaging and molecular classification results, the probe is also expected to be modified for drug delivery in the future, contributing to the treatment of TNBC.The combination of nanoparticles with biomimetic cell membranes has the potential for multiple clinical applications.

文摘Extragonadal primary yolk sac tumor of the intestinal tract origin is exceedingly rare. The features of morphology, immunohistochemistry, laboratory examinations and imaging studies consist of the diagnosis of primary yolk sac tumor of the intestine.
文摘Fibroadenomas are the most common lumps found in adolescence girls. They usually occur under the influence of hormonal changes that the girls undergo at the time of puberty and they happen due to overgrowth of glandular tissue in the breast. Ultrasonography is the best diagnosis for fibroadenoma. There is no medical treatment for fibroadenoma except surgical excision and a new method recently comes out—vacuum assisted fibroadenomas resection.
文摘Purpose: The purpose was to compare the effectiveness of MDCT reconstruction methods that improve detectability for detecting the renal arteries in patients undergoing laparoscopic nephrectomy irrespective of the ability of the radiologist. Conclusion: MDCT is helpful in reviewing the numbers of donated renal arteries for radiologists with different levels of expertise, and different types of reconstructions.
文摘Introduction: The purposes were to clarify the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings of malignant ovarian lesions arising from endometriomas, and to compare the lesions’ histopathology and MRI characteristics. Endometriomas that contain many enhanced mural nodules with papillary shape, larger size, showing hypointense on T1WI, hyperintense on T2WI and showing an acute attached angle may have malignant potential.

文摘Pretargeting is an innovative and promising approach in nuclear medicine for targeted-imaging/therapy through the following bioorthogonal reactions. It requires two reactive participants, one of which is a targeting vector and the other is a small radiolabeled probe capable of specifically coupling through bioorthogonal reactions with the targeting vector accumulated in the disease site.Compared to the conventional direct targeting approach, such a two-step scheme conceptually can achieve a higher imaging contrast and an improved therapeutic effect owing to the suppressed non-specific targeting. In this review,we will first give a brief introduction on pretargeting systems and the history of bioorthogonal reactions, and then focus on some important works about radionuclide delivering through the bioorthogonal reaction based pretargeting strategy. Finally,we will discuss the steps forward in respect to the future clinical translation and truly hope that this methodology would continue to make contributions to nuclear medicines.

文摘Black phosphorus(BP) nanomaterials have attracted extensive attention due to their unique physical, chemical, and biological properties. This work demonstrates the potential of functionalized small BP nanoparticles as an emerging nanotheranostic agent for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
文摘AIM:To investigate the usefulness of branched-chain amino acids(BCAA)before transarterial chemoembolization(TACE)or radiofrequency ablation(RFA).METHODS:We investigated the usefulness of preintervention with BCAAs by comparing patients treated with BCAAs at 12.45 g/d orally for at least 2 wk before TACE or RFA and those not receiving such pretreatment.A total of 270 patients with hepatocellular carcinoma complicated by cirrhosis were included in the study.Mean changes from baseline(Δ)in serum albumin(Alb),C-reactive protein(CRP),and transaminase levels,as well as peak body temperature were also determined and compared at days 2,5,and 10 after the start of TACE or RFA.RESULTS:In patients who underwent TACE or RFA,BCAA pre-intervention significantly suppressed the development of post-intervention hypoalbuminemia and reduced inflammatory reactions during the subsequent clinical course. After TACE,theΔAlb peaked on day 2,remained constantly lower in BCAA-treated patients, compared to the control group, and was-0.13±0.42g/dL in BCAA-treated patients and-0.33±0.51 g/dL in untreated patients on day 10.TheΔCRP was also significantly lower in BCAA-treated patients on days2,5 and 10 after TACE.Like the trends noted after TACE,a similar tendency was noted as to theΔAlb andΔCRP after RFA.The changes in serum Alb level were inversely correlated with CRP changes;therefore,a possible involvement of the anti-inflammatory effect of BCAAs was inferred as a factor contributory to the suppression of decrease in serum Alb level.CONCLUSION:Pre-intervention with BCAAs may hasten the recovery of serum Alb level and mitigate postoperative complications in patients undergoing TACE or RFA.

文摘Objective:A high rate of unnecessary thymectomies has been reported. This study aimed to distinguish primary mediastinal lymphomas(PMLs)from thymic epithelial tumors(TETs)by evaluating volumetric and metabolic parameters with l8F-FDG PET/CT.Methods:A total of 136 patients who were pathologically diagnosed with TETs or PMLs were enrolled, and 18F-FDG PET/CT was performed before therapy.Volumetric parameters, including the mean SUV(SUVmean),metabolic tumor volume(MTV),total lesion glycolysis(TLG),and SUVmax, were determined and compared between the 2 subtypes. The diagnostic performance of these parameters was evaluated with receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve analysis. Results:All parameters significantly differed between patients with PMLs and TETs.Patients with lymphomas were younger and had higher SUVmean,SUVmax,TLG,and MTV values than patients with TETs.The MTV and TLG values had similar diagnostic performance.ROC analysis indicated that the areas under the curves of the SUVmean and SUVmax values performed similarly(approximately 0.76)in differentiating patients with PMLs from TETs,and both values were better than the MTV and TLG values. When age was included with the SUVmax in differentiating TETs from PMLs,the AUC was 0.91,and the sensitivity and specificity increased to 80%and 93%,respectively.Conclusions:The SUVmax and volumetric parameters of 18F-FDG PET/CT can be used to distinguish patients with PMLs versus TETs,and thus may aid in preventing unnecessary thymectomies or other invasive operations.

文摘The present study investigated the effects of the multikinase inhibitor sorafenib on androgen-independent can- cer cells viability and intracellular signaling. In conclusion, sorafenib induces apoptosis through a caspase-dependent mechanism with down-regulated antiapoptotic proteins in androgen-independent prostate cancer cells in vitro.
文摘AIM:To present our initial experience with computed tomography guided radiofrequency ablation(RFA) of osteoid osteoma(OO) in our institution.METHODS:RFA was performed on eight patients(5 males and 3 females) with clinically and radiologically diagnosed OO(femoral neck,n = 4;femoral diaphysis,n = 2;tibial diaphysis,n = 1;fibular diaphysis,n = 1).Ablation was performed using an electrode with a 10-mm exposed tip for a total of 4-6 min at a targeted temperature of 90 degrees Celsius. No cooling system was used. The intervention was accepted as technically successful if the tip of the electrode could be placed within the center of the nidus. We defined clinical success as a disappearance within 2 wk after treatment of symptoms that had manifested at presentation.RESULTS:All procedures were technically successful. No major or immediate complications were observed.Clinical success was achieved in six of eight patients in the first procedure.A second procedure was performed for two patients who had recurrent or continued pain, and one of these cases was successfully treated. The overall rate of success was 87.5%(7/8).No complication was observed.CONCLUSION:Our preliminary results indicate a favorable success rate and no complications and are compatible with the previous reports of RFA of OO.
