The study investigates long-term changes in annual and seasonal rainfall patterns in the Indira Sagar Region of Madhya Pradesh, India, from 1901 to 2010. Agriculture sustainability, food supply, natural resource development, and hydropower system reliability in the region rely heavily on monsoon rainfall. Monthly rainfall data from three stations (East Nimar, Barwani, and West Nimar) were analyzed. Initially, the pre-whitening method was applied to eliminate serial correlation effects from the rainfall data series. Subsequently, statistical trends in annual and seasonal rainfall were assessed using both parametric (student-t test) and non-parametric tests [Mann-Kendall, Sen’s slope estimator, and Cumulative Sum (CUSUM)]. The magnitude of the rainfall trend was determined using Theil-Sen’s slope estimator. Spatial analysis of the Mann-Kendall test on an annual basis revealed a statistically insignificant decreasing trend for Barwani and East Nimar and an increasing trend for West Nimar. On a seasonal basis, the monsoon season contributes a significant percentage (88.33%) to the total annual rainfall. The CUSUM test results indicated a shift change detection in annual rainfall data for Barwani in 1997, while shifts were observed in West and East Nimar stations in 1929. These findings offer valuable insights into regional rainfall behavior, aiding in the planning and management of water resources and ecological systems. 展开更多

Background: Bifurcation lesions pose a high risk for adverse events after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Evidence supporting the benefits of the two-stent strategy (2SS) for treating coronary bifurcation lesions in India is limited. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical outcomes of various 2SSs for percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty for bifurcation lesions in India. Materials and Methods: This retrospective, observational, multicentric, real-world study included 64 patients over 8 years. Data on demographics, medical history, PCI procedures, and outcomes were recorded. Descriptive statistics were computed using the SPSS software. Results: Patients (n = 64) had an average age of 65.3 ± 11.1 years, with 78.1% males. Acute coronary syndrome was reported in 18.8%, chronic stable angina in 40.6%, and unstable angina in 34.4% of participants. Two-vessel disease was observed in 98.4% of patients, and 99.4% had true bifurcation lesions. The commonly involved vessels were the left anterior descending artery (50%), left circumflex coronary artery (34.4%), and first diagonal artery (43.8%). Mean percent diameter stenosis was 87.2% ± 10.1%. The mean number of stents used was 2.00 ± 0.34. The 2SS techniques included the T and small protrusion (TAP) (39.1%), double kissing (DK) crush (18.8%), and the culotte techniques (14.1%). Procedural and angiographic success rate was 92.18%. Major adverse cardiovascular events at 1-year follow-up occurred in 7.8% of cases. Conclusion: The 2SS for bifurcation lesions showed favorable in-hospital and follow-up outcomes. Findings can serve as a resource for bifurcation angioplasty in India. Larger real-world studies with robust methodology are needed to validate these results. 展开更多

The performance of a newly designed tri-lobe industrial lobe pump of high capacity is simulated by using commercial CFD solver Ansys Fluent. A combination of user-defined-functions and meshing strategies is employed to capture the rotation of the lobes. The numerical model is validated by comparing the simulated results with the literature values. The processes of suction, displacement, compression and exhaust are accurately captured in the transient simulation. The fluid pressure value remains in the range of inlet pressure value till the processes of suction and displacement are over. The instantaneous process of compression is accurately captured in the simulation. The movement of a particular working chamber is traced along the gradual degree of lobe’s rotation. At five different degrees of lobe’s rotation, pressure contour plots are reported which clearly shows the pressure values inside the working chamber. Each pressure value inside the working chamber conforms to the particular process in which the working chamber is operating. Finally, the power requirement at the shaft of rotation is estimated from the simulated values. The estimated value of power requirement is 3.61 BHP FHP whereas the same calculated theoretically is 3 BHP FHP. The discrepancy is attributed to the assumption of symmetry of blower along the thickness. 展开更多

The choice of extrusion process is a decisive factor that affects the finished product quality for polybag manufacturing. One important component influencing the quality of the finished product is the selection of the extrusion technique. Two popular procedures that vary in the kind of dye used and the final product’s texture are cast film and blown film. In the horizontal extrusion moulding method known as “cast film”, heated resin is injected into a flat dye and allowed to cool on chill rolls. The film produced is clear, lightweight, and appropriate for lamination;its thickness varies based on the winding speed and the film is slower to crystallize and has less clarity but more durability because the resin molecules have reoriented, facing limitation of high wastage generation. This study primarily focused on the preparation of polybag film using the blown film extrusion process, utilizing high-quality polymer resins such as polyester polyethylene (PP) and linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) to minimize waste generation. The novelty of the process was reflected in minimising the waste generation. The control parameters considered in this study are temperature, pressure, and air intake volume. We investigated the influence of these critical process control parameters on the gauge thickness, optical properties, and mechanical strength of the polybag film produced through blown film extrusion. Additionally, we replicated the blown film process using simulation software developed at Pennsylvania College of Technology. The simulation results confirmed the overall stability of the polybag film produced through the blown film extrusion process. 展开更多

The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2(SARS-CoV-2)belongs to the genus Beta coronavirus and the family of Coronaviridae. It is a positive-sense,non-segmented single-strand RNA virus.Four common types of human coronaviruses circulate globally, particularly in the fall and winter seasons. They are responsible for 10%-30% of all mild upper respiratory tract infections in adults. These are 229E,NL63 of the Alfacoronaviridae family,OC43,and HKU1 of the Betacoronaviridae family. However, there are three highly pathogenic human coronaviruses:SARS-CoV-2,Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus, and the latest pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 infection. All viruses, including SARS-CoV-2,have the inherent tendency to evolve.SARS-CoV-2 is still evolving in humans.Additionally, due to the development of herd immunity, prior infection, use of medication, vaccination, and antibodies, the viruses are facing immune pressure.During the replication process and due to immune pressure, the virus may undergo mutations.Several SARS-CoV-2 variants, including the variants of concern(VOCs),such as B.1.1.7(Alpha),B.1.351(Beta),B.1.617/B.1.617.2(Delta),P.1(Gamma),and B.1.1.529(Omicron)have been reported from various parts of the world. These VOCs contain several important mutations;some of them are on the spike proteins. These mutations may lead to enhanced infectivity, transmissibility, and decreased neutralization efficacy by monoclonal antibodies, convalescent sera,or vaccines.Mutations may also lead to a failure of detection by molecular diagnostic tests, leading to a delayed diagnosis, increased community spread, and delayed treatment. We searched PubMed,EMBASE,Covariant, the Stanford variant Database, and the CINAHL from December 2019 to February 2023 using the following search terms:VOC,SARS-CoV-2,Omicron,mutations in SARS-CoV-2,etc.This review discusses the various mutations and their impact on infectivity, transmissibility, and neutralization efficacy. 展开更多

In today’s world, image processing techniques play a crucial role in the prognosis and diagnosis of various diseases due to the development of several precise and accurate methods for medical images.Automated analysis of medical images is essential for doctors,as manual investigation often leads to inter-observer variability. This research aims to enhance healthcare by enabling the early detection of diabetic retinopathy through an efficient image processing framework. The proposed hybridized method combines Modified Inertia Weight Particle Swarm Optimization(MIWPSO)and Fuzzy C-Means clustering(FCM)algorithms.Traditional FCM does not incorporate spatial neighborhood features, making it highly sensitive to noise, which significantly affects segmentation output. Our method incorporates a modified FCM that includes spatial functions in the fuzzy membership matrix to eliminate noise. The results demonstrate that the proposed FCM-MIWPSO method achieves highly precise and accurate medical image segmentation.Furthermore, segmented images are classified as benign or malignant using the Decision Tree-Based Temporal Association Rule(DT-TAR)Algorithm.Comparative analysis with existing state-of-the-art models indicates that the proposed FCM-MIWPSO segmentation technique achieves a remarkable accuracy of 98.42%on the dataset, highlighting its significant impact on improving diagnostic capabilities in medical imaging. 展开更多

This study quantifies biomass, aboveground and belowground net productivity, along with additional environmental factors over a 2-3 year period in Barnawapara Sanctuary of Chhattisgarh, India through satellite remotesensing and GIS techniques. Ten sampling quadrates20×20, 5×5 and 1×1 m were randomly laid for overstorey (OS), understorey (US) and ground vegetation(GS), respectively. Girth of trees was measured at breast height and collar diameters of shrubs and herbs at 0.1 m height. Biomass was estimated using allometric regression equations and herb biomass by harvesting. Net primary productivity (NPP) was determined by Ssumming biomass increment and litter crop values. Aspect and slope influenced the vegetation types, biomass and NPP in different forests. Standing biomass and NPP varied from 18.6 to101.5 Mg ha^(-1) and 5.3 to 12.7 Mg ha^(-1) a^(-1), respectively,in different forest types. The highest biomass was found in dense mixed forest, while net production recoded in Teak forests. Both were lowest in degraded mixed forests of different forest types. OS, US and GS contributed 90.4, 8.7and 0.7%, respectively, for the total mean standing biomass in different forests. This study developed spectral models for the estimation of biomass and NPP using Normalized Difference Vegetation Index and other vegetation indices. The study demonstrated the potential of geospatial tools for estimation of biomass and net productivity of dry tropical forest ecosystem. 展开更多

Deposition of protein and metal ions (Fe, Zn) in rice grains is a complex polygenic trait showing considerable environmental effect. To analyze the effect of nitrogen application levels and native soil properties on rice grain protein, iron (Fe) and zinc (Zn) contents, 32 rice genotypes were grown at three different locations each under 80 and 120 kg/hm2 nitrogen fertilizer applications. In treatments with nitrogen fertilizer application, the brown rice grain protein content (GPC) increased significantly (1.1% to 7.0%) under higher nitrogen fertilizer application (120 kg/hm2) whereas grain Fe/Zn contents showed non-significant effect of nitrogen application level, thus suggesting that the rate of uptake and translocation of macro-elements does not influence the uptake and translocation of micro-elements. The pH, organic matter content and inherent Fe/Zn levels of native soil showed significant effects on grain Fe and Zn contents of all the rice genotypes. Grain Zn content of almost all the tested rice genotypes was found to increase at Location III having loamy soil texture, neutral pH value (pH 6.83) and higher organic matter content than the other two locations (Locations I and II), indicating significant influence of native soil properties on brown rice grain Zn content while grain Fe content showed significant genotype × environment interaction effect. Genotypic difference was found to be the most significant factor to affect grain Fe/Zn contents in all the tested rice genotypes, indicating that although native soil properties influence phyto-availability of micronutrients and consequently influencing absorption, translocation and grain deposition of Fe/Zn ions, yet genetic makeup of a plant determines its response to varied soil conditions and other external factors. Two indica rice genotypes R-RF-31 (27.62 μg/g grain Zn content and 7.80% GPC) and R1033-968-2-1 (30.05 μg/g grain Zn content and 8.47% GPC) were identified as high grain Zn and moderate GPC rice genotypes. These results indicate that soil property and organic matter content increase the availability of Fe and Zn in rhizosphere, which in turn enhances the uptake, translocation and redistribution of Fe/Zn into rice grains. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Gallbladder cancer(GBC)is one of the leading and aggressive cancers in this region of India. It is very difficult to diagnose in the early stage,as it lacks typical early signs and symptoms;thus, the diagnosis is often in the advanced stage, which ultimately leads to a poor 5-year survival outcome.Tumor markers including carbohydrate antigen 19-9(CA 19-9),carcinoembryonic antigen(CEA),CA 125,CA 242,and alpha fetoprotein are used as indicators in the diagnosis and prognosis of GBC.AIM To compare tumor marker levels between GBC and benign GB diseases(GBDs)and to assess the combined use of tumor markers to increase the diagnostic accuracy for GBC.METHODS Patients of either sex aged≥18 years, with suspected GBC(GB polyp, irregular thick GB wall,GB mass, porcelain GB)on the basis of radiological imaging were included in this study.GB wall thickness using ultrasonography and tumor markers CEA,CA 125,CA 19-9,and CA 242 in all patients were recorded. All cases after surgical intervention were divided into two groups,GBC and benign GBD,according to histopathological examination findings. The cases were followed up and clinical findings, radiological findings, and levels of tumor markers were assessed.RESULTS A total of 200 patients were included in this study,of whom 80 patients had GBC and 120 patients had benign GBD.The median(interquartile range)age was 52.0(41.0-60.0)years and the majority of patients(132,66.0%)were women.Tumor markers including CA 19-9,CA 125,CEA,and CA 242 were significantly elevated in patients with GBC(P<0.001).There was a significant reduction in tumor markers at 3 and 6 mo from baseline(P<0.001).The mean survival of patients with normal and elevated levels of tumor markers CA 125,CA 19-9,and CEA was comparable;however lymph node metastasis and CA 242 expression level were independent prognostic factors.CONCLUSION Serum levels of tumor markers including CA 19-9,CA 125,CEA,and CA 242 were significantly associated with GBC.However,no significant association was observed between the presence of elevated levels of any tumor marker with respect to survival.Tumor marker assessment during follow-up may represent a treatment response. 展开更多

The purpose of this study was to characterize the land use, vegetation structure, and diversity in the Barnowpara Sanctuary, Raipur district, Chhattisgarh, India through the use of satellite remote sensing and GIS. Land cover and vegetation were spatially analyzed by digitally classifying IRS 1D LISS III satellite data using a maximum likelihood algorithm. Later, the variations in structure and diversity in different forest types and classes were quantified by adopting quadratic sampling proce- dures. Nine land-cover types were delineated: teak forest, dense mixed forest, degraded mixed forest, Sal mixed forest, open mixed forest, young teak plantation, grasslands, agriculture, habitation, and water bodies. The classification accuracy for different land-use classes ranged from 71.23% to 100%. The highest accuracy was observed in water bodies and grass- land, followed by habitation and agriculture, teak forest, degraded mixed forest, and dense mixed forest. The accuracy was lower in open mixed forest, and sal mixed forest. Results revealed that density of different forest types varied from 324 to 733 trees ha-l, basal area from 8.13 to 28.87 m2.ha-1 and number of species from 20 to 40. Similarly, the diversity ranged from 1.36 to 2.98, concentration of dominance from 0.06 to 0.49, species richness from 3.88 to 6.86, and beta diversity from 1.29 to 2.21. The sal mixed forest type recorded the highest basal area, diversity was highest in the dense mixed forest, and the teak forest recorded maximum density, which was poor in degraded mixed forests. The study also showed that Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) was strongly cor- related to with the Shannon Index and species richness. 展开更多

We show the results of first-principles calculations of structural, phonon, elastic, thermal and electronic properties of the Mg-X inter-metallics in their respective ground state phase and meta-stable phases at equilibrium geometry and the studied pressure range.Phonon dispersion spectra for these compounds were investigated by using the linear response technique. The phonon spectra do not show any abnormality in their respective ground state phase. The respective ground states phases of the studied system remain stable within the studied pressure range.Electronic and thermodynamic properties were derived by analysis of the electronic structures and quasi-harmonic approximation. The mixed bonding character of the Mg-X intermetallics is revealed by Mg-X bonds, and it leads the metallic nature. Most of the contribution originated from X ions d like states at Fermi level compared to that of Mg ion in these intermetallics. In this work,we also predicted the melting temperature of these intermetallics and evaluated the Debye temperature by using elastic constants. 展开更多

Phenomena of reflection and refraction of plane harmonic waves at a plane interface between an elastic solid and doubleporosity dual-permeability material are investigated. The elastic solid behaves non-dissipatively, while double-porosity dual-permeability materials behave dissipatively to wave propagation due to the presence of viscosity in pore fluids. All the waves(i.e., incident and reflected) in an elastic medium are considered as homogeneous(i.e., having the same directions of propagation and attenuation), while all the refracted waves in double-porosity dual-permeability materials are inhomogeneous(i.e., having different directions of propagation and attenuation). The coefficients of reflection and refraction for a given incident wave are obtained as a non-singular system of linear equations. The energy shares of reflected and refracted waves are obtained in the form of an energy matrix. A numerical example is considered to calculate the partition of incident energy among various reflected and refracted waves. The effect of incident direction on the partition of the incident energy is analyzed with a change in wave frequency, wave-induced fluid-flow, pore-fluid viscosity and double-porosity structure. It has been confirmed from numerical interpretation that during the reflection/refraction process, conservation of incident energy is obtained at each angle of incidence. 展开更多

DMR-249 A is an indigenously developed high strength low alloy steel for Indian ship building industry for making ship-hull and is extensively used in the construction of war ships and submarines. Welding electrodes conforming to SFA 5.5 AWS E8018 C1 has been indigenously developed for welding of this steel using shielded metal arc welding process. In the present study, susceptibility to hydrogen assisted cracking of DMR-249 A steel welds made using this electrode has been assessed using implant test. Implant tests were conducted using this electrode at two different levels of diffusible hydrogen, measured using gas chromatography technique. It is observed that both the steel and the welding consumable are not susceptible to hydrogen assisted cracking even with a high diffusible hydrogen level of 9 m L/100 g of weld metal. In implant tests, specimen did not fracture even after loading to stress levels higher than the yield strength of the base metal. The good resistance of this steel and the welding consumable, even with high levels of diffusible hydrogen, is attributed to absence of a susceptible microstructure in both the weld metal and heat affected zone. Hence, this study shows that, in the absence of a susceptible microstructure, hydrogen assisted cracking is unlikely to occur even if hydrogen level is high. It also confirms that in welding of DMR-249 A with indigenously developed E8018 C1 electrode, hydrogen assisted cracking is not a concern and no preheating is required to avoid it during welding. 展开更多

Geant4 based Monte Carlo study has been carried out to assess the improvement in efficiency of the planar structure of Silicon Carbide(SiC)-based semiconductor fast neutron detector with the stacked structure. A proton recoil detector was simulated, which consists of hydrogenous converter, i.e., high-density polyethylene(HDPE) for generating recoil protons by means of neutron elastic scattering(n, p) reaction and semiconductor material SiC, for generating a detectable electrical signal upon transport of recoil protons through it. SiC is considered in order to overcome the various factors associated with conventional Si-based devices such as operability in a harsh radiation environment, as often encountered in nuclear facilities. Converter layer thickness is optimized by considering 10~9 neutron events of different monoenergetic neutron sources as well as ^(241)Am-Be neutron spectrum. It is found that the optimized thickness for neutron energy range of 1–10 MeV is ~400 μm. However, the efficiency of fast neutron detection is estimated to be only 0.112%,which is considered very low for meaningful and reliable detection of neutrons. To overcome this problem, a stacked juxtaposition of converter layer between SiC layers has been analyzed in order to achieve high efficiency. It is noted that a tenfold efficiency improvement has been obtained—1.04% for 10 layers stacked configuration vis-à-vis 0.112% of single converter layer detector. Further simulation of the stacked detector with respect to variable converter thickness has been performed to achieve the efficiency as high as ~3.85% with up to 50 stacks. 展开更多

The present work deals with the reflection of plane seismic waves at the stress-free plane surface of double-porosity dualpermeability material. The incidence of two main waves(i.e., P1 and SV) is considered. As a result of the incident waves, four reflected(three longitudinal and one shear) waves are found in the medium. The expressions of reflection coefficients for a given incident wave are obtained as a non-singular system of linear equations. The energy shares of reflected waves are obtained in the form of an energy matrix. A numerical example is considered to calculate the partition of incident energy for fully closed as well as perfectly open pores. Effect of incident direction on the partition of the incident energy is analyzed with the change in wave frequency, wave-induced fluid-flow, pore-fluid viscosity and double-porosity structure. It has been confirmed from the numerical interpretation that during the reflection process, conservation of incident energy is obtained at each angle of incidence. 展开更多
