Channel Simulation of Non-imaging Optical MIMO Communication

This paper reports a channel simulation of an indoor optical wireless multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) system with non-imaging receivers. The system consists of a 2×2 array of white light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and 2×2 array of PDs. An overview of the model specifications, channel impulse response and channel capacity are demonstrated in this paper. The distribution of the first reflection is analyzed. The effect of SNR and the location of receivers on non-imaging optical MIMO communications are investigated. In addition, by moving the receivers, the optimal location of the communication is found.

Real-time Audio &Video Transmission System Based on Visible Light Communication

With the increasing popularity of solid sate lighting devices, Visible Light Communication (VLC) is globally recognized as an advanced and promising technology to realize short-range, high speed as well as large capacity wireless data transmission. In this paper, we propose a prototype of real-time audio and video broadcast system using inexpensive commercially available light emitting diode (LED) lamps. Experimental results show that real-time high quality audio and video with the maximum distance of 3 m can be achieved through proper layout of LED sources and improvement of concentration effects. Lighting model within room environment is designed and simulated which indicates close relationship between layout of light sources and distribution of illuminance.

Power-Minimizing Resource Allocation in Multiuser Cooperative Relay Communications

In this paper, we investigate the power-minimizing resource allocation problem in multiuser cooperative relay communication systems. A joint optimization problem involving subcarrier assignment, relay selection and power allocation is formulated. Since the problem cannot be solved directly, we decompose it into three subproblems. According to the equivalent channel gains and the target rates of users, the subcarrier assignment and relay selection are conducted. Motivated by the water-filling algorithm, we propose a power allocation algorithm with cooperative features. Simulations results indicate that the proposed algorithm performs better in terms of the total transmit power consumption than the existing algorithms.

Quality of experience based scheduling algorithm in LTE network with various traffics

Quality of experience （ QoE ） based scheduling algorithm of long term evalution （ LTE ） network with various traffics is studied. Utility functions are adopted to estimate mean opinion score （MOS） for different traffics and a new MOS metric called normalized MOS is defined. A scheduling algorithm based on normalized MOS and greedy algorithm is proposed, aiming at maximizing the entirety MOS level of the whole users in the cell. We compare the performance of the proposed algorithm with other typical scheduling algorithms and the simulation results show that the algorithm pro- posed outperform other ones in term of QoE and fairness.

Design and implementation of scenic-spot introduction-task-oriented3D virtual human spoken dialogue system

A scenic-spot introduction-task-oriented 3D virtual human spoken dialogue system-- EasyGuide is introduced. The system includes five modules： natural language processing, task do- main knowledge database, dialogue management, voice processing and 3D virtual human text-to-vis- ual speech synthesis. In the first module, dictionary construction along with sentence analysis and semantic representation axe illustrated specifically. A tree-structured knowledge database is designed for the task domain. A novel framework based on the keyword analysis and context constraints is proposed as the dialogue management. As for voice processing module, a software development kit which performs speech recognition and synthesis is introduced briefly. In the last module, 3D viseme synthesis is explained with examples and a text-driven facial animation system is presented. Evalua- tion results show that the system can achieve satisfactory performance.

Resource Allocation for OFDMA-MIMO Relay Systems with Proportional Fairness Constraints

In this paper, we study resource allocation problem in orthogonal frequency division multiple access multiple-input multiple-output (OFDMA-MIMO) relay systems and formulate the optimal instantaneous resource allocation problem including subcarrier assignment, relay selection and power allocation to maximize system capacity. Based on the assumption that the availability of perfect channel state information (CSI) is known at the resource allocation controller, we propose a new resource allocation algorithm which can guarantee proportional fairness among users. In the proposed algorithm, a two-step suboptimal method is taken into account. Firstly, we assume equal power allocation for each user to linearize the problem and propose the subcarrier assignment and relay selection scheme based on equivalent channel gain. Secondly, we derive the closed-form expressions for power allocation through relaxing the proportional fairness constraints. Numerical simulations show that the proposed algorithm performs well in terms of satisfying proportional fairness among users in strict sense and achieving improvement on system total capacity.

Determination of Volume Conductivity of Polyethylene Using Positive Corona, When the Current through the Sample Depends Linearly on Grid Potential

In this paper we determine for the first time the volume conductivity of polyethylene (of 40 μm and 50 μm thickness), using the positive corona triode. A general theory of flowing of the current through the sample, when it depends linearly on the grid potential, is formulated. A concrete methodology for the definition of volume conductivity is composed. The volume conductivity of polyethylene lies within the interval: . These results obtained using the corona triode are closely similar to those obtained using the standardized “static” methods, thus showing its superiority to the “dynamic” method of electronic radiation.

Design of Wireless Optical Access System using LED

This paper develops a prototype to demonstrate a full-duplex wireless visible light communication (VLC) system based on Universal Serial Bus (USB) port. Combing with a USB 2.0 port on one board, it can achieve up to 2 Mbps bit rates error free, which is mainly limited to the USB bridge circuit, between two computers for data transmission, such as text, audio and video. Hyper Terminal and self-written software are used to allow setting the transmission data rate, control bits, check bits and achieve real-time transmission between any two mobile devices with a USB port. The work is based on the research of VLC local access network. This paper also shows the experimental results and the relationship between system transmission eye diagram and bit rate.

Effect of Polarity on Volume Conductivity of Polymers, Determined by Corona Triode Method

In this paper, the effect of polarity on the volume conductivity of Kapton and polyethylene (PE), determined using the corona triode method, when the sample current depends linearly on grid potential, was studied. For the determination of volume conductivity, in addition to the analytical method, for the first time, a graphical method is presented as well. According to the experimental results, obtained by both methods, the volume conductivity values of negative corona charged samples were higher than those of the samples charged by positive corona. Considering the different nature of positive and negative coronas, these differences in results are to be expected and are in full accordance with the theoretical considerations as well. On the other hand, the good agreement between the analytical method results and those obtained by the graphical method, indicates high accuracy of the proposed analytical formula. Meanwhile, the satisfying accordance of experimental results with those found by the classical “static” and “dynamic” methods, confirms the accuracy of the corona method, for the determination of volume conductivity of polymers.

Determination of Volume Conductivity of Thin Polymeric Films Using Corona Triode, When the Current through the Sample Depends Quadratically on Grid Potential

In this paper is determined the volume conductivity of thin polymeric films using the corona triode method, when the current through the sample exhibits a quadratic dependence on the grid potential. Based on the experimental data, for the first time, an effective methodology for the determination of volume conductivity, graphically and analytically, is composed. The results obtained by the proposed analytical formula, for polypropylene and Trespaphan, with two different configurations of structures, are closely similar to the graphical method results. In addition, the satisfying accordance of our results, with the results, found out with the consulted literature, obtained by the “static” methods, confirms the accuracy of the proposed methodology, for the determination of volume conductivity of thin polymeric films, using the corona triode.

Wavelet network based predistortion method for wideband RF power amplifiers exhibiting memory effects

RF power amplifiers (PAs) are usually considered as memoryless devices in most existing predistortion techniques. Nevertheless, in wideband communication systems, PA memory effects can no longer be ignored and memoryless predistortion cannot linearize PAs effectively. After analyzing PA memory effects, a novel predistortion method based on wavelet networks (WNs) is proposed to linearize wideband RF power amplifiers. A complex wavelet network with tapped delay lines is applied to construct the predistorter and then a complex backpropagation algorithm is developed to train the predistorter parameters. The simulation results show that compared with the previously published feed-forward neural network predistortion method, the proposed method provides faster convergence rate and better performance in reducing out-of-band spectral regrowth.

Impulse Radio UWB Signal Detection Based on Compressed Sensing

The extremely high sampling rate is a challenge for ultra-wideband (UWB) communication. In this paper, we study the compressed sensing (CS) based impulse radio UWB (IR-UWB) signal detection and propose an IR-UWB signal detection algorithm based on compressive sampling matching pursuit (CoSaMP). The proposed algorithm relies on the fact that UWB received signal is sparse in the time domain. The new algorithm can significantly reduce the sampling rate required by the detection and provides a better performance in case of the low signal-to-noise ratio when comparing with the existing matching pursuit (MP) based detection algorithm. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
