2 μm mid-infrared optical spectra of Tm3+-doped germanium gallate glasses 被引量:1

Glasses with the composition of 65GeO212Ga2O3-10BaO-8Li2O-5La2O3(molar ratio) doped with 1.526 wt.%, 3.006 wt.%, 5.836 wt.%, 11.028 wt.%, and 15.678 wt.% Tm2O3, respectively, were fabricated by conventional melting me... Glasses with the composition of 65GeO212Ga2O3-10BaO-8Li2O-5La2O3(molar ratio) doped with 1.526 wt.%, 3.006 wt.%, 5.836 wt.%, 11.028 wt.%, and 15.678 wt.% Tm2O3, respectively, were fabricated by conventional melting method. According to the absorption spectra and the Judd-Ofelt theory, the J-O strength parameters (Ω2,Ω4, Ω6) were calculated, with which the radiative transition probabilities,branching ratios and radiative lifetimes were obtained. The infrared emission spectra (with 808 nm LD excitation) at~1.47 and~1.8 μm of various concentrations of Tm3+-doped glasses were studied. The emission intensity at~1.8 μm reached to the maximum when the Tm2O3-doping concentration was near to be~3.006 wt.% (1.0 mol.%), and then decreased as doping concentration increased further. The mechanism of the fluorescence intensity change was explained with the cross-relaxation effect and the concentration quenching effect of Tm3+. Meanwhile, according to McCumber theory, the absorption and emission cross-sections corresponding to the 3F4→3H6 transitions of Tm3+ at 1.8 μm was obtained. For Tm3+-doped germanate glasses, the maximum emission cross-section reached a value higher than that re-ported for fluorozircoaluminate glasses. It is expected to be a favorable candidate host for~2.0 μm mid-inflated laser because the glass shows favorable optical spectra. 展开更多

X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, photoluminescence spectra were used to characterize their structural and luminescent properties. Near-infrared quantum cutting from the films was observed via a cooperative energy transfer from Ce3+ to Yb3+ ions. The high quantum efficiency of the films implies that Ce3+,Yb3+ co-doped Y3A15O12 films have potential application by tuning the solar spectrum to enhance the efficiency of silicon solar cells. 展开更多

Polycrystalline Gd2(MoO4)3:Dy3+ phosphors have been synthesized by high temperature solid-state reaction method. The phosphors were characterized with X-ray diffractometer, thermogravimetric analysis and different scanning calorimeter, scanning electron microscopy, and photoluminescence spectrofluorimeter. Several peaks at 351, 389, 425, 452, and 472 nm appeared in photoluminescence excitation spectrum, which matched well with the emission of the ultraviolet (UV) and blue-light emitting diode (LED) chips. Upon excitation at 389 nm UV light, intense emissions centered at 484, 575 and 668 nm were attributed to the transitions of 4F9/2→6H15/2, 4F9/2→6H13/2 and 4F9/2→6H11/2 of Dy3+, respectively. The chromaticity coordinates and correlative color temperatures have been calculated and presented in the Commission International de I’Eclairage (CIE) diagrams. The results indicated that Gd1.9(MoO4)3:Dy0.13+ with CIE coordinates of (x=0.38, y=0.41) and the correlative color temperature of 4134 K is a potential candidate for white LEDs. 展开更多

Encoding information in light polarization is of great importance in facilitating optical data storage(ODS)for information security and data storage capacity escalation.However,despite recent advances in nanophotonic techniques vastly en-hancing the feasibility of applying polarization channels,the data fidelity in reconstructed bits has been constrained by severe crosstalks occurring between varied polarization angles during data recording and reading process,which gravely hindered the utilization of this technique in practice.In this paper,we demonstrate an ultra-low crosstalk polarization-en-coding multilayer ODS technique for high-fidelity data recording and retrieving by utilizing a nanofibre-based nanocom-posite film involving highly aligned gold nanorods(GNRs).With parallelizing the gold nanorods in the recording medium,the information carrier configuration minimizes miswriting and misreading possibilities for information input and output,respectively,compared with its randomly self-assembled counterparts.The enhanced data accuracy has significantly im-proved the bit recall fidelity that is quantified by a correlation coefficient higher than 0.99.It is anticipated that the demon-strated technique can facilitate the development of multiplexing ODS for a greener future. 展开更多

The Er^3+/Yb^3+ co-doped TeO2-Nb2O5-Li2O glass is prepared by conventional melting method, and its upconversion spectra are measured. The intense green upconversion luminescence upon excitation with a 976 nm laser diode is observed with the naked eyes. The dependence of luminescence intensity on the ratio of Yb^3+/Er^3+ is discussed in detail, and the relationship between the ratio of green luminescence intensity to red luminescence intensity and the ratio of Yb^3+/Er^3+ is also studied, The luminescence intensity increases with the ratio of Yb^3+/Er^3+ increasing. The ratio of Yb^3+/Er^3+ plays a more important role than the concentration of Er^3+ in determining the upconversion luminescence intensity. The ratio of green luminescence intensity to red luminescence intensity reaches a maximum when ratio of Yb^3+/Er^3+ is 3. Thus the glass could be one of the potential candidates for LD pumping solid-state lasers. 展开更多

The structural and luminescence properties of nanocrystalline ZrO2 :Er^3+ films are reported. Transparent nano-ZrO2 crystalline films doped with Er^3+ have been prepared using a wet chemistry process. An intense roomtemperature emission at 1527nm with a full width at half-maximum of 46 nm has been observed, which is assigned to the ^4Ⅰ13/2 → ^4Ⅰ15/2 intra-4f^n electric transition of Er^3+. Correlations between the luminescence properties and structures of the nanocrystalline ZrO2 :Er^3+ films have been investigated. Infrared-to-visible upconversion occurs simultaneously upon excitation of a commercially available 980-nm laser diode and the involved mechanisms have also been explained. The results indicate that the nanocrystalline ZrO2:Er^3+ films might be suggested as promising materials for achieving broadband Er^3+-doped waveguide amplifiers and upconversion waveguide lasers. 展开更多

Effect of Network Modifiers on Spectroscopic Properties of Erbium-doped Phosphate Glasses

The integrated absorption cross section Σ abs, peak emis sion cross section σ emi, Judd-Ofeld intensity parameters Ω t(t=2,4,6), and spontaneous emission probability A R of Er 3+ ions were determined fo r Erbium doped alkali and alkaline earth phosphate glasses. It is found the comp ositional dependence of σ emi is almost similar to that of Σ abs, wh ich is determined by the sum of Ω t (3Ω 2+10Ω 4+21Ω 6). In addition, the compositional dependence of Ω t was studied in these glass systems. As a resu lt, compared with Ω 4 and Ω 6, the Ω 2 has a stronger compositional depend ence on the ionic radius and content of modifiers. The covalency of Er-O bonds in phosphate glass is weaker than that in silicate glass, germanate glass, alumi nate glass, and tellurate glass, since Ω 6 of phosphate glass is relatively la rge. A R is affected by the covalency of the Er 3+ ion sites and correspon ds to the Ω 6 value. 展开更多

Laser-diode excited intense upconversion luminescence of Er^3+ in bismuth-lead-germanate glasses

We have investigated infrared-to-visible upconversion luminescence of Er^3+ in bismuth-lead-germanate glasses. The UV cutoff wavelength is shortened while its lifetime is increased almost linearly, with PbF2 substituting for PbO in the bismuth-lead germanate glasses. Three emissions centred at around 529, 545 and 657 nm are clearly observed, which are identified as originating from the ^2H11/2→^4 I15/2,^4S3/2→^4 I15/2 and ^4 F9/2 →^4 I15/2 transitions, respectively. It is noted that all the upconversion emission intensities increase with PbF2 concentration increasing. The ratio between the intensities of red and green emissions increases with the increasing of PbF2 content. Energy transfer processes and nonradiative phonon-assisted decays account for the populations of the ^2 H11/2,^4 S3/2 and ^4F 9/2 levels. The quadratic dependence of fluorescence on excitation laser power confirms a two-photon process to contribute to the upconversion emissions. 展开更多

The tellurite glasses were prepared by conventional melting methods. Their optical properties and sensitization upconversion spectra were performed. The dependence of green upconversion luminescence intensity on the mole ratio of Yb 3+ to Er 3+ and Er 3+ concentration were discussed in detail. When the mole ratio of Yb 3+ to Er 3+ is 25/1 and Er 3+ concentration is 0.1% (mole fraction), or when the mole ratio of Yb 3+ to Er 3+ is 10/1 and Er 3+ concentration is 0.15%, the optimal upconversion luminescence intensity is obtained. The obtained glasses can be one of the potential candidates for lasers-diode pumping microchip solid-state lasers. 展开更多

We experimentally investigate the laser characteristics of a series of short pieces of newly-developed Er^3+/ Yb^3+ codoped single mode phosphate glass fibres via the cladding pump of a 976nm multimode laser diode. A stable continuous-wave single transverse mode laser with over 85 m W at 1553nm is generated from a 5.5-em-long active fibre. Single mode laser output power per unit length is up to 15 mW/cm. Moreover, the slope efficiency is 11.8% when the pump power is below 940mW and the 3dB linewidth is 0.06nm at the maximum pump power. The numerical simulation results show that the laser emission slope efficiency can exceed 20% by means of increasing the coupling efficiency of the pump to the fibre core further. 展开更多

A method of fabricating selenium(Se) microwire is demonstrated.A multimaterial fiber with amorphous selenium(a-Se) core and multicomponent phosphate glass cladding is drawn by using a conventional optical fiber drawing technique.Then the a-Se core of the fiber is crystallized by a post thermal process at 150 ℃.After the multicomponent phosphate glass cladding is stripped from the multimaterial fiber by marinating the fiber in HF acid solution,a crystalline selenium(c-Se)microwire with high uniformity and smooth surface is obtained.Based on microstructure measurements,the c-Se microwire is identified to consist of most hexagonal state particles and very few trigonal state whiskers.The good photoconduction property of c-Se microwire with high quality and longer continuous length makes it possible to apply to functional devices and arrays. 展开更多

We report the spectroscopic properties and thermal stability of Tm^3+-doped Ga2O3-GeO2-Bi2O3-PbO(PbF2) glasses for 1.47-μm optical amplifications. Effects of PbF2 doping on the optical properties and thermal stability of Tm^3+ -doped gallate-germanium-bismuth-lead glass are inestigated. The measured peak wavelength and full width at half-maximum of the fluorescence are 1465nm and - 120 nm, respectively: Siguificant enhancement of the 1.47-μm emission and the lifetime of a a^3H4 level with increasing PbF2 doping have been observed. The presence of GeO2 provides two potentials of increasing the thermal stability and shortening the ultraviolet cutoff band of host glasses. 展开更多

A compact linearly polarized, low-noise, narrow-linewidth, single-frequency fiber laser at 1950nm is demonstrated. This compact fiber laser is based on a 21-mm-long homemade Tm3+-doped germanate glass fiber. Over 100-mW stable continuous-wave single transverse and longitudinal mode lasing at 195Ohm are achieved. The measured relative intensity noise is less than -135dB/Hz at frequencies over 5 MHz. The signal-to-noise ratio of the laser is larger than 72dB, and the laser linewidth is less than 6kHz, while the obtained linear polarization extinction ratio is higher than 22 dB. 展开更多
