The strain dependent characteristics of hard coatings make the vibration analysis of hard-coated composite structure become a challenging task. In this study, the modeling and the analysis method of a hard-coated composite beam was developed considering the strain dependent characteristics of coating material. Firstly, based on analyzing the properties of hard-coating material, a high order polynomial was adopted to characterize the strain dependent characteristics of coating materials. Then, the analytical model of a hard-coated composite beam was created by the energy method. Next, using the numerical method to solve the vibration response and the resonance frequencies of the composite beam, a specific calculation flow was also proposed. Finally,a cantilever beam coated with Mg O + Al2_O_3 hard coating was chosen as the study case; under different excitation levels, the resonance region responses and the resonance frequencies of the composite beam were calculated using the proposed method. The calculation results were compared with the experiment and the linear calculation, and the correctness of the created model was verified. The study shows that compared with the general linear calculation, the proposed method can still maintain an acceptable precision when the excitation level is larger. 展开更多

Structural health monitoring(SHM)is considered an effective approach to analyze the efficient working of several mechanical components.For this purpose,ultrasonic guided waves can cover long-distance and assess large infrastructures in just a single test using a small number of transducers.However,the working of the SHM mechanism can be affected by some sources of variations(i.e.,environmental).To improve the final results of ultrasonic guided wave inspections,it is necessary to highlight and attenuate these environmental variations.The loading parameters,temperature and humidity have been recognized as the core environmental sources of variations that affect the SHM sensing mechanism.Environmental temperature has the most significant influence on SHM results.There is still a need for extensive research to develop such a damage inspection approach that should be insensitive to environmental temperature variations.In this framework,the current research study will not only illuminate the effect of environmental temperature through different intelligent approaches but also suggest the standard mechanism to attenuate it in actual ultrasonic guided wave based SHM.Hence,the work presented in this article addresses one of the open research challenges that are the identification of the effect of environmental and operating conditions in practical applications of ultrasonic guided waves and impedance-based SHM. 展开更多

This paper studies the local dynamics of an SDOF system with quadratic and cubic stiffness terms,and with linear delayed velocity feedback.The analysis indicates that for a sufficiently large velocity feedback gain,the equilibrium of the system may undergo a number of stability switches with an increase of time delay,and then becomes unstable forever.At each critical value of time delay for which the system changes its stability,a generic Hopf bifurcation occurs and a periodic motion emerges in a one-sided neighbourhood of the critical time delay.The method of Fredholm alternative is applied to determine the bifurcating periodic motions and their stability.It stresses on the effect of the system parameters on the stable regions and the amplitudes of the bifurcating periodic solutions. 展开更多

The dynamic finite element model (FEM) of a prestressed concrete continuous box-girder bridge, called the Tongyang Canal Bridge, is built and updated based on the results of ambient vibration testing (AVT) using a real-coded accelerating genetic algorithm (RAGA). The objective functions are defined based on natural frequency and modal assurance criterion (MAC) metrics to evaluate the updated FEM. Two objective functions are defined to fully account for the relative errors and standard deviations of the natural frequencies and MAC between the AVT results and the updated FEM predictions. The dynamically updated FEM of the bridge can better represent its structural dynamics and serve as a baseline in long-term health monitoring, condition assessment and damage identification over the service life of the bridge . 展开更多

Two types of lay-ups of the composite wing, namely, circumferentially uniform stiffness (CUS) configuration and circumferentially asymmetric stiffness (CAS) configuration, are investigated. The present structural modeling method is validated through ANSYS FEM software for the case of a composite box beam. Then, the case of a single-cell composite wing with NACA0012 airfoil shape is considered. To investigate the aeroelastic problem of high-aspect-ratio composite wings, the linear ONERA aerodynamic model is used to model the unsteady aerodynamic loads under the case of small angle of attack. Finally, flutter speeds of the high-aspect-ratio wing with various composite ply angles are determined by using U-g method. 展开更多

In this paper, a modified averaging scheme is presented for a class of time-delayed vibration systems with slow variables. The new scheme is a combination of the averaging techniques proposed by Hale and by Lehman and Weibel, respectively. The averaged equation obtained from the modified scheme is simple enough but it retains the required information for the local nonlinear dynamics around an equilibrium. As an application of the present method, the delay value for which a secondary Hopf bifurcation occurs is successfully located for a delayed van der Pol oscillator. 展开更多

The behavior of joint may be random due to the random properties of preload and joint geometries, contact surface and its finish, etc. A method is presented to simulate the joint parameters as probabilistic variables. In this method the response surface based model updating method and probabilistic approaches are employed to identify the parameters. The study implies that joint parameters of some structures have normal or nearly normal distributions, and a linear FE model with probabilistic variables could illustrate dynamic characteristics of joints. 展开更多

For qualifying the anti-shock performance of shipboard equipments and simulating actual underwater explosion environments, a novel dual-wave shock test machine is proposed to increase testing capability of shock test machines as well as to meet certain shock testing specification. The machine can generate a double-pulse acceleration shock for test articles according to specification defined in BV043/85. On the basis of the impact theory, a nonlinear dynamic model of the hydraulically-actuated test machine is established with thorough analysis on its mechanism which involves conversion of gas potential energy and dissipation of kinetic energy. Simulation results have demonstrated that the machine can produce a double-pulse acceleration shock in the time domain or a desired shock response spectrum in the frequency domain, which sets a theoretical base for the construction of the proposed machine. 展开更多

The relationship between second-order cyclostationary method and time-frequency distribution is studied, and cyclic autocorrelation(CA) function is indicated to be one sort of special time-frequency distribution method. Furthermore, a fault diagnosis method for reciprocating compressors based on empirical mode decomposition (EMD) and CA function is proposed, and then it is applied to the fault diagnosis of reciprocating compressor valve. Firstly, the vibration signal of reciprocating compressor valve is decomposed by using ENID method, and several intrinsic mode functions (IMFs) are obtained. Secondly, the IMFs are evaluated by some denoising criterions to remove the noise and interfering ones. Finally, the CA functions of the remained IMFs are calculated, which will be used to reconstruct the CA function of the original vibration signal. Engineering application indicates that this method can sufficiently inhibit the cross-interference items of CA function. Therefore, more explicit working conditions of reciprocating compressor components can be achieved. 展开更多

Two different order reduction methods of the deterministic and stochastic systems are discussed in this paper.First,the transient proper orthogonal decomposition(T-POD)method is introduced based on the high-dimensional nonlinear dynamic system.The optimal order reduction conditions of the T-POD method are provided by analyzing the rotor-bearing system with pedestal looseness fault at both ends.The efficiency of the T-POD method is verified via comparing with the results of the original system.Second,the polynomial dimensional decomposition(PDD)method is applied to the 2 DOFs spring system considering the uncertain stiffness to study the amplitude-frequency response.The numerical results obtained by the PDD method agree well with the Monte Carlo simulation(MCS)method.The results of the PDD method can approximate to MCS better with the increasing of the polynomial order.Meanwhile,the Uniform-Legendre polynomials can eliminate perturbation of the PDD method to a certain extent via comparing it with the Gaussian-Hermite polynomials. 展开更多

A periodic solution of blades and fuselage is obtained through aeroelastic coupled trim using the temporal finite element method (TEM). The Peters dynamic inflow model is used for vehicle stability. A program for computation is developed, which produces the blade responses, hub loads, and rotor pitch controls. The correlation between the analytical results and related literature is good. Based on Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) coherence,a new method for the fault diagnosis of reciprocating compressor cylinder is presented. Firstly,double channel signals of cylinder and valve are synchronously sampled. Secondly,cyclic cross-correlation function is used to eliminate the time delay between these signals. Finally,EMD coherence method is utilized to remove the interference components from cylinder signal. Thus,more concise and precise working condition information for cylinder and inner components can be obtained. Because of the correlation of images,the efficiency of the standard ICA is not satisfied in the blind source separation (BSS) of image.Therefore,a new method of sub-band ICA with selection criterion is proposed for this problem.Firstly,the sub-bands of the new method are made up of the wavelet packets (WP) coefficients.Secondly,the selection criterion of the new method is a combination of the mutual information (MI),kurtosis and sparsity.One sub-band or a sub-bands group obtained from the new method are more suitable as the inputs parameters of the algorithm of ICA than mixed images.The new method has been applied into the BSS of partially dependent images and highly dependent images successfully.According to the separation experiments,it is shown that the separation efficacy of the new method is more accurate and robust. 展开更多

This paper deals with the co-existence of mixed aleatory and epistemic uncertainties in a wind turbine geared system for more reliable and robust vibration analyses.To this end,the regression-based polynomial chaos expansion(PCE)is used to track aleatory uncertainties,and the polynomial surrogate approach(PSA)is developed to treat the epistemic uncertainties.This non-intrusive dual-layer framework shares the same collocation pool,which is extracted from the Legendre series.Moreover,the regression technique has been implemented in both layers to enhance calculation efficiency.Numerical validation is carried out to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.New vibration behaviors of the geared transmission system are observed,and the mechanism behind is discussed in detail.The findings of this paper will contribute to the insightful understanding of such wind turbine geared systems under hybrid uncertainties and are beneficial for the condition monitoring. 展开更多

By establishing motion equations of each component of the regulator and simulating the dynamic behavior of the whole system, the shock wave regulator is demonstrated numerically to be able to change the width and amplitude of shock pulses. Prompt and easy adjustment can be achieved by changing the equivalent flow area of damping orifices and consequently the closing velocity of the flow area of a valve, which makes it applicable to different impact testing. 展开更多

Structural health monitoring(SHM)is recognized as an efficient tool to interpret the reliability of a wide variety of infrastructures.To identify the structural abnormality by utilizing the electromechanical coupling property of piezoelectric transducers,the electromechanical impedance(EMI)approach is preferred.However,in real-time SHM applications,the monitored structure is exposed to several varying environmental and operating conditions(EOCs).The previous study has recognized the temperature variations as one of the serious EOCs that affect the optimal performance of the damage inspection process.In this framework,an experimental setup is developed in current research to identify the presence of fatigue crack in stainless steel(304)beam using EMI approach and estimate the effect of temperature variations on the electrical impedance of the piezoelectric sensors.A regular series of experiments are executed in a controlled temperature environment(25°C–160°C)using 202 V1 Constant Temperature Drying Oven Chamber(Q/TBXR20-2005).It has been observed that the dielectric constantð"33 TÞwhich is recognized as the temperature-dependent constant of PZT sensor has sufficiently influenced the electrical impedance signature.Moreover,the effective frequency shift(EFS)approach is optimized in term of significant temperature compensation for the current impedance signature of PZT sensor relative to the reference signature at the extended frequency bandwidth of the developed measurement system with better outcomes as compared to the previous literature work.Hence,the current study also deals efficiently with the critical issue of the width of the frequency band for temperature compensation based on the frequency shift in SHM.The results of the experimental study demonstrate that the proposed methodology is qualified for the damage inspection in real-time monitoring applications under the temperature variations.It is capable to exclude one of the major reasons of false fault diagnosis by compensating the consequence of elevated temperature at extended frequency bandwidth in SHM. 展开更多

In the previous couple of decades,techniques to reap energy and empower low voltage electronic devices have received outstanding attention.Most of the methods based on the piezoelectric effect to harvest the energy from ambient vibrations have been revolutionized.There’s an absence of experiment-based investigation which incorporates the microstructure analysis and crystal morphology of those energy harvest home materials.Moreover,the impact of variable mechanical and thermal load conditions has seldom been studied within the previous literature to utilize the effectiveness of those materials in several practical applications like structural health monitoring(SHM),etc.In the proposed research work,scanning electron microscope(SEM)and energy dispersive x-ray(EDX)analysis are performed to examine the inside crystal morphology of PZT-5A and ensure the quality of the piezoelectric ceramic.Further,the performance of piezoelectric vibration-based energy harvester has been investigated in the second phase of current research work under the variable mechanical and thermal load conditions through a regular series of experiments.It’s been found that the output voltage of piezoelectric sensors will increase by increasing the applied load,whereas a decreasing trend in output voltage is noticed by increasing the applied temperature,resistance and frequency.Within the third part,a measuring setup is developed in the laboratory to further investigate the effectiveness of PZT-5A in practical applications such as electromechanical impedance(EMI)based structural health monitoring under the controlled heating environment.Therefore,this analysis not only evaluates the performance of PZT sensors under the variable operating conditions but also encourages developing a temperature compensation approach in EMI-based SHM. 展开更多
