The wettability changes for SDBS aqueous solutions on the surface of a silica gel or Kaolin powder were studied. The average aggregation number of the micelle in SDBS aqueous solution was measured by the fluorescence quenching method. Then the oil recovery of n-dodecane on the silica gel or the Kaolin surface was tested. The relationship between the wettability of the powder surface, the critical micelle concentration (CMC) of SDBS aqueous solution, and the mimic oil recovery of the resident oil on the powder surface has been explored. It has been found that the minimum contact angle (most hydrophilic condition) and the maximum oil recovery occurred near the critical micelle concentration (CMC) of SDBS while the in-terfacial tension between the SDBS solution and n-dodecane was far from ultra-low condition (≤10-3 mN · m-1).展开更多

The game, called "Divi-Divi-Dip" with 3 different body poses, is first introduced in a Korean TV prgrmn. It is well-known that microscale gaps or defects are ubiquitous and can be penetrated by vapor,resulting in the failure of superhydrophobic effect and undesired condensate flooding under high subcooling.Here,we propos...It is well-known that microscale gaps or defects are ubiquitous and can be penetrated by vapor,resulting in the failure of superhydrophobic effect and undesired condensate flooding under high subcooling.Here,we propose and demonstrate that such problem can be solved by the oblique arrangement of nanowires.Such a structure has been demonstrated to own anti-vapor-penetration and microdrop self-transport functions under high subcooling,unaffected by the microscale gaps.This is because vapor molecules can be intercepted by oblique nanowires and preferentially nucleate at near-surface locations,avoiding the penetration of vapor into the microscale gaps.As-formed microdrops can suspend upon the nanowires and have low solid-liquid adhesion.Besides,oblique nanowires can generate asymmetric surface tension and microdrop coalescence can release driving energy,both of which facilitate the microdrop self-removal via sweeping and jumping ways.This new design idea helps develop more advanced condensation mass and heat transfer interfaces.展开更多

Our aim is to use human-centered modeling as a strategy for adaptive games based on entertainment measure to evaluate the playing experience. We utilized a self-organizing map (SOM) to cluster the player's style with the data obtained while playing the game. We further argued that style-based adaptation contributes to higher enjoyment, and this is reflected in our experiment using a supervised multilayered perceptron (MLP) network.展开更多
Previously we have designed and implemented new image browsing facilities to support effective offiine image contents on mobile devices with limited capabilities: low bandwidth, small display, and slow processing. In...Previously we have designed and implemented new image browsing facilities to support effective offiine image contents on mobile devices with limited capabilities: low bandwidth, small display, and slow processing. In this letter, we fulfill the automatic production of cartoon contents fitting small-screen display, and introduce a clustering method useful for various types of cartoon images as a prerequisite stage for preserving semantic meaning. The usage of neural networks is to properly cut the various forms of pages. Texture information that is useful for grayscale image segmentation gives us a good clue for page layout analysis using the multilayer perceptron (MLP) based x-y recursive algorithm. We also automatically frame the segment MLP using agglomerative segmentation. Our experimental results show that the combined approaches yield good results of segmentation for several cartoons.展开更多
