Aim: To study the contraceptive effect of the crude extracts of Curcuma longa in male albino rats. Methods: Rats were fed orally with Curcuma longa aqueous and 70 % alcoholic extract for 60 days (500 mg·kg-1· day-1). Results: A reduction in sperm motility and density was observed in both the treated groups. Conclusion: Curcuma longa may have affected the androgen synthesis either by inhibiting the Leydig cell function or the hypo-thalamus pituitary axis and as a result, spermatogenesis is arrested. 展开更多

An Integrated Geometric Modeling Methodology for 2.5D Cylindrical Prismatic Part for Computer Aided Process Planning

The field of solid modeling has created numerous techniques for unambiguous computer representations of three-dimensional objects. Its data structures and algorithms have been used in a broad range of applications: Computer-Aided Design and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAD/ CAM), robotics, computer vision, computer graphics and visualization, virtual reality, etc. This research paper is used to generate process plan from feature-based modeling, based on an integrated geometric modeling system that supports both feature-based modeling and information storage. Present system is developed only for milling components and limited to selective machining features for prismatic components and further implemented for more machining features to develop algorithms for modeling the components through the input of machining features. As a result, feature information is directly available to downstream activities, and feature extraction is no longer needed. The various systematic steps involved in this approach are study of Design, identification of Features, selection of Processes, Tools and Machines, Machining and Inspection [DFPTMMI]. Machining features generated in the design stage are recognized and stored under the Visual Basic control of CATIA software ActiveX interface. Algorithms are developed for individual features and these algorithms are embedded in Visual Basic forms. This system is discussed and suited for 2.5 Dimensional part approach, however, that can be extended to 3 dimensional prismatic part and complex features machining. Epizootic, Endemic and Pandemic Zoonotic Viral Infections

More than 60% human infectious diseases have zoonotic origin. Cross species transmission of pathogens is a continuous, dynamic process that occurs throughout the world, giving rise to epizootic (temporary, limited infection), endemic (on-going infection limited to a defined geographic region) and pandemic viral infections (infection spreading to every part of the world) like the current COVID-19 pandemic, which depends on the existing conditions on the ground. In Nov 2021, sudden mortality of numerous migrating demoiselle cranes was reported from their resting site near Jodhpur, Rajasthan. The symptomatic cranes became gradually weak and were unable to fly. They eventually fell dead which caused concern locally, given the current prevailing SARS-CoV-2 pandemic situation the world over. By the end of Dec 2021, the number of cranes with mortality and morbidity reduced, making it a temporary “epizootic infection”. Molecular diagnosis carried out at a specialized laboratory identified the etiological agent to be the highly pathogenic Avian Influenza Virus H5N1 (HPAIV), which has been responsible for morbidity of avian species from different parts of the world. There was no report of spreading the H5N1 AIV infection from the infected migratory cranes to nearby chicken farms or pig farms for now. In the absence of vaccines against the highly pathogenic H5N1 AIVs, and the inherent ability of influenza viruses, both avian AIV and human IAVs to constantly mutate its envelope gene or the surface antigens, resulting from the error-prone nature of the viral RNA Polymerase enzyme are the roadblocks for development of a universal, broad-spectrum influenza vaccine. Even when such a universal vaccine against H5N1 is available, vaccinating a large number of wild migratory cranes would be difficult. However, it is possible and indeed necessary to vaccinate chickens in poultry farms and pigs in farms that raise pigs for human consumption. 展开更多
