A novel double side friction stir Z shape lap-butt welding(DS-FSZW)process was proposed to achieve excellent mechanical properties of Al/Cu medium-thick dissimilar joints. The influence of welding parameters on weld microstructure and properties of DS-FSZW joint were systematically investigated. It indicated that defect-free medium-thick Al/Cu DS-FSZW joint could be achieved under an optimal welding parameter.DS-FSZW joint was prone to form void defects in the bottom of the second-pass weld. The recrystallization mechanisms at the top and middle of the weld nugget zone(WNZ)were continuous dynamic recrystallization(CDRX)and geometric dynamic recrystallization(GDRX).While the major recrystallization mechanism at the bottom of the WNZ was GDRX.DS-FSZW joint of the optimal welding condition with 850 r/min-400 mm/min was produced with a continuous thin and crack-free IMCs layer at the Al/Cu interface, and the maximum tensile strength of this joint is 160.57 MPa,which is equivalent to 65.54%of pure Cu base material. Moreover, the corrosion resistance of Al/Cu DS-FSZW joints also achieved its maximum value at the optimal welding parameter of 850 r/min-400 mm/min.It demonstrates that the DS-FSZW process can simultaneously produce medium-thick Al/Cu joints with excellent mechanical performance and corrosion resistance. 展开更多

The snap-through behaviors and nonlinear vibrations are investigated for a bistable composite laminated cantilever shell subjected to transversal foundation excitation based on experimental and theoretical approaches. An improved experimental specimen is designed in order to satisfy the cantilever support boundary condition, which is composed of an asymmetric region and a symmetric region. The symmetric region of the experimental specimen is entirely clamped, which is rigidly connected to an electromagnetic shaker, while the asymmetric region remains free of constraint.Different motion paths are realized for the bistable cantilever shell by changing the input signal levels of the electromagnetic shaker, and the displacement responses of the shell are collected by the laser displacement sensors. The numerical simulation is conducted based on the established theoretical model of the bistable composite laminated cantilever shell, and an off-axis three-dimensional dynamic snap-through domain is obtained. The numerical solutions are in good agreement with the experimental results. The nonlinear stiffness characteristics, dynamic snap-through domain, and chaos and bifurcation behaviors of the shell are quantitatively analyzed.Due to the asymmetry of the boundary condition and the shell, the upper stable-state of the shell exhibits an obvious soft spring stiffness characteristic, and the lower stable-state shows a linear stiffness characteristic of the shell. 展开更多

Existing studies have focused on the behavior of the retaining wall equipped with expanded polystyrene(EPS)geofoam inclusions under semi-infinite surcharge loading rather than limited surcharge loading. In this paper, the failure mode and the earth pressure acting on the rigid retaining wall with EPS geofoam inclusions and granular backfills(henceforth referred to as EPS-wall),under limited surcharge loading are investigated through two-and three-dimensional model tests. The testing results show that different from the sliding of almost all the backfill in the EPS-wall under semi-infinite surcharge loading, only an approximately triangular backfill slides in the wall under limited surcharge loading. The distribution of the lateral earth pressure on the EPS-wall under limited surcharge loading is non-linear,and the distribution changes from the increase of the wall depth to the decrease with the increase of the limited surcharge loading. An approach based on the force equilibrium of a differential element is developed to predict the lateral earth pressure behind the EPS-wall subjected to limited surcharge loading, and its performance was fully validated by the three-dimensional model tests. 展开更多

Broadband vibration attenuation is a challenging task in engineering since it is difficult to achieve low-frequency and broadband vibration control simultaneously. To solve this problem, this paper designs a piezoelectric meta-beam with unidirectional electric circuits, exhibiting promising broadband attenuation capabilities. An analytical model in a closed form for achieving the solution of unidirectional vibration transmission of the designed meta-beam is developed based on the state-space transfer function method. The method can analyze the forward and backward vibration transmission of the piezoelectric meta-beam in a unified manner, providing reliable dynamics solutions of the beam. The analytical results indicate that the meta-beam effectively reduces the unidirectional vibration across a broad low-frequency range, which is also verified by the solutions obtained from finite element analyses. The designed meta-beam and the proposed analytical method facilitate a comprehensive investigation into the distinctive unidirectional transmission behavior and superb broadband vibration attenuation performance. 展开更多

Cells are capable of sensing and responding to the extracellular mechanical microenvironment via the actin skeleton. In vivo, tissues are frequently subject to mechanical forces, such as the rapid and significant shear flow encountered by vascular endothelial cells. However, the investigations about the transient response of intracellular actin networks under these intense external mechanical forces, their intrinsic mechanisms, and potential implications are very limited. Here,we observe that when cells are subject to the shear flow,an actin ring structure could be rapidly assembled at the periphery of the nucleus. To gain insights into the mechanism underlying this perinuclear actin ring assembly,we develop a computational model of actin dynamics. We demonstrate that this perinuclear actin ring assembly is triggered by the depolymerization of cortical actin,Arp2/3-dependent actin filament polymerization, and myosin-mediated actin network contraction.Furthermore,we discover that the compressive stress generated by the perinuclear actin ring could lead to a reduction in the nuclear spreading area,an increase in the nuclear height, and a decrease in the nuclear volume. The present model thus explains the mechanism of the perinuclear actin ring assembly under external mechanical forces and suggests that the spontaneous contraction of this actin structure can significantly impact nuclear morphology. 展开更多

Blade rubbing faults cause detrimental impact on the operation of aeroengines. Most of the existing studies on blade rubbing in the shaft-disk-blade-casing(SDBC) system have overlooked the elastic deformation of the blade, while some only consider the whirl of the rotor, neglecting its spin. To address these limitations, this paper proposes a dynamic model with large rotation for the SDBC system. The model incorporates the spin and whirl of the rotor, enabling the realistic reproduction of multiblade rubbing faults. To verify the accuracy of the SDBC model with large rotation and demonstrate its capability to effectively consider the rotational effects such as the centrifugal stiffening and gyroscopic effects, the natural characteristics and dynamic responses of the proposed model are compared with those obtained from reported research and experimental results. Furthermore, the effects of the rotating speed, contact stiffness, and blade number on the dynamic characteristics of the SDBC system with multi-blade rubbing are investigated. The results indicate that the phase angle between the rotor deflection and the unbalance excitation force increases with the increasing rotating speed, which significantly influences the rubbing penetration of each blade. The natural frequency of the SDBC system with rubbing constrain can be observed in the acceleration response of the casing and the torsional response of the shaft, and the frequency is related to the contact stiffness. Moreover, the vibration amplitude increases significantly with the product of the blade number under rubbing, and the rotating frequency approaches the natural frequency of the SDBC system. The proposed model can provide valuable insight for the fault diagnosis of rubbing in bladed rotating machinery. 展开更多

Wheel polygonal wear can immensely worsen wheel/rail interactions and vibration performances of the train and track, and ultimately, lead to the shortening of service life of railway components. At present,wheel/rail medium-or high-frequency frictional interactions are perceived as an essential reason of the high-order polygonal wear of railway wheels, which are potentially resulted by the flexible deformations of the train/track system or other external excitations. In this work, the effect of wheel/rail flexibility on polygonal wear evolution of heavy-haul locomotive wheels is explored with aid of the long-term wheel polygonal wear evolution simulations,in which different flexible modeling of the heavy-haul wheel/rail coupled system is implemented.Further, the mitigation measures for the polygonal wear of heavy-haul locomotive wheels are discussed. The results point out that the evolution of polygonal wear of heavy-haul locomotive wheels can be veritably simulated with consideration of the flexible effect of both wheelset and rails.Execution of mixed-line operation of heavy-haul trains and application of multicut wheel re-profiling can effectively reduce the development of wheel polygonal wear. This research can provide a deep-going understanding of polygonal wear evolution mechanism of heavy-haul locomotive wheels and its mitigation measures. 展开更多

To ensure an accurate selection of rolling guide shoe materials,an analysis of the intricate relationship between linear speed and wear is imperative.Finite element simulations and experimental measurements are employed to evaluate four distinct types of materials:polyurethane, rubber, polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE),and nylon. The speed-index of each material is measured, serving as a preparation for subsequent analysis.Furthermore, the velocity-wear factor is determined, providing insights into the resilience and durability of the material across varying speeds.Additionally,a wear model tailored specifically for viscoelastic bodies is explored, which is pivotal in understanding the wear mechanisms within the material.Leveraging this model, wear predictions are made under higher speed conditions, facilitating the choice of material for rolling guide shoes. To validate the accuracy of the model, the predicted degree of wear is compared with experimental data, ensuring its alignment with both theoretical principles and real-world performance. This comprehensive analysis has verified the effectiveness of the model in the selection of materials under high-speed conditions, thereby offering confidence in its reliability and ensuring optimal performance. 展开更多

We study the friction properties of interlayer bonded bilayer graphene by simulating the movement of a slider on the surface of bilayer graphene using molecular dynamics. The results show that the presence of the interlayer covalent bonds due to the local sp^(3) hybridization of carbon atoms in the bilayer graphene seriously reduces the frictional coefficient of the bilayer graphene surface to 30%,depending on the coverage of interlayer sp^(3) bonds and normal loads. For a certain coverage of interlayer sp3bonds,when the normal load of the slider reaches a certain value, the surface of this interlayer bonded bilayer graphene will lose the friction reduction effect on the slider. Our findings provide guidance for the regulation and manipulation of the frictional properties of bilayer graphene surfaces through interlayer covalent bonds, which may be useful for applications of friction related graphene based nanodevices. 展开更多

The chaotic dynamic snap-through and complex nonlinear vibrations are investigated in a rectangular asymmetric cross-ply bistable composite laminated cantilever shell,in cases of 1:2 inter-well internal resonance and primary resonance. The transverse foundation excitation is applied to the fixed end of the structure, and the other end is in a free state. The first-order approximate multiple scales method is employed to perform the perturbation analysis on the dimensionless two-degree-of-freedom ordinary differential motion control equation. The four-dimensional averaged equations are derived in both polar and rectangular coordinate forms.Deriving from the obtained frequency-amplitude and force-amplitude response curves,a detailed analysis is conducted to examine the impacts of excitation amplitude, damping coefficient, and tuning parameter on the nonlinear internal resonance characteristics of the system. The nonlinear softening characteristic is exhibited in the upper stable-state,while the lower stable-state demonstrates the softening and linearity characteristics.Numerical simulation is carried out using the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method, and a series of nonlinear response curves are plotted.Increasing the excitation amplitude further elucidates the global bifurcation and chaotic dynamic snap-through characteristics of the bistable cantilever shell. 展开更多

To explore the impact of wheel-rail excitation on the dynamic performance of axle box bearings,a dynamic model of the high-speed train including axle box bearings is developed.Subsequently, the dynamic response characteristics of the axle box bearing are examined. The investigation focuses on the acceleration characteristics of bearing vibration under excitation of track irregularities and wheel flats. In addition, experiments on both normal and faulty bearings are conducted separately, and the correctness of the model and some conclusions are verified.According to the research, track irregularity is unfavorable for bearing fault detection based on resonance demodulation.Under the same speed conditions, the acceleration peak of bearing is inversely proportional to the length of the wheel flat and directly proportional to its depth. The paper will contribute to a deeper understanding of the dynamic performance of axle box bearings. 展开更多

The dynamic vibration absorber with inerter and grounded stiffness(IGDVA)is used to control a two-scale system subject to a weak periodic perturbation. The vibration suppression effect is remarkable. The amplitude of the main system coupled with absorber is significantly reduced, and the high frequency vibration completely disappears.First, through the slow-fast analysis and stability theory,it is found that the stability of the autonomous system exerts a notable regulating effect on the vibration response of the non-autonomous system. After adding the dynamic vibrator absorber, the center in the autonomous system changes to an asymptotically stable focus, consequently suppressing the vibration in the non-autonomous system.Further research reveals that the parameters of the absorber affect the real parts of the eigenvalues of the autonomous system, thereby regulating the stability of the system.Transitioning from a qualitative standpoint to a quantitative approach,a comparison of the solutions before and after the introduction of the dynamic absorber reveals that, when the grounded stiffness ratio and the mass ratio of the dynamic absorber are not equal, the high-frequency part in the analytical solution disappears. As a result, this leads to a reduction in the amplitude of the trajectory, achieving a vibration reduction effect. 展开更多

A launching system with a filter cartridge structure was proposed to improve the muzzle velocity of the projectile. The combustion chamber of the launching system is divided into two fixed chambers, one is located in the breech chamber, and the other is arranged in the barrel. The breech chamber charge was ignited first, and the charges in the auxiliary chambers were ignited by the high-temperature,highpressure combustible gas trailing the projectile. In this way,the combustible gas in the auxiliary chambers could compensate for the pressure drop caused by the movement of the projectile. The proposed device features the advantage of launching a projectile with high muzzle velocity without exceeding the maximum pressure in the chamber. In order to obtain some internal ballistic characteristics of the launch system, some critical structure, such as the length of the filter cartridge auxiliary charge, the combustion degree of the propellant in the chamber, and the length of the barrel, are discussed. The experimental results show that with the increased auxiliary charge length,a pressure plateau or even a secondary peak pressure can be formed, which is less than the peak pressure. The projectile velocity increased by 23.57%,14.64%,and 7.65%when the diaphragm thickness was 0 mm,1 mm,and2 mm,respectively. The muzzle velocity of the projectile can be increased by 13.42%by increasing the length of the barrel.Under the same charge condition, with the increase of barrel length, the energy utilization rate of propellant increases by 28.64%. 展开更多

The so-called fourth-generation biodegradable vascular stent has become a research hotspot in thefield of bioengineering because of its good degradation ability and drug-loading characteristics. However, the preparationof polymer-degraded vascular stents is affected by known problem such as poor processflexibility, low formingaccuracy, large diameter wall thickness, limited complex pore structure, weak mechanical properties of radial support and high process cost.In this study,a deposition technique based on a high-voltage electric-field-driven continuous rotating jet is proposed to fabricate fully degraded polymer vascular stents. The experimental results showthat, due to the rotation of the deposition axis, the deposition direction of PCL(polycaprolactone)micro-jet isalways tangent to the surface of the deposition axis. The direction of the viscous drag force is also consistent withthe deposition direction of the jet.It is shown that by setting different rotation speeds of deposition axisωandlinear motion speeds of the nozzle V,the direction of rotation, pitch and angle of the individual printed spiralcurve can be precisely tuned. In the process of multiple spiral curves matching the deposition forming thin walltube mesh, the mesh shape and size of the thin wall tube can be accurately controlled by changing the number ofmatching spiral curves and the size of the matching position bias distance. Finally, the characteristics of a PCLtubular stent sample(with uniform-size microfibers and mesh shape),fabricated under the appropriate processparameters are described in detail. 展开更多

Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy(SERS)microfluidic system, which enables rapid detection of chemical and biological analytes, offers an effective platform to monitor various food contaminants and disease diagnoses. The efficacy of SERS microfluidic systems is greatly dependent on the sensitivity and reusability of SERS detection substrates to ensure repeated use for prolonged periods. This study proposed a novel process of femtosecond laser nanoparticle array(NPA)implantation to achieve homogeneous forward transfer of gold NPA on a flexible polymer film and accurately integrated it within microfluidic chips for SERS detection. The implanted Au-NPA strips show a remarkable electromagnetic field enhancement with the factor of 9×108 during SERS detection of malachite green(MG)solution, achieving a detection limit lower than 10 ppt,far better than most laser-prepared SERS substrates.Furthermore,Au-NPA strips show excellent reusability after several physical and chemical cleaning, because of the robust embedment of laser-implanted NPA in flexible substrates. To demonstrate the performance of Au-NPA,a SERS microfluidic system is built to monitor the online oxidation reaction between MG/NaClO reactants, which helps infer the reaction path. The proposed method of nanoparticle implantation is more effective than the direct laser structuring technique. It provides better performance for SERS detection, robustness of detection, and substrate flexibility and has a wider range of applications for microfluidic systems without any negative impact. 展开更多

The suppression of low-frequency vibration and noise has always been an important issue in a wide range of engineering applications. To address this concern,a novel square hierarchical honeycomb metamaterial capable of reducing low-frequency noise has been developed.By combining Bloch’s theorem with the finite element method, the band structure is calculated.Numerical results indicate that this metamaterial can produce multiple low-frequency bandgaps within 500 Hz,with a bandgap ratio exceeding 50%.The first bandgap spans from 169.57 Hz to 216.42 Hz.To reveal the formation mechanism of the bandgap,a vibrational mode analysis is performed.Numerical analysis demonstrates that the bandgap is attributed to the suppression of elastic wave propagation by the vibrations of the structure’s two protruding corners and overall expansion vibrations.Additionally, detailed parametric analyses are conducted to investigate the effect ofθ,i.e.,the angle between the protruding corner of the structure and the horizontal direction,on the band structures and the total effective bandgap width. It is found that reducingθis conducive to obtaining lower frequency bandgaps. The propagation characteristics of elastic waves in the structure are explored by the group velocity, phase velocity, and wave propagation direction. Finally, the transmission characteristics of a finite periodic structure are investigated experimentally. The results indicate significant acceleration amplitude attenuation within the bandgap range, confirming the structure’s excellent low-frequency vibration suppression capability. 展开更多

This paper theoretically studies the axisymmetric frictionless indentation of a transversely isotropic piezoelectric semiconductor(PSC)half-space subject to a rigid flatended cylindrical indenter. The contact area and other surface of the PSC half-space are assumed to be electrically insulating.By the Hankel integral transformation, the problem is reduced to the Fredholm integral equation of the second kind. This equation is solved numerically to obtain the indentation behaviors of the PSC half-space,mainly including the indentation force-depth relation and the electric potential-depth relation. The results show that the effect of the semiconductor property on the indentation responses is limited within a certain range of variation of the steady carrier concentration. The dependence of indentation behavior on material properties is also analyzed by two different kinds of PSCs.Finite element simulations are conducted to verify the results calculated by the integral equation technique, and good agreement is demonstrated. 展开更多

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering(SERS)platform, which enables trace analyte detection, has important application prospects.By structuring/modifying the surface of the SERSsubstrate, analyte in highly diluted solutions can be concentrated into localized active areas for highly sensitive detection. However, subject to the difficulty of the fabrication process, itremains challenging to balance hot-spot construction and the concentration capacity of analyte simultaneously. Therefore, preparing SERS substrates with densely ordered hot spots andefficient concentration capacity is of great significance for highly sensitive detection.Herein,we propose an Ag and fluoroalkyl-modified hierarchical armour substrate(Ag/F-HA),which has a double-layer stacking design to combine analyte concentration with hotspot construction. The microarmour structure is fabricated by femtosecond-laser processing to serve as asuperhydrophobic and low-adhesive surface to concentrate analyte, while the anodic aluminium oxide(AAO)template creates a nanopillar array serving as dense and ordered hot spots.Under the synergistic action of hot spots and analyte concentration,Ag/F-HA achieves a detectionlimit down to 10^(-7)M doxorubicin(DOX)molecules with a RSD of 7.69%.Additionally,Ag/F-HA exhibits excellent robustness to resist external disturbances such as liquid splash or abrasion.Based on our strategy,SERS substrates with directional analyte concentrations are further explored by patterning microcone arrays with defects. This work opens a way to the realistic implementation of SERS in diverse scenarios. 展开更多

In order to elucidate the influence of precipitation on the microscopic deformation mechanisms and macroscopic mechanical response of magnesium alloys under cyclic loading conditions, we employed a crystal plasticity model to analyze the stress-strain curves, specific crystal plane diffraction intensities, and the temporal evolution of various microscopic deformation mechanisms and twinning volume fractions for an extruded magnesium alloy, AXM10304, containing coherent precipitates. The research findings indicate that precipitation does not fundamentally alter the microscopic mechanisms of this alloy. However, it hinders twinning during the compression stage, mildly promotes detwinning during the tension stage, and enhances tension secondary hardening by elevating the difficulty of activation of the prismatic slip. 展开更多
