The specific length of the sensor fiber wound tightly around the outer wall of the pipe was connected with the optical fiber gratings at both ends, and the sensor fiber and the optical fiber gratings composed the flow sensing unit. The dynamic pressure was generated by the turbulence when fluid flows through the pipe, and the dynamic pressure resulted in the light phase shift of the sensor fiber. The phase information was demodulated by the fiber optic interferometer technology, time division multiplexing technology, and phase generated carrier modulation and demodulation techniques. The quadratic curve relationship between the phase change and flow rate was found by experimental data analysis, and the experiment confirmed the feasibility of the optical fiber flow test method with non-intrusion and achieved the real-time monitoring of the fluid flow.展开更多

Photonic crystal fiber was pumped by a mode-locked Yb:CaF2 laser, resulting in a strong spectral broadening from 485 to 1800 nm. The pump laser cavity could be realigned in order to achieve total mode-locking of the longitudinal and transverse TEM00 and TEM01 electromagnetic modes. This led to spatial oscillations of the output beam, which induced modulation of the coupling efficiency to the fiber. Due to the fact that nonlinear spectral broadening was intensity dependent, this mechanism introduced wavelength sweeping at the fiber output. The sweeping rate could be adjusted between 7 and 21.5 MHz by changing the geometry of the pump cavity. By controlling the ratio of the transverse mode amplitudes, we were able to tune the sweeping bandwidth, eventually covering both the 1300 nm and 1700 nm bioimaging transparency windows. When compared with previously demonstrated wavelength-swept sources, our concept offers much broader tunability and higher speed. Moreover,it does not require an additional intensity modulator.展开更多

文摘A novel Reed Solomon (RS) block turbo code (BTC) coding scheme of RS(63,58)xRS(63,58) for optical communications is proposed. The simulation results show that the net coding gain (NCG) of this scheme at the sixth iteration is more than that of other coding schemes at the third iteration for the bit error rate (BER) of 10~2. Furthermore, the novel RS BTC has shorter component code and rapider encoding and decoding speed. Therefore, the novel RS BTC coding scheme can be better used in high-speed long-haul optical communication systems, and the novel RS BTC can be regarded as a candidate code of the super forward error correction (super-FEC) code~ Moreover, the encoding/decoding design and implementation of the novel RS BTC are also presented.

文摘Distributed feedback fiber lasers with multiple phase shifts are fabricated and investigated. Single longitudinal mode lasers with single polarization are obtained by the structure design with two phase shifts. No obvious differences in laser performance, including pump threshold, slope efficiency, relative intensity noise, spectral linewidth, and polarization state, are observed for the presented distributed feedback fiber laser structures with different phase shift locations.
