Promoting language Learners＇ Autonomy in Cooperative Learning

Learner Autonomy （LA） is the desirable goal of the education. To date, many Learner Autonomy training programs have been carried out in foreign language teaching. Cooperative Learning （CL） is a language teaching and learning strategy which gets learners actively and cooperatively involved in learning a foreign language in groups. Both of them have been respectively advocated from pedagogical point of view and from the perspective of philosophy. However, being autonomous does not necessarily mean learning alone. Language learners should learn cooperatively and autonomously. It is the author＇s contention that CL is a good method to promote LA. CL has positive effects on both students＇ readiness and their ability to be more autonomous. CL enhances self-esteem and self-confidence, increases high motivation, encourages learners＇ responsibility for learning, enhances self-management skills, increases support for language learners to move from interdependence to independence. The paper stresses in the end that promoting LA is the teacher＇s long-term pedagogic goal.

Teachers' Perspective on Language Learning Strategies in Second Language Acquisition

"Teaching how to learn"has become very popular nowadays,and it is also very important to explore language learn ing strategies(LLS) in second language acquisition(SLA). Teachers' perspective will greatly affect the result of strategy instruction and training and how to help students acquire second language effectively is worthy researching.

On the teaching content of Language and Culture

To cultivate English majors＇ culture awareness and improve their English integrated competence, this paper clarifies the reasons and the choice of the content for the teaching of Language and Culture. The results of the teaching and the investigation conducted by the author show that the choice of the teaching materials and the topics for the class must be included in the teaching plan. Besides, this paper also probed into the most difficult topic, the easiest topic, the topics that need to be explained more and the topics that need to be explained less in class; and the similarity and differences of the teaching contents for students in different grades are also analyzed. In the end, proper sources of the comparison of English and Chinese languages and cultures are revealed in order to enlarge students＇ knowledge and improve their competence in using English.

Interpretation of language competence and its enlightenment for TEFL

What language competence a learner has can she/he achieve an effective communication？ This question is the main concern for applied linguists and English teachers in TEFL, for the recognition of language competence directly influences the goal of teaching, curriculum design, textbook writing and classroom practice. This paper discusses the various points of views on language competence and explores its characteristics which, the author believes, will shed some light on foreign language teaching.

An interpretation of ＂education shock＂ Bridging the college students＇ skill gaps of language learning in the UK

It is inevitable for Chinese students to come across ＂education shock＂ when they go to study in the UK because of the skill gaps. After a brief interpretation of ＂education shock＂ and detailed analysis of college students＇ skill gaps of language learning in the UK, this paper puts forward some ways of bridging the gaps from both the teachers and institutions in the UK and in China, so the study in the UK will be more successful and enjoyable.

Study on language variation and change

The study of language variation and change has attracted more and more attention. However, the two concepts are used mixedly and interchangeably in many studies, which is misleading. The current study differentiates the two closely related but different concepts in terms of their effects on language structures, temporal dimension and spatial/social dimension. Application of Corpus in Language Testing

In recent years, the application of corpus in the field of language testing has been widely recognized, and its application potential and prospects have also attracted much attention. Based on this, first of all, the application of corpus in language testing was expounded from four aspects: test development, development of automatic scoring system, formulation of scoring scale and vocabulary formulation in examination syllabus;then, taking the construction of Chinese English learners' writing competence scale as an example, the application of corpus in the construction of writing competence scale was expounded;furthermore, the application prospects and limitations of corpus in language testing were analyzed. The rise of corpus research methods provides an effective way to improve the authenticity of language testing.

An Empirical Study on the Interlanguage Errors of Students English Writing in Vocational and Technical Colleges

This article develops an empirical an investigation on the errors in compositions written by students who are studying in Luzhou Vocational and Technical College （LVTC） and Luzhou Medical College （LMC） and contrasts them in order to trace the source of the errors. It finally turns out to be that there exists strong correlation between students＇ academic quality and the number of errors of various types. Compared with ordinary university students, vocational and technical college （VTC） students＇ interlanguage （IL） errors seem to be more rudimental, and more negative-transferring, most of which are influenced by their mother tongue （MT）-Chinese. VTC students＇ general error in writing is misspelling, while university students ＇ major error lies in collocation. In this thesis, some practical enlightenment about learning and teaching English writing are also proposed.

Research on the New English Language Teaching Approach based on Sharing of the Knowledge Economy under the MOOCs Background

In this paper, we conduct research on the new English language teaching approach based on sharing of the knowledge economy under the MOOC background. College English teaching is the core part of education in colleges and universities that are leading an indicator of college teaching can reveal most times the imprinting to teaching in colleges and universities. College English teaching from scratch, since the childhood, beyond the difficulty of the teaching area, through the teaching of confusion, but always insist on teaching idea of development as the center, continuously innovative fusion of gesture to the new development of English teaching to maximize the realization of the value of English teaching and cultivate highly qualified English talents for the society. Our research uses the MOOC platform to optimize the traditional education pattern which is innovative.

On the Relationship between Language and Culture

The so-called culture refers to the tradition and style of a nation to be gradually formed in the historical development process. Language is an important reflection to culture. In fact, all sorts of views about the relationship between language and culture have been proposed in the academic circles, which are varied greatly and unable to agree with each other. In Sapir Whorf Hypothesis, Marxist theory, Grimshaw theory, and Chomsky theory, an intimate relationship between language and culture is seriously considered. Then, what is the counection between language and culture？ This is discussed in the paper, hoping to play a role of reference and help people better understand language, culture, and the objective world people live in.

How Should Oral Skills be Taught in the English Language Classroom

There is general agreement today that the communicative approach to the teaching and learning of English is the correct one and that we learn English for the purpose of communicating with other English-speakers. However, this is a comparatively recent development. This paper begins with an historical overview outlining the origins of the communicative approach in Europe and the United States and noting that they arrived at a consensus for entirely different historical reasons. In China English replaced Russian as the most important foreign language a generation ago but even then the emphasis was on receptive skills. The thorny question of authenticity is then discussed. While everyone agrees that in theory authenticity is a key consideration there is considerably less agreement on how to convert theory into practice. Finally the paper goes on to note how recent practice has abandoned the teacher-centered approach in favor of the learner-centered approach and the exercise-based approach in favor of the task-based approach, The task-based approach emphasizes integrated as opposed to individual skills acquisition. Examples of integrated tasks are given in the Appendix.

Beliefs about Language Learning Held by Pre-service Teachers:A case study

Language learning beliefs play a very important role in influencing learners' attitudes,motivations and also shape their experiences and actions in classroom.Successful learners develop insightful beliefs about language learning process,their own abilities and the use of effective strategies.However language learning beliefs can be different because of individual learner differences and contextual diversity.This study aimed at exploring beliefs about language learning held by pre-service teachers.159 pre-service teachers majoring in English at Qianan Normal College for Nationalities participated in the study.A 34-item questionnaire adapted from Horwitz's(1987) BALLI was used to collect the data.The results were reported and discussed from the following five aspects:1) beliefs about foreign language aptitude,2) beliefs about difficulty of language learning,3) beliefs about nature of language learning,4) beliefs about learning and communication strategies,and 5) beliefs about motivation and expectations.Suggestions on pedagogical implications and for future research were also indicated.

Language Teaching Methods Supported by Relevant SLA Theories and Their Application in China's Classroom Setting

Second language acquisition theories(SLA) with a great theoretical support on language teaching have an important influence on language leaning.From the brief overview of the historical development of language teaching methods,this paper analyzes the correlation of SLA theories interacted with language teaching methods and discusses the application of language teaching methods related to SLA theories,which help teachers appropriately utilize the teaching methods in the setting of China's language learning.

The Integration of Task-based Language Teaching and Information and Communication Technology into English Language Teaching in China

The purpose of this article is to explore how important that task-based language teaching(TBLT)interacts with Infor mation and Communication Technology(ICT)into English language teaching(ELT)in China.Many researchers have already studied that ICT and TBLT innovate the traditional teaching methods and improve our teaching or learning.However,they sepa rated TBLT from ICT instead of integrating these two ways into ELT.Few researches studied on how importance task-based in teracts with integration ICT into ELT in China.Under this circumstance,this article reviews the literature related to the present situation,which includes the brief introduction in English language teaching problems,the general concepts of ICT in ELT,taskbased teaching methodology in ELT,some studies on task-based interacting with integration ICT into ELT,discussion and con clusion.

Motivations and the Second Language Learning

This paper explores a general theory of Second Language Learning.In this paper,the author tries to illustrate some thing about motivations which help us develop more effective approaches to learn a second Language.Self-confidence,experi ence of success and satisfaction,good relationships among Learners and relationships among teacher and students are believed to have a solid connection with motivation.They are also correlated with each other in the process of motivation development.
