Purpose–Auxiliary power system is an indispensable part of the train;the auxiliary systems of both electric locomotives and EMUs mainly are powered by one of the two ways,which are either from auxiliary windings of t...Purpose–Auxiliary power system is an indispensable part of the train;the auxiliary systems of both electric locomotives and EMUs mainly are powered by one of the two ways,which are either from auxiliary windings of traction transformers or from DC-link voltage of traction converters.Powered by DC-link voltage of traction converters,the auxiliary systems were maintained of uninterruptable power supply with energy from electric braking.Meanwhile,powered by traction transformers,the auxiliary systems were always out of power while passing the neutral section of power supply grid and control system is powered by battery at this time.Design/methodology/approach–Uninterrupted power supply of auxiliary power system powered by auxiliary winding of traction transformer was studied.Failure reasons why previous solutions cannot be realized are analyzed.An uninterruptable power supply scheme for the auxiliary systems powered by auxiliary windings of traction transformers is proposed in this paper.The validity of the proposed scheme is verified by simulation and experimental results and on-site operation of an upgraded HXD3C type locomotive.This scheme is attractive for upgrading practical locomotives with the auxiliary systems powered by auxiliary windings of traction transformers.Findings–This scheme regenerates braking power supplied to auxiliary windings of traction transformers while a locomotive runs in the neutral section of the power supply grid.Control objectives of uninterrupted power supply technology are proposed,which are no overvoltage,no overcurrent and uninterrupted power supply.Originality/value–The control strategies of the scheme ensure both overvoltage free and inrush current free when a locomotive enters or leaves the neutral section.Furthermore,this scheme is cost low by employing updated control strategy of software and add both the two current sensors and two connection wires of hardware.展开更多

Purpose–The electromechanical brake system is leading the latest development trend in railway braking technology.The tolerance stack-up generated during the assembly and production process catalyzes the slight geomet...Purpose–The electromechanical brake system is leading the latest development trend in railway braking technology.The tolerance stack-up generated during the assembly and production process catalyzes the slight geometric dimensioning and tolerancing between the motor stator and rotor inside the electromechanical cylinder.The tolerance leads to imprecise brake control,so it is necessary to diagnose the fault of the motor in the fully assembled electromechanical brake system.This paper aims to present improved variational mode decomposition(VMD)algorithm,which endeavors to elucidate and push the boundaries of mechanical synchronicity problems within the realm of the electromechanical brake system.Design/methodology/approach–The VMD algorithm plays a pivotal role in the preliminary phase,employing mode decomposition techniques to decompose the motor speed signals.Afterward,the error energy algorithm precision is utilized to extract abnormal features,leveraging the practical intrinsic mode functions,eliminating extraneous noise and enhancing the signal’s fidelity.This refined signal then becomes the basis for fault analysis.In the analytical step,the cepstrum is employed to calculate the formant and envelope of the reconstructed signal.By scrutinizing the formant and envelope,the fault point within the electromechanical brake system is precisely identified,contributing to a sophisticated and accurate fault diagnosis.Findings–This paper innovatively uses the VMD algorithm for the modal decomposition of electromechanical brake(EMB)motor speed signals and combines it with the error energy algorithm to achieve abnormal feature extraction.The signal is reconstructed according to the effective intrinsic mode functions(IMFS)component of removing noise,and the formant and envelope are calculated by cepstrum to locate the fault point.Experiments show that the empirical mode decomposition(EMD)algorithm can effectively decompose the original speed signal.After feature extraction,signal enhancement and fault identification,the motor mechanical fault point can be accurately located.This fault diagnosis method is an effective fault diagnosis algorithm suitable for EMB systems.Originality/value–By using this improved VMD algorithm,the electromechanical brake system can precisely identify the rotational anomaly of the motor.This method can offer an online diagnosis analysis function during operation and contribute to an automated factory inspection strategy while parts are assembled.Compared with the conventional motor diagnosis method,this improved VMD algorithm can eliminate the need for additional acceleration sensors and save hardware costs.Moreover,the accumulation of online detection functions helps improve the reliability of train electromechanical braking systems.展开更多

With the ever increasing of tonnage and length of heavy haul trains, lateral in-train fo...Published studies in regard to coupler systems have been mainly focused on the manufacturing process or coupler strength issues. With the ever increasing of tonnage and length of heavy haul trains, lateral in-train forces generated by longitudinal in-train forces and coupler rotations have become a more and more significant safety issue for heavy haul train operations. Derailments caused by excessive lateral in-train forces are frequently reported. This article studies two typical coupler systems used on heavy haul locomotives. Their structures and stabilizing mechanism are analyzed before the corresponding models are developed. Coupler systems models are featured by two distinct stabilizing mechanism models and draft gear models with hysteresis considered. A model set which consists of four locomotives and three coupler systems is developed to study the rotational behavior of different coupler systems and their implications for locomotive dynamics. Simulated results indicate that when the locomotives are equipped with the type B coupler system, locomotives can meet the dynamics standard on tangent tracks; while the dynamics performance on curved tracks is very poor. The maximum longitudinal in-train force for locomotives equipped with the type B coupler system is 2000 kN. Simulations revealed a distinct trend for the type A coupler system. Locomotive dynamics are poorer for the type A case when locomotives are running on tangent tracks, while the dynamics are better for the type A case when locomotives are running on curved tracks. Theoretical studies and simulations carried out in this article suggest that a combination of the two types of stabilizing mechanism can result in a good design which can significantly decrease the relevant derailments.展开更多
Purpose–This study aims to introduce the achievements and benefits of applying wheel/rail-force–based maintenance interval extension of the C80 series wagon in China.Design/methodology/approach–Chinese wagons’exis...Purpose–This study aims to introduce the achievements and benefits of applying wheel/rail-force–based maintenance interval extension of the C80 series wagon in China.Design/methodology/approach–Chinese wagons’existing maintenance strategy had left a certain safety margin for the characteristics of widely running range,unstable service environment and submission to transportation organization requirements.To reduce maintenance costs,China railway(CR)has attempted to extend the maintenance interval since 2020.The maintenance cycle of C80 series heavy haul wagons is extended by three months(no stable routing)or 50,000 km(regular routing).However,in the meantime,the alarming rate of the running state,a key index to reflect the severe degree of hunting stability,by the train performance detection system(TPDS)for the C80 series heavy haul wagons has increased significantly.Findings–The present paper addresses a big data statistical way to evaluate the risk of allowing the C80 series heavy haul wagons to remain in operation longer than stipulated by the maintenance interval initial set.Through the maintenance and wayside-detectordata,whichis divided intothreestages,the extension period(three months),the current maintenance period and the previous maintenance period,this method reveals the alarming rate of hunting was correlated with maintenance interval.The maintainability of wagons will be achieved by utilizing wagon performance degradation modeling with the state of the wheelset and the often-contact side bearing.This paper also proposes a statistical model to return to the average safety level of the previous maintenance period’s baseline through correct alarming thresholds for unplanned corrective maintenance.Originality/value–The paper proposes an approach to reduce safety risk due to maintenance interval extension by effective maintenance program.The results are expected to help the railway company make the optimal solution to balance safety and the economy.展开更多
Purpose–This study aims to improve the availability of regenerative braking for urban metro vehicles by introducing a sensorless operational temperature estimation method for the braking resistor(BR)onboard the vehic...Purpose–This study aims to improve the availability of regenerative braking for urban metro vehicles by introducing a sensorless operational temperature estimation method for the braking resistor(BR)onboard the vehicle,which overcomes the vulnerability of having conventional temperature sensor.Design/methodology/approach–In this study,the energy model based sensorless estimation method is developed.By analyzing the structure and the convection dissipation process of the BR onboard the vehicle,the energy-based operational temperature model of the BR and its cooling domain is established.By adopting Newton’s law of cooling and the law of conservation of energy,the energy and temperature dynamic of the BR can be stated.To minimize the use of all kinds of sensors(including both thermal and electrical),a novel regenerative braking power calculation method is proposed,which involves only the voltage of DC traction network and the duty cycle of the chopping circuit;both of them are available for the traction control unit(TCU)of the vehicle.By utilizing a real-time iterative calculation and updating the parameter of the energy model,the operational temperature of the BR can be obtained and monitored in a sensorless manner.Findings–In this study,a sensorless estimation/monitoring method of the operational temperature of BR is proposed.The results show that it is possible to utilize the existing electrical sensors that is mandatory for the traction unit’s operation to estimate the operational temperature of BR,instead of adding dedicated thermal sensors.The results also validate the effectiveness of the proposal is acceptable for the engineering practical.Originality/value–The proposal of this study provides novel concepts for the sensorless operational temperature monitoring of BR onboard rolling stocks.The proposed method only involves quasi-global electrical variable and the internal control signal within the TCU.展开更多

Traditional reliability assessment methods are only performed well under conditions of large sample size and complete failure data,which lead to large deviation under conditions of small sample size and zero?failure data. To improve this problem,a new Bayesian method is proposed. Based on the characteristics of the solenoid valve in the braking system of a high?speed train,the modified Weibull distribution is selected to describe the failure rate over the entire lifetime. Based on the assumption of a binomial distribution for the failure probability at censored time,a concave method is employed to obtain the relationships between accumulation failure prob?abilities. A numerical simulation is performed to compare the results of the proposed method with those obtained from maximum likelihood estimation,and to illustrate that the proposed Bayesian model exhibits a better accuracy for the expectation value when the sample size is less than 12. Finally,the robustness of the model is demonstrated by obtaining the reliability indicators for a numerical case involving the solenoid valve of the braking system,which shows that the change in the reliability and failure rate among the di erent hyperparameters is small. The method is provided to avoid misleading of subjective information and improve accuracy of reliability assessment under condi?tions of small sample size and zero?failure data.展开更多

By analyzing the relations...In tests on dynamic performance of high-speed trains, it is found that there is an unfavorable speed interval for some vehicles, which would he harmful to the daily operation of the vehicle. By analyzing the relationship of vibration frequencies of the vehicle and its running speed, this paper finds that the unfavorable speed interval is caused by the vibration superposition of the natural frequency of the vehicle system with the frequency of external excitation. Taking some electric multiple units (EMUs) as examples, we proposed an approach to obtaining the unfavorable speed interval of vehicles. By analyzing the relation between vibration frequencies and the running speed of the vehicle, the natural frequencies of the vehicle system and the external excitations are distinguished. In the end, we suggest some measures to minimize the negative influences of the unfavorable speed interval, such as shifting frequency, reducing or eliminating external excitation.展开更多

The study of metamaterials has important theoretical value and application prospects. In recent years, the proposal of computational metamaterials has opened up a brand-new direction for analog computing, providing high-throughput, energy-free computing methods for special computing tasks. However, the development of acoustic computing metamaterials is relatively preliminary, and it is necessary to develop design theories. There is no work to solve partial differential equations and realize fractional Fourier transform in spatial domain acoustic computing metamaterials. In this paper, the acoustic wave computational metamaterial is designed, and the simulation realizes the spatial domain fractional Fourier transform and partial differential equation calculation. It is expected that acoustic computational metamaterials will enable new capabilities in signal acquisition and processing, network computing, and drive new applications of sound wave.展开更多
The microstructure,precipitates and properties of 25CrNiMoV(DZ2)steel for high-speed railway axles with different Nb contents were investigated by means of optical microscopy,scanning electron microscopy,electron back...The microstructure,precipitates and properties of 25CrNiMoV(DZ2)steel for high-speed railway axles with different Nb contents were investigated by means of optical microscopy,scanning electron microscopy,electron back-scattering diffraction,transmission electron microscopy and physicochemical phase analysis.The results show that the grain size of the original austenite of the test steels decreases from 20.5 to 14.2 and 10.8μm after adding 0.026 and 0.039 wt.%Nb to a 25CrNiMoV steel,respectively.Moreover,the block width of the tempered martensite in the test steels is refined from 1.91 to 1.72 and 1.60µm,respectively.MC-type precipitates in 25CrNiMoV steel are mainly VC,while(Nb,V)C gradually precipitates when Nb is microalloyed,and the amount of precipitates increases with increasing Nb content.Through strengthening mechanism analysis,it is found that grain refinement strengthening is the primary way to increase the strength.The improvement in the yield strength with increasing Nb content is attributed to a significant increase in precipitation strengthening,grain refinement strengthening and dislocation strengthening.展开更多

In the end, we suggest some measures to minimize the negative influences of the unfavorable speed interval, such as shifting frequency, reducing or eliminating external excitation.

文摘Metamaterials can control incident waves in the sub-wavelength range through the design of artificial structures, and realize the functions that natural materials cannot achieve. The study of metamaterials has important theoretical value and application prospects. In recent years, the proposal of computational metamaterials has opened up a brand-new direction for analog computing, providing high-throughput, energy-free computing methods for special computing tasks. However, the development of acoustic computing metamaterials is relatively preliminary, and it is necessary to develop design theories. There is no work to solve partial differential equations and realize fractional Fourier transform in spatial domain acoustic computing metamaterials. In this paper, the acoustic wave computational metamaterial is designed, and the simulation realizes the spatial domain fractional Fourier transform and partial differential equation calculation. It is expected that acoustic computational metamaterials will enable new capabilities in signal acquisition and processing, network computing, and drive new applications of sound wave.

文摘The microstructure,precipitates and properties of 25CrNiMoV(DZ2)steel for high-speed railway axles with different Nb contents were investigated by means of optical microscopy,scanning electron microscopy,electron back-scattering diffraction,transmission electron microscopy and physicochemical phase analysis.The results show that the grain size of the original austenite of the test steels decreases from 20.5 to 14.2 and 10.8μm after adding 0.026 and 0.039 wt.%Nb to a 25CrNiMoV steel,respectively.Moreover,the block width of the tempered martensite in the test steels is refined from 1.91 to 1.72 and 1.60µm,respectively.MC-type precipitates in 25CrNiMoV steel are mainly VC,while(Nb,V)C gradually precipitates when Nb is microalloyed,and the amount of precipitates increases with increasing Nb content.Through strengthening mechanism analysis,it is found that grain refinement strengthening is the primary way to increase the strength.The improvement in the yield strength with increasing Nb content is attributed to a significant increase in precipitation strengthening,grain refinement strengthening and dislocation strengthening.
