Jaw and maxillofacial bone lesions encompass a wide variety of both neoplastic and non-neoplastic pathologies.These lesions can arise from various tissues,including bone,cartilage,and soft tissue,each presenting disti...Jaw and maxillofacial bone lesions encompass a wide variety of both neoplastic and non-neoplastic pathologies.These lesions can arise from various tissues,including bone,cartilage,and soft tissue,each presenting distinct challenges in diagnosis and treatment.While some pathologies exhibit characteristic imaging features that aid in diagnosis,many others are nonspecific.This overlap often necessitates a multimodal imaging approach,combining techniques such as radiographs,computed tomography,and magnetic resonance imaging to achieve a diagnosis or narrow the diagnostic considerations.This article provides a comprehensive review of the imaging approach to jaw and maxillofacial bone tumors,including updates on the 2022 World Health Organization classification of these tumors.The relevant anatomy of the jaw and dental structures that is important for accurate imaging interpretation is discussed.展开更多
Aim: We report a case of fungal keratitis and Ocular Surface Squalous Neoplasia (OSSN) occurring in a HIV positive patient. Method: A 32-year-old female patient presented with a non-healing ulcer, which was diagnosed ...Aim: We report a case of fungal keratitis and Ocular Surface Squalous Neoplasia (OSSN) occurring in a HIV positive patient. Method: A 32-year-old female patient presented with a non-healing ulcer, which was diagnosed as fungal keratitis. On examination her ocular surface also revealed OSSN on the nasal bulbar conjunctiva. Serological investigations revealed HIV positive status with CD 4 counts of 61 cells/μl. Patient was treated for fungal keratitis with topical antifungals and also underwent excision biopsy of OSSN which was reported as conjunctival intraepithelial neoplasia. The ulcer showed significant response to topical medication only after the commencement of Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART). Conclusion: This case emphasizes on the importance of a thorough ocular examination to rule out associated ocular conditions and investigations to rule out immunosuppressive status in a non-healing ulcer.展开更多

When the relative velocity is higher than the critical relative velocity, the growth of waves occurs. It is found that magnetic field has a stabilization effect whereas the buoyancy force has a destabilization effect on the KHI in the presence of sharp inter-face. The RT instability increases with wave number and flow shear, and acts much like a KHI when destabilizing effect of sheared flow dominates. It is shown that both of ablation velocity and magnetic field have stabilization effect on RT instability in the presence of continued interface. In this paper, we study the effect of magnetic field on Kelvin-Helmholtz instability (KHI) in a Couple-stress fluid layer above by a porous layer and below by a rigid surface. A simple theory based on fully developed flow approximations is used to derive the dispersion relation for the growth rate of KHI. We replace the effect of boundary layer with Beavers and Joseph slip condition at the rigid surface. The dispersion relation is derived using suitable boundary and surface conditions and results are discussed graphically. The stabilization effect of magnetic field takes place for whole waveband and becomes more significant for the short wavelength. The growth rate decreases as the density scale length increases. The stabilization effect of magnetic field is more significant for the short density scale length.展开更多
Various recent reports on Tuberculosis have alarmed an increase in the patient class and subsequent death rates across the globe. Over and above the spread of more dangerous and fatal forms of tuberculosis like MDR-TB...Various recent reports on Tuberculosis have alarmed an increase in the patient class and subsequent death rates across the globe. Over and above the spread of more dangerous and fatal forms of tuberculosis like MDR-TB i.e. multiple-drug resistance tuberculosis, XDR-TB i.e. extensively-drug resistance tuberculosis & TDR-TB i.e. total-drug resistance tuberculosis has forwarded an urgent need to discover novel antitubercular agents. The current work is aimed at combining two previously well-known pharmacophores (pyrazoline and benzoxazole nucleus) in order to design and synthesize a series of novel benzoxazole-based pyrazoline derivatives. The synthesized target compounds were structurally confirmed by LCMS, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR analysis. The target compounds were In vitro evaluated against M. tuberculosis H37Rv strain, multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB) and extensively drug-resistant TB (XDR-TB) strains. The In vitro screening results depicted that majority of the target compounds displayed potent activity with MIC in a range of ~0.8 to 6.25 μg/mL. Many compounds were found to be more potent than isoniazid against MDR-TB with MIC value 3.12 μg/mL and XDR-TB with MIC value 12.5 μg/mL. Cytotoxicity assay of these active compounds on VERO cell lines also displayed good selectivity index.展开更多

The objective of the pres...The study of the triacylglycerols (TAG) by gas chromatography (GC) using capillary columns is an efficient technique for the determination of some characteristics of quality of fats and oils. The objective of the present study was to determine by GC the content of TAG present in fat of cow and goat milk produced in four zones of Mexico. According to criteria established in Mexican Standardization, 25 samples were obtained of 1 L of ultra-pasteurized cow milk (UHT) and 27 and 48 of raw cow and goat milk, respectively. The fat was extracted from all of the milk samples by detergent solution, and was stored at –20℃ until its analysis. The chromatographic conditions made it possible to identify and quantify TAG of 28 to 54 numbers of carbons, which were analyzed under descriptive and inferential statistical techniques. For the cow milk fat, the statistical analyses indicated significant difference (p < 0.05) in the TAG C34, C50 and C52, and for the goat milk fat in the TAG of C36 to C52. No equality of means was found among the TAG of the cow and goat milk fat. This study offers an advance in the characterization of the TAG present in the cow and goat milk fat produced in Mexico.展开更多

The focus of the research work presented in this article is the design of an industrial plant devoted to produce different types of hazelnuts-based products.The industrial plant design is initially based on a traditio...The focus of the research work presented in this article is the design of an industrial plant devoted to produce different types of hazelnuts-based products.The industrial plant design is initially based on a traditional approach(production process flow charts analysis and plant layout study)and it is then supported by a simulation model mainly used to investigate the system behavior in different operative scenarios.The industrial plant simulation model(called HAZIMUT,HAZelnuts Industrial plant design and man-agement based on advanced simulation Models Utilization)recreates the entire hazelnuts production process(based on nine different production lines).The HAZIMUT simulation model is used to evaluate the effects—caused by multiple changes in the production lines capacities—on multiple performance measures based on machines levels utilization,work in process and production system productivity.The simulation results show how variations in production lines capacities generate an over-reaction of the system with major changes in some of the performance measures therefore stressing the importance to use the HAZIMUT simulator to tune the system correctly to improve the overall plant performances.展开更多
