The primary objective of this research is to delineate potential groundwater recharge zones in the Kadaladi taluk of Ramanathapuram,Tamil Nadu,India,using a combination of remote sensing and Geographic Information Sys...The primary objective of this research is to delineate potential groundwater recharge zones in the Kadaladi taluk of Ramanathapuram,Tamil Nadu,India,using a combination of remote sensing and Geographic Information Systems(GIS)with the Analytical Hierarchical Process(AHP).Various factors such as geology,geomorphology,soil,drainage,density,lineament density,slope,rainfall were analyzed at a specific scale.Thematic layers were evaluated for quality and relevance using Saaty's scale,and then inte-grated using the weighted linear combination technique.The weights assigned to each layer and features were standardized using AHP and the Eigen vector technique,resulting in the final groundwater potential zone map.The AHP method was used to normalize the scores following the assignment of weights to each criterion or factor based on Saaty's 9-point scale.Pair-wise matrix analysis was utilized to calculate the geometric mean and normalized weight for various parameters.The groundwater recharge potential zone map was created by mathematically overlaying the normalized weighted layers.Thematic layers indicating major elements influencing groundwater occurrence and recharge were derived from satellite images.2 Results indicate that approximately 21.8 km of the total area exhibits high potential for groundwater recharge.Groundwater recharge is viable in areas with moderate slopes,particularly in the central and southeastern regions.展开更多

Three dimensional(3D)echocardiogram enables cardiologists to visua-lize suspicious cardiac structures in detail.In recent years,this three-dimensional echocardiogram carries important clinical value in virtual surgica...Three dimensional(3D)echocardiogram enables cardiologists to visua-lize suspicious cardiac structures in detail.In recent years,this three-dimensional echocardiogram carries important clinical value in virtual surgical simulation.However,this 3D echocardiogram involves a trade-off difficulty between accu-racy and efficient computation in clinical diagnosis.This paper presents a novel Flip Directional 3D Volume Reconstruction(FD-3DVR)method for the recon-struction of echocardiogram images.The proposed method consists of two main steps:multiplanar volumetric imaging and 3D volume reconstruction.In the crea-tion of multiplanar volumetric imaging,two-dimensional(2D)image pixels are mapped into voxels of the volumetric grid.As the obtained slices are discontin-uous,there are some missing voxels in the volume data.To restore the structural and textural information of 3D ultrasound volume,the proposed method creates a volume pyramid in parallel with theflip directional texture pyramid.Initially,the nearest neighbors of missing voxels in the multiplanar volumetric imaging are identified by 3D ANN(Approximate Nearest Neighbor)patch matching method.Furthermore,aflip directional texture pyramid is proposed and aggregated with distance in patch matching tofind out the most similar neighbors.In the recon-struction step,structural and textural information obtained from differentflip angle directions can reconstruct 3D volume well with the desired accuracy.Com-pared with existing 3D reconstruction methods,the proposed Flip Directional 3D Volume Reconstruction(FD-3DVR)method provides superior performance for the mean peak signal-to-noise ratio(40.538 for the proposed method I and 39.626 for the proposed method II).Experimental results performed on the cardi-ac datasets demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method for the reconstruc-tion of echocardiogram images.展开更多
Flooding is a hazardous natural calamity that causes significant damage to lives and infrastructure in the real world.Therefore,timely and accurate decision-making is essential for mitigating flood-related damages.The...Flooding is a hazardous natural calamity that causes significant damage to lives and infrastructure in the real world.Therefore,timely and accurate decision-making is essential for mitigating flood-related damages.The traditional flood prediction techniques often encounter challenges in accuracy,timeliness,complexity in handling dynamic flood patterns and leading to substandard flood management strategies.To address these challenges,there is a need for advanced machine learning models that can effectively analyze Internet of Things(IoT)-generated flood data and provide timely and accurate flood predictions.This paper proposes a novel approach-the Adaptive Momentum and Backpropagation(AM-BP)algorithm-for flood prediction and management in IoT networks.The AM-BP model combines the advantages of an adaptive momentum technique with the backpropagation algorithm to enhance flood prediction accuracy and efficiency.Real-world flood data is used for validation,demonstrating the superior performance of the AM-BP algorithm compared to traditional methods.In addition,multilayer high-end computing architecture(MLCA)is used to handle weather data such as rainfall,river water level,soil moisture,etc.The AM-BP’s real-time abilities enable proactive flood management,facilitating timely responses and effective disaster mitigation.Furthermore,the AM-BP algorithm can analyze large and complex datasets,integrating environmental and climatic factors for more accurate flood prediction.The evaluation result shows that the AM-BP algorithm outperforms traditional approaches with an accuracy rate of 96%,96.4%F1-Measure,97%Precision,and 95.9%Recall.The proposed AM-BP model presents a promising solution for flood prediction and management in IoT networks,contributing to more resilient and efficient flood control strategies,and ensuring the safety and well-being of communities at risk of flooding.展开更多

In the present paper, various groundwater potential zones for the assessment of groundwater availability in Theni district have been delineated using remote sensing and GIS techniques. Survey of India toposheets and IRS-IC satel- lite imageries are used to prepare various thematic layers viz. lithology, slope, land-use, lineament, drainage, soil, and rainfall were transformed to raster data using feature to raster converter tool in ArcGIS. The raster maps of these factors are allocated a fixed score and weight computed from multi influencing factor (MIF) technique. Moreover, each weighted thematic layer is statistically computed to get the groundwater potential zones. The groundwater potential zones thus obtained were divided into four categories, viz., very poor, poor, good, and very good zones. The result depicts the groundwater potential zones in the study area and found to be helpful in better planning and management of ground- water resonrces.展开更多

Improvement in salt tolerance of major food crops is an important way for the economic utilization of coastal zones. This study proved that the application of salicylic acid(SA) improved the growth and yield under salt stress conditions and investigated its physiological mechanisms for salt tolerance. The investigation on the effect of SA for salt tolerance during germination showed that the decreased rates of germination and growth(in terms of shoot and root lengths) by the salt stress were significantly increased by the SA application(SA + NaCl). The treatment of SA to the high and low saline soils enhanced the growth, yield and nutrient values of rice. The effects of SA on Na^+, K^+ and Cl~– ionic accumulation were traced under salt stress condition by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry and ion chromatography. It was revealed that the increased accumulation of Na^+ and Clˉ ions by the salt stress were reduced by SA application. An increased concentration of endogenous SA level was detected from the SA-treated rice varieties(ASD16 and BR26) by liquid chromatography electrospray Ionization-tandem mass spectrometry. The activities of antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase, catalase and peroxidase were increased by salt stress whereas decreased by the SA application. The study proved that the application of SA could alleviate the adverse effects of salt stress by the regulation of physiological mechanism in rice plants. In spite of salt stress, it can be applied to the coastal and estuarine regions to increase the rice production.展开更多
Objective:To characterize the pharmacological importance of biosurfactants isolated from halophilic Bacillus sp BS3.Methods:Halophilic Bacillus sp.BS3 was isolated from solar salt works,identified by 16S rRNA sequenci...Objective:To characterize the pharmacological importance of biosurfactants isolated from halophilic Bacillus sp BS3.Methods:Halophilic Bacillus sp.BS3 was isolated from solar salt works,identified by 16S rRNA sequencing and was used for screening their biosurfactant production.Characters of the biosurfactant and their anticancer activity were analyzed and performed in mammary epithelial carcinoma cell at different concentrations.Results:The biosurfactant were characterized by TLC,FTIR and GC-MS analysis and identified as lipopeptide type.GC-MS analysis revealed that,the biosurfactant had various compounds including 13Docosenamide.(Z);Mannosamine,9- and N,N,N',N'-tetramethyl.Surprisingly the antiviral activity was found against shrimp white spot syndrome virus(WSSV) by suppressing the viral replication and significantly raised shrimp survival(P<0.01).Anticancer activity performed in the mammary epithelial carcinoma cell at different concentrations of biosurfactants,among the various concentrations of biosurfactants such as 0.000 25,0.002 5,0.025,0.25 and 2.5 μ g,the 0.25 μ g concentration suppressed the cells significantly(P<0.05) to 24.8%.Conclusions:Based on the findings,the present study concluded that,there is a possibility to develop eco-friendly antimicrobial and anticancer drugs from the extremophilic origin.展开更多

In particular, the behavior of earth resembles the non- linearity applications. An efficient tool is needed for the interpretation of geophysical parameters to study the subsurface of the earth. Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) perform certain tasks if the structure of the network is modified accordingly for the purpose it has been used. The three most robust networks were taken and comparatively analyzed for their performance to choose the appropriate network. The single- layer feed-forward neural network with the back propagation algorithm is chosen as one of the well- suited networks after comparing the results. Initially, certain synthetic data sets of all three-layer curves have been taken tk^r training the network, and the network is validated by the field datasets collected from Tuticorin Coastal Region (78°7'30"E and 8°48'45"N), Tamil Nadu, India. The interpretation has been done successfully using the corresponding learning algorithm in the present study. With proper training of back propagation networks, it tends to give the resistivity and thickness of the subsurface layer model of the field resistivity data concerning the synthetic data trained earlier in the appropriate network. The network is trained with more Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES) data, and this trained network is demon- strated by the field data. Groundwater table depth also has been modeled.展开更多

We found that Cynodon...The aim of the present study was to screen cardioactive herbs from Western Ghats of India. The heart beat rate (HBR) and blood flow during systole and diastole were tested in zebrafish embryos. We found that Cynodon dactylon (C. dactylon) induced increases in the HBR in zebrafish embryos with a HBR of (3.968±0.344) beats/ s, which was significantly higher than that caused by betamethosone [(3.770±0.344) beats/s]. The EC50 value of C. dactylon was 3.738 μg/mL. The methanolic extract of Sida acuta (S. acuta) led to decreases in the HBR in zebrafish embryos [(1.877 ±0.079) beats/s], which was greater than that caused by nebivolol (positive control). The EC50 value of Sida acuta was 1.195 μg/mL. The untreated embryos had a HBR of (2.685±0.160) beats/s at 3 d post fertilization (dpf). The velocities of blood flow during the cardiac cycle were (2,291.667 ±72.169) μm/s for the control, (4,250± 125.000) μm/s for C. dactylon and (1,083.333±72.169) μm/s for S. acuta. The LC50 values were 32.6 μg/mL for C. dactylon and 20.9 μg/mL for S. acuta. In addition, the extracts exhibited no chemical genetic effects in the drug dosage range tested. In conclusion, we developed an assay that can measure changes in cardiac function in response to herbal small molecules and determine the cardiogenic effects by microvideography.展开更多
Objective:The aim of the present study was to isolate the anti-MRSA(Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus)molecule from the Mangrove symbiont Streptomyces and its biomedical studies in Zebrafish embryos.Methods:...Objective:The aim of the present study was to isolate the anti-MRSA(Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus)molecule from the Mangrove symbiont Streptomyces and its biomedical studies in Zebrafish embryos.Methods:MRSA was isolated from the pus samples of Colachal hospitals and confirmed by amplification of mecA gene.Anti-MRSA molecule producing strain was identified by!6s rRNA gene sequencing.Anti-MRSA compound production was optimized by Solid State Fermentation(SSF)and the purification of the active molecule was carried out by TLC and RP-HPLC.The inhibitory concentration and LC_(50)were calculated using Statistical software SPSS.The Biomedical studies including the cardiac assay and organ toxicity assessment were carried out in Zebraiish.Results:The bioactive anti-MRSA small molecule A,was purified by TLC with Rf value of 0.37 with 1.389 retention time at RP-HPLC.The Inhibitory Concentration of the purified molecule A_2 was 30μg/mL but,the inhibitory concentration of the MRSA in the infected embryo was 32-34μg/mL for TLC purified molecule A,with LC_(50)mean value was61.504μg/mL.Zebrafish toxicity was assessed in 48-60μg/mL by observing the physiological deformities and the heart beat rates(HBR)of embryos for anti MRSA molecule showed the mean of 41.33-41.67 HBR/15 seconds for 40μg/mL and control was 42.33-42.67 for 15 seconds which significantly showed that the anti-MRSA molecule A_2 did not affected the HBR.Conclusions:Anti-MRSA molecule from Streptomyces sp PVRK-I was isolated and biomedical studies in Zebrafish model assessed that the molecule was non toxic at the minimal inhibitory concentration of MRSA.展开更多

Sea cu- cumber Holothuria atra is commonly known as the lollyfish. The antifimgal activity was detected using agar well diffusion method against the various fungal strains such as Trichoderma viride, Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavis, Candida albicans and Penicillium chrysogenum. Relatively high antifungal activity was seen against Candida albicans at 100 μL-1 concentration of extracts. Zone of inhibition was measured at 18 mm of diameter. The anti-tumor activities were detected against the Vero and Hep2 cell lines using MTT assay. The cells were treated with H. atra extract at concentrations 0.078-10mg mL-1. The extract showed high proliferative activity against the Hep2 cells. The body wall extracts of sea cucumber (H. atra) showed effective antifungal and antitumor activities All these findings suggest that the extracts could be used for the development of drugs.展开更多

The deposited silver thin film was characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD) analysis, scanning electron microscope(SEM), UV-visible and electrical I-V study. The diffraction study showed FCC structure of metallic silver in good agreement with the standard values of JCPDS(04–0783). SEM reveals flower like nano particles produced on the substrate. The surface plasmon resonance(SPR) peak in the UV-visible spectrum shows maximum absorption at 350 nm. The film shows an ohmic behavior and its electrical resistivity was found ~103 ?·cm at room temperature.展开更多

The present study focused on the estimation of submarine groundwater discharge(SGD)and the effects of nutrient fluxes due to the SGD process.The parameters of SGD such as magnitude,character,and nutrient flux in Punna...The present study focused on the estimation of submarine groundwater discharge(SGD)and the effects of nutrient fluxes due to the SGD process.The parameters of SGD such as magnitude,character,and nutrient flux in Punnakayal region of South East coast of India were evaluated using multiple tracers of groundwater inputs in 2019.It was found that the elevated values for the tracers in the study area,displayed a gradational change in the values as move from estuarine part to the offshore.Simultaneous occurrence of fresh and saline SGD is observed on the study sites.Also,indicated that the SGD fluxes ranged from 0.04 to 0.12 m^3 m^-2d^-1 at the estuary and0.03-0.15 m^3 m^-2d^-1at the groundwater site.A substantially increased value for 222 Rn activities is distinguished in the estuary to values over 312 dpm L^-1.Nutrient embellishments were generally greatest at locations with substantial meteoric elements in groundwater;however,the recirculation of saltwater through the geological formation could provide a way of transferring terrestrially-derived nutrients to the coastal zone at many places.展开更多

The structure and morphology of the nanostructures are characterized by x-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and nitrogen adsorption-desorption analyses. The mechanism for the growth of zinc oxide nanostructures over the biotemplate is proposed. SEM and TEM observations also reveal the formation of spherical zinc oxide nanoparticles over the interwoven fibrous network. Multiple sized pores having pore diameter ranging from 10- 4Ohm is also evidenced from the pore size distribution plot. The larger surface area and porous nature of the material lead to high sensitivity (40.93% for 300 ppm of ethanol), quick response (42s) and recovery (40 s) towards ethanol at 30014. The porous nature of the interwoven fibre-like network affords mass transportation of ethanol vapor, which results in faster surface accessibility, and hence it acts as a potential candidate for ethanol sensing at room temperature.展开更多

The physiochemical properties of green synthesized nickel nanoparticles(Ni Gs) were characterized by UV–Vis spectroscopy(UV–Vis), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy(FTIR), X-ray diffraction(XRD), Scanning Electron Microscope(SEM) and Transmission Electron Microscope(TEM). Ni Gs were used as adsorbent for the removal of dyes such as crystal violet(CV), eosin Y(EY), orange II(OR) and anionic pollutant nitrate(NO3-), sulfate(SO42-) from aqueous solution. Adsorption capacity of Ni Gs was examined in batch modes at different p H, contact time, Ni G dosage, initial dye and pollutant concentration. The adsorption process was p H dependent and the adsorption capacity increased with increase in contact time and with that of Ni G dosage, whereas the adsorption capacity decreased at higher concentrations of dyes and pollutants. Maximum percentage removal of dyes and pollutants were observed at 40, 20,30, 10 and 10 mg·L-1initial concentration of CV, EY, OR, NO3-and SO42-respectively. The maximum adsorption capacities in Langmuir isotherm were found to be 0.454, 0.615, 0.273, 0.795 and 0.645 mg·g-1at p H 8, 3, 3, 7and 7 for CV, EY, OR, NO3-and SO42-respectively. The higher coef ficients of correlation in Langmuir isotherm suggested monolayer adsorption. The mean energies(E), 2.23, 3.53, 2.50, 5.00 and 3.16 k J·mol-1for CV, EY, OR, NO3-and SO42-respectively, calculated from the Dubinin–Radushkevich isotherm showed physical adsorption of adsorbate onto Ni Gs. Adsorption kinetics data was better fitted to pseudo-second-order kinetics with R2 N 0.870 for all dyes and pollutants. Ni Gs were found to be an effective adsorbent for the removal of dyes and pollutants from aqueous solution and can be applied to treat textile and tannery ef fluents.展开更多

Methods:Sixty seven collected samples that were confirmed by 16S rDNA analysis as positive with M.tuberculosis infection were subjected to sensitivity test against commercially used front line and second line drugs by absolute concentration method using LJ slants.Seven bacterial isolates numbered I-78,I-101,I-127,I-173,I-202,I-262,I-327 showed resistant for more than 3 drugs were considered as MDR M.tuberculosis.Thus the percentage of 10.4 were recorded MDR-TB. Fifteen marine micro algal extracts were screened for antimycobacterial activity and partial characterization of the active principles was done.Results:The percentage contribution of marine micro algal species on the extraction of antimycobacterials indicated Isochrysis galbana(I. galbana) contain rich bioactive compounds and accounted for 60%inhibition of the total isolates. The percentage contribution of solvents on the extraction of antimicrobials from I.galbana showed that the methanol,chloroform,n-Butanol showed maximum of extraction.The purified eluted compounds(R,0.43) from TLC plate were chromatographed by gas chromatography.The eluted sterol compounds showed 13 unsaturated sterols with 3 major sterols.Conclusions:The present study indicates the presence of unsaturated fatty acids may have the effect on MDR M. tuberculosis,indicating a potential natural alternative to antibiotics.展开更多
文摘The primary objective of this research is to delineate potential groundwater recharge zones in the Kadaladi taluk of Ramanathapuram,Tamil Nadu,India,using a combination of remote sensing and Geographic Information Systems(GIS)with the Analytical Hierarchical Process(AHP).Various factors such as geology,geomorphology,soil,drainage,density,lineament density,slope,rainfall were analyzed at a specific scale.Thematic layers were evaluated for quality and relevance using Saaty's scale,and then inte-grated using the weighted linear combination technique.The weights assigned to each layer and features were standardized using AHP and the Eigen vector technique,resulting in the final groundwater potential zone map.The AHP method was used to normalize the scores following the assignment of weights to each criterion or factor based on Saaty's 9-point scale.Pair-wise matrix analysis was utilized to calculate the geometric mean and normalized weight for various parameters.The groundwater recharge potential zone map was created by mathematically overlaying the normalized weighted layers.Thematic layers indicating major elements influencing groundwater occurrence and recharge were derived from satellite images.2 Results indicate that approximately 21.8 km of the total area exhibits high potential for groundwater recharge.Groundwater recharge is viable in areas with moderate slopes,particularly in the central and southeastern regions.

文摘This paper proposes a hybrid feature selection sequence comple-mented with filter and wrapper concepts to improve the accuracy of Machine Learning(ML)based supervised classifiers for classifying the survivability of breast cancer patients into classes,living and deceased using METABRIC and Surveillance,Epidemiology and End Results(SEER)datasets.The ML-based classifiers used in the analysis are:Multiple Logistic Regression,K-Nearest Neighbors,Decision Tree,Random Forest,Support Vector Machine and Multilayer Perceptron.The workflow of the proposed ML algorithm sequence comprises the following stages:data cleaning,data balancing,feature selection via a filter and wrapper sequence,cross validation-based training,testing and performance evaluation.The results obtained are compared in terms of the following classification metrics:Accuracy,Precision,F1 score,True Positive Rate,True Negative Rate,False Positive Rate,False Negative Rate,Area under the Receiver Operating Characteristics curve,Area under the Precision-Recall curve and Mathews Correlation Coefficient.The comparison shows that the proposed feature selection sequence produces better results from all supervised classifiers than all other feature selection sequences considered in the analysis.
文摘Three dimensional(3D)echocardiogram enables cardiologists to visua-lize suspicious cardiac structures in detail.In recent years,this three-dimensional echocardiogram carries important clinical value in virtual surgical simulation.However,this 3D echocardiogram involves a trade-off difficulty between accu-racy and efficient computation in clinical diagnosis.This paper presents a novel Flip Directional 3D Volume Reconstruction(FD-3DVR)method for the recon-struction of echocardiogram images.The proposed method consists of two main steps:multiplanar volumetric imaging and 3D volume reconstruction.In the crea-tion of multiplanar volumetric imaging,two-dimensional(2D)image pixels are mapped into voxels of the volumetric grid.As the obtained slices are discontin-uous,there are some missing voxels in the volume data.To restore the structural and textural information of 3D ultrasound volume,the proposed method creates a volume pyramid in parallel with theflip directional texture pyramid.Initially,the nearest neighbors of missing voxels in the multiplanar volumetric imaging are identified by 3D ANN(Approximate Nearest Neighbor)patch matching method.Furthermore,aflip directional texture pyramid is proposed and aggregated with distance in patch matching tofind out the most similar neighbors.In the recon-struction step,structural and textural information obtained from differentflip angle directions can reconstruct 3D volume well with the desired accuracy.Com-pared with existing 3D reconstruction methods,the proposed Flip Directional 3D Volume Reconstruction(FD-3DVR)method provides superior performance for the mean peak signal-to-noise ratio(40.538 for the proposed method I and 39.626 for the proposed method II).Experimental results performed on the cardi-ac datasets demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method for the reconstruc-tion of echocardiogram images.

文摘Flooding is a hazardous natural calamity that causes significant damage to lives and infrastructure in the real world.Therefore,timely and accurate decision-making is essential for mitigating flood-related damages.The traditional flood prediction techniques often encounter challenges in accuracy,timeliness,complexity in handling dynamic flood patterns and leading to substandard flood management strategies.To address these challenges,there is a need for advanced machine learning models that can effectively analyze Internet of Things(IoT)-generated flood data and provide timely and accurate flood predictions.This paper proposes a novel approach-the Adaptive Momentum and Backpropagation(AM-BP)algorithm-for flood prediction and management in IoT networks.The AM-BP model combines the advantages of an adaptive momentum technique with the backpropagation algorithm to enhance flood prediction accuracy and efficiency.Real-world flood data is used for validation,demonstrating the superior performance of the AM-BP algorithm compared to traditional methods.In addition,multilayer high-end computing architecture(MLCA)is used to handle weather data such as rainfall,river water level,soil moisture,etc.The AM-BP’s real-time abilities enable proactive flood management,facilitating timely responses and effective disaster mitigation.Furthermore,the AM-BP algorithm can analyze large and complex datasets,integrating environmental and climatic factors for more accurate flood prediction.The evaluation result shows that the AM-BP algorithm outperforms traditional approaches with an accuracy rate of 96%,96.4%F1-Measure,97%Precision,and 95.9%Recall.The proposed AM-BP model presents a promising solution for flood prediction and management in IoT networks,contributing to more resilient and efficient flood control strategies,and ensuring the safety and well-being of communities at risk of flooding.
文摘In object detection,spatial knowledge assisted systems are effective.Object detection is a main and challenging issue to analyze object-related information.Several existing object detection techniques were developed to consider the object detection problem as a classification problem to perform feature selection and classification.But these techniques still face,less computational efficiency and high time consumption.This paper resolves the above limitations using the Fuzzy Tversky index Ontology-based Multi-Layer Perception method which improves the accuracy of object detection with minimum time.The proposed method uses a multilayer forfinding the similarity score.A fuzzy membership function is used to validate the score for predicting the burned and non-burned zone.Experimental assessment is performed with different factors such as classification rate,time complexity,error rate,space complexity,and precision by using the forestfire dataset.The results show that this novel technique can help to improve the classification rate and reduce the time and space complexity as well as error rate than the conventional methods.

文摘Integration of remote sensing data and the geographical information system (GIS) for the exploration of groundwater resources has become a breakthrough in the field of groundwater research, which assists in assessing, monitoring, and conserving groundwater resources. In the present paper, various groundwater potential zones for the assessment of groundwater availability in Theni district have been delineated using remote sensing and GIS techniques. Survey of India toposheets and IRS-IC satel- lite imageries are used to prepare various thematic layers viz. lithology, slope, land-use, lineament, drainage, soil, and rainfall were transformed to raster data using feature to raster converter tool in ArcGIS. The raster maps of these factors are allocated a fixed score and weight computed from multi influencing factor (MIF) technique. Moreover, each weighted thematic layer is statistically computed to get the groundwater potential zones. The groundwater potential zones thus obtained were divided into four categories, viz., very poor, poor, good, and very good zones. The result depicts the groundwater potential zones in the study area and found to be helpful in better planning and management of ground- water resonrces.
文摘Soil salinity is one of the most important problems of crop production in estuarine and coastal zones. Improvement in salt tolerance of major food crops is an important way for the economic utilization of coastal zones. This study proved that the application of salicylic acid(SA) improved the growth and yield under salt stress conditions and investigated its physiological mechanisms for salt tolerance. The investigation on the effect of SA for salt tolerance during germination showed that the decreased rates of germination and growth(in terms of shoot and root lengths) by the salt stress were significantly increased by the SA application(SA + NaCl). The treatment of SA to the high and low saline soils enhanced the growth, yield and nutrient values of rice. The effects of SA on Na^+, K^+ and Cl~– ionic accumulation were traced under salt stress condition by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry and ion chromatography. It was revealed that the increased accumulation of Na^+ and Clˉ ions by the salt stress were reduced by SA application. An increased concentration of endogenous SA level was detected from the SA-treated rice varieties(ASD16 and BR26) by liquid chromatography electrospray Ionization-tandem mass spectrometry. The activities of antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase, catalase and peroxidase were increased by salt stress whereas decreased by the SA application. The study proved that the application of SA could alleviate the adverse effects of salt stress by the regulation of physiological mechanism in rice plants. In spite of salt stress, it can be applied to the coastal and estuarine regions to increase the rice production.

文摘Objective:To characterize the pharmacological importance of biosurfactants isolated from halophilic Bacillus sp BS3.Methods:Halophilic Bacillus sp.BS3 was isolated from solar salt works,identified by 16S rRNA sequencing and was used for screening their biosurfactant production.Characters of the biosurfactant and their anticancer activity were analyzed and performed in mammary epithelial carcinoma cell at different concentrations.Results:The biosurfactant were characterized by TLC,FTIR and GC-MS analysis and identified as lipopeptide type.GC-MS analysis revealed that,the biosurfactant had various compounds including 13Docosenamide.(Z);Mannosamine,9- and N,N,N',N'-tetramethyl.Surprisingly the antiviral activity was found against shrimp white spot syndrome virus(WSSV) by suppressing the viral replication and significantly raised shrimp survival(P<0.01).Anticancer activity performed in the mammary epithelial carcinoma cell at different concentrations of biosurfactants,among the various concentrations of biosurfactants such as 0.000 25,0.002 5,0.025,0.25 and 2.5 μ g,the 0.25 μ g concentration suppressed the cells significantly(P<0.05) to 24.8%.Conclusions:Based on the findings,the present study concluded that,there is a possibility to develop eco-friendly antimicrobial and anticancer drugs from the extremophilic origin.
文摘The applications of intelligent techniques have increased exponentially in recent days to study most of the non-linear parameters. In particular, the behavior of earth resembles the non- linearity applications. An efficient tool is needed for the interpretation of geophysical parameters to study the subsurface of the earth. Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) perform certain tasks if the structure of the network is modified accordingly for the purpose it has been used. The three most robust networks were taken and comparatively analyzed for their performance to choose the appropriate network. The single- layer feed-forward neural network with the back propagation algorithm is chosen as one of the well- suited networks after comparing the results. Initially, certain synthetic data sets of all three-layer curves have been taken tk^r training the network, and the network is validated by the field datasets collected from Tuticorin Coastal Region (78°7'30"E and 8°48'45"N), Tamil Nadu, India. The interpretation has been done successfully using the corresponding learning algorithm in the present study. With proper training of back propagation networks, it tends to give the resistivity and thickness of the subsurface layer model of the field resistivity data concerning the synthetic data trained earlier in the appropriate network. The network is trained with more Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES) data, and this trained network is demon- strated by the field data. Groundwater table depth also has been modeled.
文摘The aim of the present study was to screen cardioactive herbs from Western Ghats of India. The heart beat rate (HBR) and blood flow during systole and diastole were tested in zebrafish embryos. We found that Cynodon dactylon (C. dactylon) induced increases in the HBR in zebrafish embryos with a HBR of (3.968±0.344) beats/ s, which was significantly higher than that caused by betamethosone [(3.770±0.344) beats/s]. The EC50 value of C. dactylon was 3.738 μg/mL. The methanolic extract of Sida acuta (S. acuta) led to decreases in the HBR in zebrafish embryos [(1.877 ±0.079) beats/s], which was greater than that caused by nebivolol (positive control). The EC50 value of Sida acuta was 1.195 μg/mL. The untreated embryos had a HBR of (2.685±0.160) beats/s at 3 d post fertilization (dpf). The velocities of blood flow during the cardiac cycle were (2,291.667 ±72.169) μm/s for the control, (4,250± 125.000) μm/s for C. dactylon and (1,083.333±72.169) μm/s for S. acuta. The LC50 values were 32.6 μg/mL for C. dactylon and 20.9 μg/mL for S. acuta. In addition, the extracts exhibited no chemical genetic effects in the drug dosage range tested. In conclusion, we developed an assay that can measure changes in cardiac function in response to herbal small molecules and determine the cardiogenic effects by microvideography.

文摘Objective:The aim of the present study was to isolate the anti-MRSA(Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus)molecule from the Mangrove symbiont Streptomyces and its biomedical studies in Zebrafish embryos.Methods:MRSA was isolated from the pus samples of Colachal hospitals and confirmed by amplification of mecA gene.Anti-MRSA molecule producing strain was identified by!6s rRNA gene sequencing.Anti-MRSA compound production was optimized by Solid State Fermentation(SSF)and the purification of the active molecule was carried out by TLC and RP-HPLC.The inhibitory concentration and LC_(50)were calculated using Statistical software SPSS.The Biomedical studies including the cardiac assay and organ toxicity assessment were carried out in Zebraiish.Results:The bioactive anti-MRSA small molecule A,was purified by TLC with Rf value of 0.37 with 1.389 retention time at RP-HPLC.The Inhibitory Concentration of the purified molecule A_2 was 30μg/mL but,the inhibitory concentration of the MRSA in the infected embryo was 32-34μg/mL for TLC purified molecule A,with LC_(50)mean value was61.504μg/mL.Zebrafish toxicity was assessed in 48-60μg/mL by observing the physiological deformities and the heart beat rates(HBR)of embryos for anti MRSA molecule showed the mean of 41.33-41.67 HBR/15 seconds for 40μg/mL and control was 42.33-42.67 for 15 seconds which significantly showed that the anti-MRSA molecule A_2 did not affected the HBR.Conclusions:Anti-MRSA molecule from Streptomyces sp PVRK-I was isolated and biomedical studies in Zebrafish model assessed that the molecule was non toxic at the minimal inhibitory concentration of MRSA.
文摘In phylum Echinodermata, the family Holothuridae is distinguished by its capacity of bioactive compounds. Sea cu- cumber Holothuria atra is commonly known as the lollyfish. The antifimgal activity was detected using agar well diffusion method against the various fungal strains such as Trichoderma viride, Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavis, Candida albicans and Penicillium chrysogenum. Relatively high antifungal activity was seen against Candida albicans at 100 μL-1 concentration of extracts. Zone of inhibition was measured at 18 mm of diameter. The anti-tumor activities were detected against the Vero and Hep2 cell lines using MTT assay. The cells were treated with H. atra extract at concentrations 0.078-10mg mL-1. The extract showed high proliferative activity against the Hep2 cells. The body wall extracts of sea cucumber (H. atra) showed effective antifungal and antitumor activities All these findings suggest that the extracts could be used for the development of drugs.

文摘An attempt was made to deposit thin film of silver onto the glass substrate by using Ag Cl precursor, instead of conventional precursor AgNO_3 with vitamin C by inexpensive and convenient successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction(SILAR) method. The deposited silver thin film was characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD) analysis, scanning electron microscope(SEM), UV-visible and electrical I-V study. The diffraction study showed FCC structure of metallic silver in good agreement with the standard values of JCPDS(04–0783). SEM reveals flower like nano particles produced on the substrate. The surface plasmon resonance(SPR) peak in the UV-visible spectrum shows maximum absorption at 350 nm. The film shows an ohmic behavior and its electrical resistivity was found ~103 ?·cm at room temperature.

文摘Poly caprolactone(PCL)and Poly caprolactone/TiO_(2)(PCL/TiO_(2))composite nanofiber with different weight percentage compositions(2 wt%,4 wt%and 6 wt%)of TiO_(2)were prepared and coated over AM50 alloy using electrospinning technique.The surface morphology and elemental composition result confirms that the PCL/TiO_(2)composite nanofiber fiber were successfully electrospun on the surface of AM50 alloy.The degradation behavior of PCL and PCL/6 wt%TiO_(2)coated AM50 alloy was studied by immersing in Simulated Body Fluid(SBF)solution.The electrochemical and cell proliferation studies reveals that the cellular behavior of PCL and PCL/6 wt%TiO_(2)composite nanofiber exhibited good support for cell proliferation with enhanced corrosion resistance of AM50 alloy in SBF solution.

文摘The present study focused on the estimation of submarine groundwater discharge(SGD)and the effects of nutrient fluxes due to the SGD process.The parameters of SGD such as magnitude,character,and nutrient flux in Punnakayal region of South East coast of India were evaluated using multiple tracers of groundwater inputs in 2019.It was found that the elevated values for the tracers in the study area,displayed a gradational change in the values as move from estuarine part to the offshore.Simultaneous occurrence of fresh and saline SGD is observed on the study sites.Also,indicated that the SGD fluxes ranged from 0.04 to 0.12 m^3 m^-2d^-1 at the estuary and0.03-0.15 m^3 m^-2d^-1at the groundwater site.A substantially increased value for 222 Rn activities is distinguished in the estuary to values over 312 dpm L^-1.Nutrient embellishments were generally greatest at locations with substantial meteoric elements in groundwater;however,the recirculation of saltwater through the geological formation could provide a way of transferring terrestrially-derived nutrients to the coastal zone at many places.
文摘Mesoporous zinc oxide nanostructures are successfully synthesized via the sol-gel route by using a rice husk as the template for ethanol sensing at room temperature. The structure and morphology of the nanostructures are characterized by x-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and nitrogen adsorption-desorption analyses. The mechanism for the growth of zinc oxide nanostructures over the biotemplate is proposed. SEM and TEM observations also reveal the formation of spherical zinc oxide nanoparticles over the interwoven fibrous network. Multiple sized pores having pore diameter ranging from 10- 4Ohm is also evidenced from the pore size distribution plot. The larger surface area and porous nature of the material lead to high sensitivity (40.93% for 300 ppm of ethanol), quick response (42s) and recovery (40 s) towards ethanol at 30014. The porous nature of the interwoven fibre-like network affords mass transportation of ethanol vapor, which results in faster surface accessibility, and hence it acts as a potential candidate for ethanol sensing at room temperature.
文摘Nickel nanoparticles as an eco-friendly adsorbent was biosynthesized using Ocimum sanctum leaf extract. The physiochemical properties of green synthesized nickel nanoparticles(Ni Gs) were characterized by UV–Vis spectroscopy(UV–Vis), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy(FTIR), X-ray diffraction(XRD), Scanning Electron Microscope(SEM) and Transmission Electron Microscope(TEM). Ni Gs were used as adsorbent for the removal of dyes such as crystal violet(CV), eosin Y(EY), orange II(OR) and anionic pollutant nitrate(NO3-), sulfate(SO42-) from aqueous solution. Adsorption capacity of Ni Gs was examined in batch modes at different p H, contact time, Ni G dosage, initial dye and pollutant concentration. The adsorption process was p H dependent and the adsorption capacity increased with increase in contact time and with that of Ni G dosage, whereas the adsorption capacity decreased at higher concentrations of dyes and pollutants. Maximum percentage removal of dyes and pollutants were observed at 40, 20,30, 10 and 10 mg·L-1initial concentration of CV, EY, OR, NO3-and SO42-respectively. The maximum adsorption capacities in Langmuir isotherm were found to be 0.454, 0.615, 0.273, 0.795 and 0.645 mg·g-1at p H 8, 3, 3, 7and 7 for CV, EY, OR, NO3-and SO42-respectively. The higher coef ficients of correlation in Langmuir isotherm suggested monolayer adsorption. The mean energies(E), 2.23, 3.53, 2.50, 5.00 and 3.16 k J·mol-1for CV, EY, OR, NO3-and SO42-respectively, calculated from the Dubinin–Radushkevich isotherm showed physical adsorption of adsorbate onto Ni Gs. Adsorption kinetics data was better fitted to pseudo-second-order kinetics with R2 N 0.870 for all dyes and pollutants. Ni Gs were found to be an effective adsorbent for the removal of dyes and pollutants from aqueous solution and can be applied to treat textile and tannery ef fluents.
文摘Objective:To isolate the multiple drug resistance(MDR) Mycobacterium tuberculosis(M. tuberculosis) and to screen for the bioactive compounds extracted from marine microalgae. Methods:Sixty seven collected samples that were confirmed by 16S rDNA analysis as positive with M.tuberculosis infection were subjected to sensitivity test against commercially used front line and second line drugs by absolute concentration method using LJ slants.Seven bacterial isolates numbered I-78,I-101,I-127,I-173,I-202,I-262,I-327 showed resistant for more than 3 drugs were considered as MDR M.tuberculosis.Thus the percentage of 10.4 were recorded MDR-TB.
