Imme- diately after the stretching, a suspension of human amniotic epithelial cells was injected into the injured brachial plexus. The results of tensile mechanical testing of the brachial plexus showed that the tensile elastic limit strain, elastic limit stress, maximum stress, and maximum strain of the injured brachial plexuses were significantly increased at 24 weeks after the injection. Our postulate is that cytoskeletal stiffening is a necessary condition for evolution of complex multicellular organisms from early simple eukaryotes. Recent findings show that embryonic stem cells are as soft as primitive eukaryotes-amoebae and that differentiated tissue cells can be two orders of magnitude stiffer than embryonic stem cells. Soft embryonic stem cells become stiff as they differentiate into tissue cells of the complex multicellular organisms to match their microenvironment stiffness. We perhaps see in differentiation of embryonic stem cells (derived from inner cell mass cells) the echo of those early evolutionary events. Early soft unicellular organisms might have evolved to stiffen their cytoskeleton to protect their structural integrity from external mechanical stresses while being able to maintain form, to change shape, and to move.展开更多

Tensile and low cycle fatigue behaviors of the C11000 copper and H63 copper-zinc alloy were obtained by using a miniature tester that combined the functions of in situ tensile and fatigue testing. A piezoelectric actuator was adopted as the actuator for the fatigue testing, and the feasibility of the fatigue actuator was verified by the transient harmonic response analysis based on static tensile preload and dynamic sinusoidal load. The experimental results show that the yield strength and tensile strength of the C11000 copper are improved after adding 37%(mass fraction) zinc, and H63 copper-zinc alloy presents more obvious cyclic hardening behavior and more consumed irreversible plastic work during each stress cycle compared with C11000 copper for the same strain controlled cycling. 文摘High-quality wood products and valuable wood crafts receive everyone’s favor with the rapid development of the economy. In order to improve the cutting surface quality of wood forming parts, the cutting experiment of renewable Fraxinus mandshurica was conducted by waterjet-assisted CO_(2)laser(WACL)technology.A quadratic mathematical model for describing the relationship between surface roughness changes and cutting parameters was established. The effects of cutting speed, flow pressure and laser power on the kerf surface roughness of Fraxinus mandshurica when cutting transversally were discussed by response surface method. The experimental results showed that kerf surface roughness decreased under a lower laser power, higher cutting speed and higher flow pressure. When the cutting speed was 30 mm/s,flow pressure was 1.58 MPa and laser power was 45 W,the actual surface roughness of the optimized Fraxinus mandshurica was 2.41μm,and it was in accord with the theoretically predicted surface roughness value of 2.54μm,so the model fitted the actual situation well.Through the analysis of 3D profile morphology and micromorphology,it was concluded that the optimized kerf surface of Fraxinus mandshurica was smoother, the cell wall was not destroyed and the tracheid was clear. It provides the theoretical basis for wood micromachining.

文摘The sampling process is very inefficient for sam-pling-based motion planning algorithms that excess random sam-ples are generated in the planning space. In this paper,we pro-pose an adaptive space expansion(ASE)approach which belongs to the informed sampling category to improve the sampling effi-ciency for quickly finding a feasible path. The ASE method enlarges the search space gradually and restrains the sampling process in a sequence of small hyper-ellipsoid ring subsets to avoid exploring the unnecessary space.Specifically, for a con-structed small hyper-ellipsoid ring subset,if the algorithm cannot find a feasible path in it,then the subset is expanded. Thus, the ASE method successively does space exploring and space expan-sion until the final path has been found.Besides,we present a particular construction method of the hyper-ellipsoid ring that uniform random samples can be directly generated in it.At last,we present a feasible motion planner BiASE and an asymptoti-cally optimal motion planner BiASE*using the bidirectional exploring method and the ASE strategy.Simulations demon-strate that the computation speed is much faster than that of the state-of-the-art algorithms. The source codes are available at https://github.com/shshlei/ompl.

文摘The spatiotemporally-nonlocal phenomena in heat conduction become significant but challenging for metamaterials with artificial microstructures. However, the microstructure-dependent heat conduction phenomena are captured under the hypothesis of spatiotemporally local equilibrium. To capture the microstructure-dependent heat conduction phenomena,a generalized nonlocal irreversible thermodynamics is proposed by removing both the temporally-local and spatially-local equilibrium hypotheses from the classical irreversible thermodynamics. The generalized nonlocal irreversible thermodynamics has intrinsic length and time parameters and thus can provide a thermodynamics basis for the spatiotemporally-nonlocal law of heat conduction. To remove the temporallylocal equilibrium hypothesis, the generalized entropy is assumed to depend not only on the internal energy but also on its first-order and high-order time derivatives. To remove the spatially local equilibrium hypothesis, the thermodynamics flux field in the dissipation function is assumed to relate not only to the thermodynamics force at the reference point but also to the thermodynamics force of the neighboring points. With the developed theoretical framework, the thermodynamics-consistent spatiotemporally-nonlocal models can then be developed for heat transfer problems. Two examples are provided to illustrate the applications of steady-state and transient heat conduction problems.

文摘Thermal management of nanoscale quantum dots(QDs)in light-emitting devices is a long-lasting challenge. The existing heat transfer reinforcement solutions for QDs-polymer composite mainly rely on thermal-conductive fillers. However, this strategy failed to deliver the QDs’heat generation across a long distance, and the accumulated heat still causes considerable temperature rise of QDs-polymer composite, which eventually menaces the performance and reliability of lightemitting devices.Inspired by the radially aligned fruit fibers in oranges,we proposed to eliminate this heat dissipation challenge by establishing long-range ordered heat transfer pathways within the QDs-polymer composite.Ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene fibers(UPEF)were radially aligned throughout the polymer matrix, thus facilitating massive efficient heat dissipation of the QDs.Under a UPEF filling fraction of 24.46 vol%,the in-plane thermal conductivity of QDs-radially aligned UPEF composite(QDs-RAPE)could reach 10.45 W m^(−1) K^(−1),which is the highest value of QDs-polymer composite reported so far.As a proof of concept, the QDs’working temperature can be reduced by 342.5℃ when illuminated by a highly concentrated laser diode(LD)under driving current of 1000 mA,thus improving their optical performance. This work may pave a new way for next generation high-power QDs lighting applications.

文摘Due to the novel applications of flexible pipes conveying fluid in the field of soft robotics and biomedicine, the investigations on the mechanical responses of the pipes have attracted considerable attention. The fluid-structure interaction(FSI)between the pipe with a curved shape and the time-varying internal fluid flow brings a great challenge to the revelation of the dynamical behaviors of flexible pipes, especially when the pipe is highly flexible and usually undergoes large deformations. In this work, the geometrically exact model(GEM)for a curved cantilevered pipe conveying pulsating fluid is developed based on the extended Hamilton's principle. The stability of the curved pipe with three different subtended angles is examined with the consideration of steady fluid flow.Specific attention is concentrated on the large-deformation resonance of circular pipes conveying pulsating fluid, which is often encountered in practical engineering.By constructing bifurcation diagrams, oscillating shapes, phase portraits, time traces, and Poincarémaps, the dynamic responses of the curved pipe under various system parameters are revealed. The mean flow velocity of the pulsating fluid is chosen to be either subcritical or supercritical. The numerical results show that the curved pipe conveying pulsating fluid can exhibit rich dynamical behaviors, including periodic and quasi-periodic motions. It is also found that the preferred instability type of a cantilevered curved pipe conveying steady fluid is mainly in the flutter of the second mode. For a moderate value of the mass ratio, however,a third-mode flutter may occur, which is quite different from that of a straight pipe system.

文摘Difficult-to-machine materials (DMMs) are extensively applied in critical fields such as aviation, semiconductor, biomedicine, and other key fields due to their excellent material properties. However, traditional machining technologies often struggle to achieve ultra-precision with DMMs resulting from poor surface quality and low processing efficiency. In recent years,field-assisted machining (FAM) technology has emerged as a new generation of machining technology based on innovative principles such as laser heating, tool vibration, magnetic magnetization, and plasma modification, providing a new solution for improving the machinability of DMMs.This technology not only addresses these limitations of traditional machining methods, but also has become a hot topic of research in the domain of ultra-precision machining of DMMs.Many new methods and principles have been introduced and investigated one after another, yet few studies have presented a comprehensive analysis and summarization. To fill this gap and understand the development trend of FAM,this study provides an important overview of FAM,covering different assisted machining methods, application effects, mechanism analysis, and equipment design. The current deficiencies and future challenges of FAM are summarized to lay the foundation for the further development of multi-field hybrid assisted and intelligent FAM technologies.

文摘This paper aims to solve large-scale and complex isogeometric topology optimization problems that consumesignificant computational resources. A novel isogeometric topology optimization method with a hybrid parallelstrategy of CPU/GPU is proposed, while the hybrid parallel strategies for stiffness matrix assembly, equationsolving, sensitivity analysis, and design variable update are discussed in detail. To ensure the high efficiency ofCPU/GPU computing, a workload balancing strategy is presented for optimally distributing the workload betweenCPU and GPU. To illustrate the advantages of the proposedmethod, three benchmark examples are tested to verifythe hybrid parallel strategy in this paper. The results show that the efficiency of the hybrid method is faster thanserial CPU and parallel GPU, while the speedups can be up to two orders of magnitude.
