The Development of Electricity Grid, Smart Grid and Renewable Energy in Taiwan

The grid has played a vital role in the evolution of the electricity market;from traditional to smart grids;from fossil fuel power generated electricity grid connections to the integration of other renewable energy forms such as solar and wind power;the grid has played a key role in each step in Taiwan’s move towards energy transition. This study includes Taiwan’s construction of its transmission and distribution network, the recently passed newly revised version of the Electricity Act with its revisions to its transmission and distribution related content, and policies promoting the smart grid as well as issues that the renewable energy grid has raised in both the technical and legal aspects. Taiwan’s electricity supply system is made up of the northern, central and southern systems. The Transmission and distribution grid have been defined as a common carrier, maintaining state-owned monopoly. The smart grid has 6 main facets to promote, including smart generation and dispatch, smart transmission, smart consumers, smart grid electricity grid industry and the establishment of a smart grid environment. Due to the possible effects of the integration of renewable energy generated electricity, there is a vital need for the regulation of the grid’s management and skills. 展开更多

Microstructural features and ionic conductivity of divalent(Mg 2+)and trivalent(Gd 3+)cations co-doped ceria electrolyte system Ce_ 0.8-xGd_ 0.2Mg_xO_ 1.9-x were investigated by scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and AC impedance analysis.The experimental results exhibit that addition of MgO to GDC reduces the average binding energy of GDC by decreasing the energy barrier of oxygen ion migration in ceria matrix and the ionic conductivity of 2 mol% magnesium doped GDC(0.018 S/cm)is higher than that of GDC matrix at 650℃(0.0105 S/cm).Co-doping Mg 2+ and Gd 3+ is found to increase the ionic conductivity of ceria and hence decreases the operation temperature as well as the cost of solid oxide fuel cell(SOFC). 展开更多

Background:The few previous studies that focused on the effects of compression garments(CG)on distance running performance have simultaneously measured electromyogram,physiological,and perceptual parameters.Therefore,this study investigated the effects of CG on muscle activation and median frequency during and after distance running,as well as blood-lactate concentration and rating of perceived exertion(RPE)during distance running.Methods:Eight healthy male recreational runners were recruited to randomly perform two 40 min treadmill running trials,one with CG,and the other with control garment made of normal cloth.The RPE and the surface electromyography(EMG)of 5 lower extremity muscles including gluteus maximus(GM),rectus femoris(RF),semitendinosus(ST),tibialis anterior(TA),and gastrocnemius(GAS)were measured during the running trial.The blood-lactate levels before and after the running trial were measured.Results:Wearing CG led to significant lower muscle activation(p<0.05)in the GM(decreased 7.40%-14.31%),RF(decreased 4.39%-4.76%),and ST(decreased 3.42%-7.20%)muscles;moreover,significant higher median frequency(p<0.05)in the GM(increased 5.57%)and ST(increased 10.58%)muscles.Wearing CG did not alter the RPE values or the blood-lactate levels(p>0.05).Conclusion:Wearing CG was associated with significantly lower muscle activation and higher median frequency in the running-related key muscles during distance running.This finding suggested that wearing CG may improve muscle function,which might enhance running performance and prevent muscle fatigue. 展开更多

In recent years, the application of the Internet of Things(Io T) has become an emerging business. The most important concept of next-generation network for providing a common global IT platform is combining seamless networks and networked things, objects or sensors. Also, wireless body area networks(WBANs) are becoming mature with the widespread usage of the Io T. In order to support WBAN, the platform, scenario and emergency service are necessary due to the sensors in WBAN being related to wearer's life. The sensors on the body detect a lot of information about bioinformatics and medical signals, such as heartbeat and blood.Thus, the integration of Io T and network communication in daily life is important. However, there is not only a lack of common fabric for integrating Io T with current Internet and but also no emergency call process in the current network communication environment. To overcome such situations, the prototype of integrating Io T and emergency call process is discussed. A simulated bootstrap platform to provide the discussion of open challenges and solutions for deploying Io T in Internet and the emergency communication system are analyzed by using a service of 3GPP IP multimedia subsystem. Finally, the prototype for supporting WBAN with emergence service is also addressed and the performance results are useful to service providers and network operators that they can estimate their migration to Io T by referring to this experience and experiment results. Furthermore, the queuing model used to achieve the performance of emergency service in IMS and the delay time of the proposed model is analyzed. 展开更多

Electrical Properties and Grain Growth Kinetics of PZN-based Ceramics Using Microwave Sintering

Effectiveness of microwave sintering process through investigation of microstructural characteristics and electrical properties of x(0.94PbZn_ 1/3Nb_ 2/3O_3 + 0.06BaTiO_3)+(1-x)PbZr_yTi_ 1-yO_3(PBZNZT)ceramics with x=0.6 and y=0.52 was evaluated.The relative density of 95% was achieved with sintering at 800℃ for 2 h.The small grain growth exponents indicate how easy the grain growth in these materials sintered using microwave radiation.Grain growth rate increases abruptly and is higher than that of conventional sintering at a temperature higher than 1050℃.This is attributed to the lower activation energy and higher grain boundary mobility.The activation energy required for the grain growth is found to be 132kJ/mol.Higher remanent polarization(Pr=50.1μC/cm2)and increase in remanent polarization with sintering temperature are observed in microwave sintering process when compared to that of conventional sintering process,due to fast increase in grain growth rate and homogeneity in the specimen.The results indicate lower sintering energy and reduction of PbO pollution in the working environment by microwave sintering process. 展开更多

The limit difference of deformation control value of thesupport structure section where geological accidents frequently happen, is small, andartificial half-automatic supervisory technology cannot get the health condition of tunnelin time, resulting many cars speed-down accidents due to deformation of supportstructure. Through design innovation, we introduce TGMIS in the later period ofYanzishan railway construction to quickly capture the deformation of support structure,the strain of lining concrete, the strain of steel frame, stress of surrounding soil, stress ofsurrounding water, strain of second lining steel bar and other situ data. Also we setobservation prism and measuring robot device in specific position inside tunnel, androbot laser locator laser spot is projected onto reflection target surface, by graphicprocessing algorithm, the receiver calculates the measured value and standard value ofthe 3D coordinates of the laser spot. Then the information is transmitted throughtransmitting device, transducer and USB-485 to computer to predict and evaluate thehealth condition of the support structure of the tunnel so as to provide safety warninginformation. In this paper, we present a vision guided robotic ball-beam balancing control system, consisting of a robot manipulator (actuator), a ball-beam system (plant) and a machine vision system (feedback). The machine vision system feedbacks real-time beam angle and ball position data at a speed of 50 frames per second. Based on feedback data, the end-effector of a robot manipulator is driven to control the ball position by maneuvering of the inclination angle of the ball-beam system. The overall control system is implemented with two FPGA chips, one for machine vision processing, and one for robot joints servo PID controllers as well as ball position PD controller. Experiments are performed on a 5-axes robot manipulator to validate the proposed ball beam balancing control system. 展开更多

The global trend towards carbon reduction,energy conservation,and sustainable use of resources has led to an increased focus on the use of waste sludge in construction.We used waste sludge from a reservoir to produce high-strength sintered lightweight aggregate,and then used the densified mixture design algorithm to create high-performance concrete from the sintered aggregate with only small amounts of mixing water and cement.Ultrasonic,electrical resistance and concrete strength efficiency tests were performed in accordance with ASTM(American Society for Testing and Materials)standards.In addition to the high workability,high quality and strengths of up to 10 000 Mpa,it was found that this concrete does not require special care. The results show that if both the quality and quantity of hydraulic grout are appropriate,the concrete has excellent fresh properties as well as ideal engineering properties. 展开更多

A halftone watermarking method of high quality, robustness, and capacity flexibility is presented in this paper. An objective halftone image quality evaluation method based on the human visual system obtained by a least-mean-square algorithm is also introduced. In the encoder, the kernels-alternated error diffusion (KAEDF) is applied. It is able to maintain the computational complexity at the same level as ordinary error diffusion. Compared with Hel-Or using ordered dithering, the proposed KAEDF yields a better image quality through using error diffusion. We also propose a weighted lookup table (WLUT) in the decoder instead of lookup table (LUT), as proposed by Pei and Guo, so as to achieve a higher decoded rate. As the experimental results demonstrate, this technique is able to guard against degradation due to tampering, cropping, rotation, and print-and-scan processes in error-diffused halftone images. 展开更多

In order to make the number of pilesmeet the needs of the development of new energy vehicles, this study aims toapply the method of system dynamics and combined with the grey prediction theory to determine the parameters as well as to simulate and analyze the ratio ofvehicles to chargers. Through scenario analysis, it is predicted that by 2030, thisratio will gradually decrease from 1.79 to 1. In order to achieve this ratio as 1:1, itis necessary to speed up the construction of public charging station or privatecharging station. Due to global warming, the attitudes of countries towards fuelvehicles have become increasingly tough. There is huge uncertainty in the growthrate of electric vehicles. Therefore, it is recommended that the construction ofcharging station be deployed in advance to avoid hindering the development ofelectric vehicles in the future. 展开更多

Dichroic behaviors of layered ReS2 have been characterized using angular dependent polarizedabsorption and resistivity measurements in the van der Waal plane. The angular dependent optical and electrical measurements are carried out with angles ranging from θ= 0°(E || b) to θ= 90°(E ^b) with respect to the layer crystal’s b-axis. The angular de pendence of polarized energy gaps of ReS2 shows a sinusoidal variation of energies from ~1.341 eV (E ||b to ~1.391 eV (E ^ b). The experimental evidence of polarized energy gap leaves ReS2 apotential usage for fabrication of a polarized optical switch suitable for polarized optical communication in nearinfrared (NIR) region. Angular dependence of resistivities of ReS2 in?the vander Waal plane has also been evaluated. The relationship of inplane resistivities shows a sinusoidallike variation from θ= 0°(E ||b) to 90°(E ^ b) and repeated periodically to 360°. The experimental results of optical and electrical measurements indicated that ReS2 is not only an opticaldichroic layer but also an electricaldichroism material presented in the layer plane. 展开更多

Reducing steel slag (RSS) was mainly acquired from five electric-arc furnace (EAF) steelmaking plants (among them, the products of two plants were carbon steel and those of other plants were stainless steel) for research tests. The chemical properties, compound compositions, activities and contents of main expansive compounds were tested. The results showed that the field sampled RSS had a very high crystallinity and hydraulicity with main chemical compositions close to those of Portland cement. It can be known from the study that in case of C/S ratio higher than 2.0, the main compound compositions are C2S, C3S, C2F and f-CaO. However, after the RSS was stored for six months, an obvious variation occurred with potential pre-hydration in RSS, where the SO3 content was slightly reduced and the compressive activity index was obviously higher than that at the 28th day. 展开更多

A novel indicator called price-citation was proposed.Based on the company integrated patent database of China listed companies of common stocks(A-shares)with the stock price and the stock return rate data,more than two thousand of A-shares from 2017 to 2020 were selected.The effect of the traditional patent forward citation and the price-citation for discriminating the stock return rate was thoroughly analyzed via ANOVA.The A-shares of forward citation counts above the average showed higher stock return rate means than the A-shares having patents but receiving no forward citations.The price-citation,combining both the financial and patent attributes,defined as the multiplication of the current stock price and the currently receiving forward citation count,showed its excellence in discriminating the stock return rate.The A-shares of higher price-citation showed significantly higher stock return rate means while the A-shares of lower price-citation showed significantly lowest stock return rate means.The price-citation effect had not been changed by COVID-19 though COVID-19 affected the social and economic environment to a considerable extent in 2020. 展开更多

This paper proposes a novel Gm-C loop filter instead of a conventional passive loop filter used in a phase-locked loop.The innovative advantage of the proposed architecture is tunable loop filter bandwidth and hence the process variations of passive elements of resistance R and capacitance C can be overcome and the chip area is greatly reduced.Furthermore,the MASH 1-1-1 sigma-delta(Σ▽) modulator is adopted for performing the fractional division number and hence improves the phase noise as well.Measured results show that the locked phase noise is 114.1 dBc/Hz with lower G m-C bandwidth and 111.7 dBm/C with higher G m-C bandwidth at 1 MHz offset from carrier of 5.68 GHz.Including pads and built-in Gm-C filter,the chip area of the proposed frequency synthesizer is 1.06 mm 2.The output power is 8.69 dBm at 5.68 GHz and consumes 56 mW with an off-chip buffer from 1.8-V supply voltage. 展开更多
