Objective: This multicenter clinical study was to assess the clinical usability of an oral moisture-checking device in detecting the dry mouth patients and evaluating the optimal measurement site. Materials and Methods: The study group comprised 250 patients with dry mouth and 241 healthy volunteer subjects at 13 medical centers. This device was used to measure the moisture degrees of the lingual mucosa and the buccal mucosa. Subjective oral dryness, objective oral dryness, and saliva flow rates were also compared between the two groups. For statistical analysis, receiver-operating characteristic analysis was performed to calculate the area under the curve (AUC). Results: The moisture degree of the lingual mucosa was significantly lower in the dry mouth group (27.2 ± 4.9) than that in the healthy group (29.5 ± 3.1, AUC = 0.653). When a lingual mucosa moisture degree of 31.0 or higher was defined as normal, less than 27.0 as dry mouth, and 27.0 to less than 31.0 as borderline zone of dry mouth, both the sensitivity and the specificity for the diagnosis of dry mouth were close to 80%. Conclusion: These results suggest that the oral moisture-checking device is a usable screening device for dry mouth. 展开更多

The pathogenesis remains unknown. Its often fortuitous discovery usually is in the fourth decade of life. Its treatment involves surgery. Our aim was to report a case of osseous dysplasia secondary infection in Senegal. Observation: The over sixty-year-old patient initially came for recurring old suppuration. A prior history of dental avulsions and self-medication was found out. The clinical features were predominant chronic osteitic manifestations. Its radiologic presentation suggested a florid form. The combination of spiramycin-metronidazole had to be given twice. The isolated sequestrum was enucleated and the anatomopathology confirmed the diagnostics. Discussion: The patient’s age conformed to late discovery due to silent progression and poor access to medical care. The prior iatrogenic avulsions can be explained by the absence of systematic radiological exploration and by the unawareness of the inconspicuous tumor. The clinical and radiological features at this stage of the osseous dysplasia secondary infection were typical. The treatment and the follow-up were dependent on the prevailing work conditions. Conclusion: The chronic osteitic manifestations are indicative of osseous dysplasia in elderly women in Senegal. 展开更多

Objective: To investigate if immediate reconstruction of fresh extraction sockets’ lost buccal wall would reduce the possibilities of implant surface exposure and improve the treatment predictability. Materials and Methods: A retrospective chart review of Healthy patients harboring periodontally compromised anterior teeth that were planned for extraction and subsequent implant therapy were the target of our study. All the sockets included witnessed loss of the buccal bone plate. Seventy-two anterior sockets were grafted with xenogenic grafts to reconstruct such defects immediately after the extractions. 9 to 13 months later, the alveolar ridges were surgically exposed and implants were placed. Results: All the surgical sites did not show any labial plate thinning, dehiscence, or fenestration at the time of implant placement. Moreover, no gingival recession and implant metal show was noticed up to 39 months post crown placement. Conclusion: Immediate reconstructions of lost buccal plate in fresh extraction sockets reduces the chances of implant surface exposure up to two years post crown placement. 展开更多
