CLINICAL APPLICATION OF CONTRALATERAL ACUPUNCTURE TECHNIQUE

Contralateral acupuncture is an ancient acupuncture technique in selection of points. Early in Internal Classic, there has been a comprehensive exposition of this acupuncture technique, but less mention of it in modern time. Here the author would like to offer his personal experience through clinical practice.

Thickness evolution of graphite-based cathodes in the dual ion batteries via in operando optical observation

Graphite has been currently considered as a promising cathode material in dual ion batteries(DIBs)due to its unique features of sp2 hybridized carbon and stacked two-dimensional layered structures.However,unexpected volume/thickness changes in the graphite cathodes,induced by the intercalation/deintercalation of anions with large molecular size have been known to be a critical problem in designing DIB cells.To understand the volume/thickness changes in the DIB electrodes,in operando optical observing apparatus has been employed to observe the cross-section view of a graphite-based cathode upon cycles in the present work.The observation suggests that the cathode initially presented a huge irreversible thickness change(60%),and such thickness variation was prone to reduce and remain <20% in the following cycles.The results from both in operando observation and electrochemical characterizations collectively indicate that the greater thickness variation at initial cycle should be attributed to both anion intercalation into graphite-based cathodes and irreversible decomposition of chemical components in the DIB system.The method here highlights a universal route for fundamentally understanding the electrodes of huge volume variation.

真实语料在外语教学中起着重要作用。本文作者刘志刚老师有着多年对外汉语教学经验,并在教学中不断进行反思和提炼,建立了一套来源于影视作品的真实语料视频素材库,在实践中加以运用并证明效果良好。本刊将刊登刘志刚老师的视频素材库的建立思路、过程和使用方法。本文是该素材库的总体介绍,包括其建立依据、在汉语教学中的作用和几大特点。希望通过这一系列实践报告,能够对一线汉语教学有所帮助,并对有志于在汉语教学方面做出成就的教师的职业发展起到激励作用。

Clinical Application of Same-Name Channel Point Selection

The namesake channel point selection is a method adopted in acupuncture treatment, in which the points on the six pairs of channels on the upper and lower extremities with same names are selected and needled. Clinically, this method is mainly used for some acute soft tissue injuries, for instance, needling point Yangchi (TE 4) with reducing method for sprain of external malleolus, needling Qiuxu (GB 40) with reducing method for sprain of dorsal carpus, and needling Tiaokou (ST 38) for lateral shoulder pain. The therapeutic effect given by this point selection method is often superior to that given by the conventional needling method. In clinical practice, the author has found some typical cases, which respond well to this method, and reports them below.

Experience in the Clinical Application of Naokong(GB19)

Naokong (GB19) is located 1.5 cun above Fengchi (GB20) and at the level with Naohu (GV17) in the depression of the lateral side of the external occipital protuberance. It belongs to the Gallbladder Channel of Foot Shaoyang, and is a crossing point of the Foot Shaoyang Channel and the Yangwei Channel. As is said in A Collection of Gems in Acupuncture and Moxibustion, Naokong (GB19) is indicated for emaciation due to over strain and stress, fever, neck rigidity, unbearable pain in the head, heavy eyes and palpitation as well as xenophthalmia and rhinalgia caused by epileptic seizure in severe cases. In clinical practice, the author has adopted Naokong (GB 19) as the main point in treating some obstinate diseases and obtained quite good therapeutic effects.

Mechanisms underlying syntactic and semantic processing of Chinese simple sentences Evidence from event-related brain potentials

This study sought to test the processing of three types of sentences in Chinese, as correct sentences, semantic violation sentences, and sentences containing semantic and syntactic violations, based on the following sentence pattern： ＂subject （noun） ＋ yi/gang/zheng ＋ predicate （verb）＂. Event-related potentials on the scalp were recorded using 32-channel electroencephalography. Compared with correct sentences, target words elicited an early left anterior negativity （N400） and a later positivity （P600） over frontal, central and temporal sites in sentences involving semantic violations. In addition, when sentences contained both semantic and syntactic violations, the target words elicited a greater N400 and P600 distributed in posterior brain areas. These results indicate that Chinese sentence comprehension involves covert grammar processes.

Ten Years’Chinese-Canadian Collaboration in Undergraduate Education in Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University of China:Curriculum Development

The Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University-Nova Scotia Agricultural College(FAFU-NSAC)2+2 undergraduate program initiated in 2003 is a model for creative collaboration between China and Canada in undergraduate education.This paper addresses the achievements of the program development and highlights the process for successful curriculum development in the joint program.The authors also discuss some issues and challenges related to the Chinese-Canadian experience in undergraduate education,and propose some recommendations for further collaborations including:enlarging the scale of qualified programs;proposing a systematic baseline to control the program at a macro-level;simplifying coordination procedures with foreign partners;and adjusting the emphasis of courses introduced by the cooperative partner from quantity to quality.

A shear-thinning,ROS-scavenging hydrogel combined with dental pulp stem cells promotes spinal cord repair by inhibiting ferroptosis

Spinal cord injury(SCI)is a serious clinical disease.Due to the deformability and fragility of the spinal cord,overly rigid hydrogels cannot be used to treat SCI.Hence,we used TPA and Laponite to develop a hydrogel with shear-thinning ability.This hydrogel exhibits good deformation,allowing it to match the physical properties of the spinal cord;additionally,this hydrogel scavenges ROS well,allowing it to inhibit the lipid peroxidation caused by ferroptosis.According to the in vivo studies,the TPA@Laponite hydrogel could synergistically inhibit ferroptosis by improving vascular function and regulating iron metabolism.In addition,dental pulp stem cells(DPSCs)were introduced into the TPA@Laponite hydrogel to regulate the ratios of excitatory and inhibitory synapses.It was shown that this combination biomaterial effectively reduced muscle spasms and promoted recovery from SCI.

Clinical Application of Surrounding Puncture

Surrounding puncture can stop pathogenic qi from spreading, consolidate the connection between local meridians and enrich local qi and blood, which can eventually supplement anti-pathogenic qi and remove pathogenic qi, and consequently remedy diseases. The author of this article summrized and analyzed the clinical application of surrounding puncture for the purpose of studying this technique and improving the therapeutic effect.
