Influence of aluminium nitride as a foaming agent on the preparation of foam glass-ceramics from high-titanium blast furnace slag

To effectively reuse high-titanium blast furnace slag （TS）, foam glass-ceramics were successfully prepared by powder sintering at 1000℃. TS and waste glass were used as the main raw materials, aluminium nitride （AIN） as the foaming agent, and borax as the fluxing agent. The influence of the amount of A1N added （lwt%-5wt%） on the crystalline phases, microstructure, and properties of the produced foam glass-ceramics was studied. The results showed that the main crystal phases were perovskite, diopside, and augite. With increasing A1N content, a transformation from diopside to augite occurred and the crystallinity of the pyroxene phases slightly decreased. Initially, the aver- age pore size and porosity of the foam glass-ceramics increased and subsequently decreased; similarly, their bulk density and compressive strength decreased and subsequently increased. The optimal properties were obtained when the foam glass-ceramics were prepared by adding 4wt% AIN.

Hepatoid Carcinoma of the Pancreas:a Case Report

Case Report A 37-year old female patient suffering from an upper abdominal pain,accompanied by recent emaciation and anorexia that resulted from a two-month epigastric lump,visited a doctor in our hospital in January,2007.Physical examination of the patient by palpation identified a 10.0×8.0 cm2 lump from the xiphoid process above the middle and superior abdomen.The lesion was hard with a rough surface,the upper boundary unsharp,and the inferior and right boundary clearly apparent.The pain at the site of the lump was only apparent with touching at that site.

Emergy Analysis of Sustainability of Eco-economic System in Sichuan's Baisha River Valley

Using emergy analysis method,I conduct quantitative analysis of social,economic and natural systems in Sichuan's Baisha River valley during the period 2002-2006,through the establishment of indicators.I compare the emergy of Baisha River valley,with that of Xinjiang's Manas River valley and Sichuan Province,and evaluate the sustainable development conditions in Baisha River valley,in order to provide corresponding reference for the development and utilization of Baisha River valley in the future.The results show that from the perspective of emergy input of economic system,Baisha River valley is a typical ecological and economic zone with rich resources to be developed;in terms of the development of natural conditions and utilization of ecological resources,the resource utilization intensity of Baisha River valley is weak and the environmental loading ratio there is low,thus the level of emergy yield needs to be improved;the system of Baisha River valley has enormous capacity for sustainable development and good potential for development.

Clinical Study on Application of Chinese Herbs during the Perioperative Period of Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy

Objective： To explore the effect of Chinese herbs during the perioperative period of laparoscopic cholecystectomy （LC）. Methods： Three hundred and sixty patients of chronic lithic cholecystitis （LOOT） were randomly assigned to two groups by lottery, 180 patients in each group. During the peri-operative period, the control group was treated with conventional Western medicine and placebo. The treated group was given the same conventional Western medicine and Chinese herbal decoctions, with Shitong mixture No. 1 （石通1号） added before LC, and Liujunzi decoction （六君子汤） added after LC for three days. The operation time, body temperature after LC, white blood cell count, wind-breaking time after operation, as well as the changes of tongue coating in the first three post-operative days were recorded. Results： There was no significant difference between the two groups in operation time （P〉0.05）, while the improvement in body temperature recovery, windbreaking time and changes of tongue coating in the treated group were better than those in the control group （P〈0.01）. Conclusion： Applying Chinese herbs during perioperative period of LC could effectively benefit early recovery in such patients.
